¹² As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep,^(A) and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him.

²¹ So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep;^(A) and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs^[a] and then closed up the place with flesh.

⁸ So I was left alone,^(A) gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left,^(B) my face turned deathly pale^(C) and I was helpless.^{(D) 9} Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.^(E)

⁸ Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing.^(A) So they led him by the hand into Damascus. ⁹ For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.

¹² So David took the spear and water jug near Saul’s head, and they left. No one saw or knew about it, nor did anyone wake up. They were all sleeping, because the Lord had put them into a deep sleep.^(A)

⁹ Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead.
