New International Version
7 Utterly amazed,(A) they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?(B) 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia,(C) Pontus(D) and Asia,[a](E) 10 Phrygia(F) and Pamphylia,(G) Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene;(H) visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”(I)
Peter Addresses the Crowd
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!(J) 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.(K)
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,(L)
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.(M)
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,(N)
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood(O)
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord(P) will be saved.’[b](Q)
Romans 5:13-21
New International Version
13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.(A) 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam,(B) who is a pattern of the one to come.(C)
15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man,(D) how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ,(E) overflow to the many! 16 Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death(F) reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life(G) through the one man, Jesus Christ!
18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people,(H) so also one righteous act resulted in justification(I) and life(J) for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man(K) the many were made sinners,(L) so also through the obedience(M) of the one man the many will be made righteous.
20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase.(N) But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,(O) 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death,(P) so also grace(Q) might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life(R) through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ingrafted Branches
11 Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all!(A) Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles(B) to make Israel envious.(C) 12 But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles,(D) how much greater riches will their full inclusion bring!
13 I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles,(E) I take pride in my ministry 14 in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy(F) and save(G) some of them. 15 For if their rejection brought reconciliation(H) to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?(I) 16 If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits(J) is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches.
17 If some of the branches have been broken off,(K) and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others(L) and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, 18 do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.(M) 19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith.(N) Do not be arrogant,(O) but tremble.(P) 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
22 Consider therefore the kindness(Q) and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue(R) in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.(S) 23 And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.(T) 24 After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree,(U) how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!
All Israel Will Be Saved
25 I do not want you to be ignorant(V) of this mystery,(W) brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited:(X) Israel has experienced a hardening(Y) in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,(Z) 26 and in this way[a] all Israel will be saved.(AA) As it is written:
“The deliverer will come from Zion;
he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
27 And this is[b] my covenant with them
when I take away their sins.”[c](AB)
28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies(AC) for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs,(AD) 29 for God’s gifts and his call(AE) are irrevocable.(AF) 30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient(AG) to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now[d] receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you. 32 For God has bound everyone over to disobedience(AH) so that he may have mercy on them all.

New International Version
8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”[a](A) 9 So those who rely on faith(B) are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.(C)
