Abram and Lot Separate

13 So Abram went up from Egypt^(A) to the Negev,^(B) with his wife and everything he had, and Lot^(C) went with him.

⁴⁰ So Joshua subdued the whole region, including the hill country, the Negev,^(A) the western foothills and the mountain slopes,^(B) together with all their kings.^(C) He left no survivors. He totally destroyed all who breathed, just as the Lord, the God of Israel, had commanded.^(D)

⁹ Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.^(A)

Abram in Egypt^(B)

¹⁰ Now there was a famine in the land,^(C) and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe.^{(D) 11} As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai,^(E) “I know what a beautiful woman^(F) you are. ¹² When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. ¹³ Say you are my sister,^(G) so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.”

¹⁴ When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that Sarai was a very beautiful woman.^{(H) 15} And when Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace. ¹⁶ He treated Abram well for her sake, and Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.^(I)

¹⁷ But the Lord inflicted^(J) serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household^(K) because of Abram’s wife Sarai. ¹⁸ So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?”^(L) he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?^{(M) 19} Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’^(N) so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!” ²⁰ Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.

⁷ Then they went toward the fortress of Tyre^(A) and all the towns of the Hivites^(B) and Canaanites. Finally, they went on to Beersheba^(C) in the Negev^(D) of Judah.

¹⁰ When Achish asked, “Where did you go raiding today?” David would say, “Against the Negev of Judah” or “Against the Negev of Jerahmeel^(A)” or “Against the Negev of the Kenites.^(B)”

⁵ You are to divide the land into seven parts. Judah is to remain in its territory on the south^(A) and the tribes of Joseph in their territory on the north.^(B)

³³ Abraham planted a tamarisk tree^(A) in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the Lord,^(B) the Eternal God.^(C)

20 Now Abraham moved on from there^(B) into the region of the Negev^(C) and lived between Kadesh^(D) and Shur.^(E) For a while^(F) he stayed in Gerar,^(G)
