¹⁷ But the Lord inflicted^(A) serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household^(B) because of Abram’s wife Sarai. ¹⁸ So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?”^(C) he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?^{(D) 19} Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’^(E) so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!” ²⁰ Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.

⁷ Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet,^(A) and he will pray for you^(B) and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all who belong to you will die.”^(C)

¹⁰ Then Abimelek said, “What is this you have done to us?^(A) One of the men might well have slept with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.”

¹¹ So Abimelek gave orders to all the people: “Anyone who harms^(B) this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.”^(C)
