⁴ And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who ^(A)will come from your own body shall be your heir.”

²⁸ Now ^(A)we, brethren, as Isaac was, are ^(B)children of promise.

¹⁶ And I will bless her ^(A)and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother ^(B)of nations; ^(C)kings of peoples shall be from her.”

¹² I am sending him ^[a]back. You therefore receive him, that is, my own ^[b]heart,

^21 (A)Then the Lord sent an angel who cut down every mighty man of valor, leader, and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned ^(B)shamefaced to his own land. And when he had gone into the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down with the sword there.

¹¹ And David said to Abishai and all his servants, “See how ^(A)my son who ^(B)came from my own body seeks my life. How much more now may this Benjamite? Let him alone, and let him curse; for so the Lord has ordered him.

^12 (A)“When your days are fulfilled and you ^(B)rest with your fathers, ^(C)I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

¹² But God said to Abraham, “Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for ^(A)in Isaac your seed shall be called.
