⁸ Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah,^(A) the king of Admah, the king of Zeboyim^(B) and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar)^(C) marched out and drew up their battle lines in the Valley of Siddim^(D)

²² But flee there quickly, because I cannot do anything until you reach it.” (That is why the town was called Zoar.^[a](A))

²⁰ Look, here is a town near enough to run to, and it is small. Let me flee to it—it is very small, isn’t it? Then my life will be spared.”

¹⁰ Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain^(A) of the Jordan toward Zoar^(B) was well watered, like the garden of the Lord,^(C) like the land of Egypt.^(D) (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom^(E) and Gomorrah.)^(F)

¹⁰ Now the Valley of Siddim^(A) was full of tar^(B) pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah^(C) fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.^(D)

² these kings went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim,^(A) and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).^{(B) 3} All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim^(C) (that is, the Dead Sea Valley^(D)).
