And Abram gave him ^(A)a tenth of everything.

²² and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, ^(A)shall be God's house. And ^(B)of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.”

^12 (A)I fast twice a week; ^(B)I give tithes of all that I get.’

^10 (A)Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby ^(B)put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open ^(C)the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

²⁷ and said, “Blessed be the Lord, ^(A)the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken ^(B)his steadfast love and his faithfulness toward my master. As for me, the Lord ^(C)has led me in the way to the house of my master's kinsmen.”

²⁶ He also said,

Born Again to a Living Hope

^3 (A)Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! ^(B)According to his great mercy, ^(C)he has caused us to be born again to a living hope ^(D)through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ to ^(E)an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and ^(F)unfading, ^(G)kept in heaven for you,

⁴ See how great this man was to whom Abraham ^(A)the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils! ⁵ And ^(B)those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take tithes from the people, that is, from their brothers,^[a] though these also are descended from Abraham. ⁶ But this man ^(C)who does not have his descent from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed ^(D)him who had the promises. ⁷ It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. ⁸ In the one case tithes are received by mortal men, but in the other case, by one ^(E)of whom it is testified that ^(F)he lives. ⁹ One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham,
