¹⁷ After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer^(A) and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom^(B) came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).^(C)

¹⁸ During his lifetime Absalom had taken a pillar and erected it in the King’s Valley^(A) as a monument^(B) to himself, for he thought, “I have no son^(C) to carry on the memory of my name.” He named the pillar after himself, and it is called Absalom’s Monument to this day.

Melchizedek the Priest

7 This Melchizedek was king of Salem^(A) and priest of God Most High.^(B) He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him,^(C)

⁶ When the men were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing,^(A) with joyful songs and with timbrels^(B) and lyres.

³⁴ When Jephthah returned to his home in Mizpah, who should come out to meet him but his daughter, dancing^(A) to the sound of timbrels!^(B) She was an only child.^(C) Except for her he had neither son nor daughter.
