⁶ And ^(A)he believed the Lord, and ^(B)he counted it to him as righteousness.

²³ and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, ^(A)“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a ^(B)friend of God.

⁶ just as ^(A)Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

⁷ Know then that it is ^(B)those of faith who are ^(C)the sons of Abraham. ⁸ And the Scripture, foreseeing that ^(D)God would justify^[a] the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, ^(E)“In you shall all the nations be blessed.” ⁹ So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

¹⁰ For all who rely on works of the law are ^(F)under a curse; for it is written, ^(G)“Cursed be everyone who does not ^(H)abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” ¹¹ Now it is evident that ^(I)no one is justified before God by the law, for ^(J)“The righteous shall live by faith.”^{[b] 12} But the law is not of faith, rather ^(K)“The one who does them shall live by them.” ¹³ Christ ^(L)redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ^(M)“Cursed is everyone who is hanged ^(N)on a tree”— ¹⁴ so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might ^(O)come to the Gentiles, so that ^(P)we might receive ^(Q)the promised Spirit^[c] through faith.

⁹ Is this blessing then only for ^(A)the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? ^(B)For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness.

²⁰ No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, ²¹ fully convinced that ^(A)God was able to do what he had promised. ²² That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” ²³ But ^(B)the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, ²⁴ but for ours also. It will be counted to us ^(C)who believe in ^(D)him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, ^25 (E)who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised ^(F)for our justification.

³ For what does the Scripture say? ^(A)“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” ⁴ Now ^(B)to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. ⁵ And to the one who does not work but ^(C)believes in^[a] him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, ⁶ just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

⁸ By faith ^(A)Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place ^(B)that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

^11 (A)He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was ^(B)to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well,
