²² The descendants of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.^(A)

¹⁹ and I will set a sign among them. From them I will send survivors to the nations, to Tarshish, Put,^[a] and Lud, to Meshech,^[b] Tubal, and Javan, to the coastlands far away that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory, and they shall declare my glory among the nations.^(A)

⁹ Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

Judgment on Elam

³⁴ The word of the Lord that came to the prophet Jeremiah concerning Elam, at the beginning of the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah.^(A)

³⁵ Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am going to break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might,^{(B) 36} and I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and I will scatter them to all these winds, and there shall be no nation to which the exiles from Elam shall not come.^{(C) 37} I will terrify Elam before their enemies and before those who seek their life; I will bring disaster upon them, my fierce anger, says the Lord. I will send the sword after them until I have consumed them,^{(D) 38} and I will set my throne in Elam and destroy their king and officials, says the Lord.

³⁹ But in the latter days I will restore the fortunes of Elam, says the Lord.

²⁵ all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;

¹¹ On that day the Lord will again raise^[a] his hand to recover the remnant that is left of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.^(A)

¹⁷ While he was still speaking, another came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three columns, made a raid on the camels and carried them off, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; I alone have escaped to tell you.”^(A)

¹⁷ The descendants of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. The sons of Aram:^[a] Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.^{(A) 18} Arpachshad became the father of Shelah, and Shelah became the father of Eber. ¹⁹ To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg (for in his days the earth was divided), and the name of his brother was Joktan. ²⁰ Joktan became the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²¹ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²² Ebal, Abimael, Sheba, ²³ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the descendants of Joktan.
