^16 (A)I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted.

¹⁴ Your offspring shall be like ^(A)the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and ^(B)your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

¹² But ^(A)you said, ‘I will surely do you good, and make your offspring as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.’”

¹⁶ That is why it depends on faith, ^(A)in order that the promise may rest on grace and ^(B)be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, ^(C)who is the father of us all, ¹⁷ as it is written, ^(D)“I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, ^(E)who gives life to the dead and calls into existence ^(F)the things that do not exist. ¹⁸ In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, ^(G)“So shall your offspring be.”

^8 (A)And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, ^(B)too many to be numbered or counted for multitude.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you ^(A)swore by your own self, and said to them, ^(B)‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’”

¹⁷ I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring ^(A)as the stars of heaven and ^(B)as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess ^(C)the gate of his^[a] enemies,

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and ^(A)number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, ^(B)“So shall your offspring be.”
