²⁴ I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me—to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre.^(A) Let them have their share.”

¹² So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you,^(A) for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.^(B)

¹³ A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew.^(A) Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre^(B) the Amorite, a brother^[a] of Eshkol^(C) and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram.

¹⁸ For Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,”^[a](A) and “The worker deserves his wages.”^[b](B)

¹⁴ In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.^(A)

¹⁵ But I have not used any of these rights.^(B) And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.^(C)

⁷ Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes;^(A) if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

Love Fulfills the Law

⁸ Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.^(B)
