^13 (A)Please say you are my ^(B)sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that ^[a]I may live because of you.”

⁷ And the men of the place asked about his wife. And ^(A)he said, “She is my sister”; for ^(B)he was afraid to say, “She is my wife,” because he thought, “lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, because she is ^(C)beautiful to behold.”

⁵ Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ ^(A)In the ^[a]integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this.”

² Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, ^(A)“She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and ^(B)took Sarah.

¹² But indeed ^(A)she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. ¹³ And it came to pass, when ^(B)God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said to her, ‘This is your kindness that you should do for me: in every place, wherever we go, ^(C)say of me, “He is my brother.” ’ ”

²³ For ^(A)the wages of sin is death, but ^(B)the ^[a]gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁶ Certainly not! For then ^(A)how will God judge the world?

⁷ For if the truth of God has increased through my lie to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? ⁸ And why not say, ^(B)“Let us do evil that good may come”?—as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their ^[a]condemnation is just.

^44 (A)You are of your father the devil, and the ^(B)desires of your father you want to ^(C)do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and ^(D)does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

Peter Denies Jesus, and Weeps Bitterly^(A)

^69 (B)Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came to him, saying, “You also were with Jesus of Galilee.”

⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are saying.”

⁷¹ And when he had gone out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to those who were there, “This fellow also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

⁷² But again he denied with an oath, “I do not know the Man!”

⁷³ And a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter, “Surely you also are one of them, for your ^(C)speech betrays you.”

⁷⁴ Then ^(D)he began to ^[a]curse and ^[b]swear, saying, “I do not know the Man!”

Immediately a rooster crowed. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, ^(E)“Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly.
