¹² As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him.^(A)

²¹ So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.^(A)

⁸ So I was left alone to see this great vision. My strength left me, and my complexion grew deathly pale, and I retained no strength.^{(A) 9} When^[a] I heard the sound of his words, I fell into a trance, face to the ground.^(B)

⁸ Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing;^[a] so they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. ⁹ For three days he was without sight and neither ate nor drank.

¹² So David took the spear that was at Saul’s head and the water jar, and they went away. No one saw it or knew it, nor did anyone awake, for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen upon them.^(A)

⁹ A young man named Eutychus, who was sitting in the window, began to sink off into a deep sleep while Paul talked still longer. Overcome by sleep, he fell to the ground three floors below and was picked up dead.
