Origine d’Edom
36 Voici la lignée d'Esaü, c’est-à-dire Edom. 2 Esaü avait épousé des femmes cananéennes: Ada, fille d'Elon le Hittite, et Oholibama, fille d'Ana et petite-fille de Tsibeon le Hévien, 3 ainsi que Basmath, fille d'Ismaël et sœur de Nebajoth. 4 Ada donna à Esaü Eliphaz, et Basmath Réuel. 5 Quant à Oholibama, elle donna naissance à Jéush, Jaelam et Koré. Voilà quels sont les fils d'Esaü, ceux qu’il eut dans le pays de Canaan.
6 Esaü prit ses femmes, ses fils et ses filles, tous les membres de sa famille, ses troupeaux, tout son bétail, tout ce qui lui appartenait et dont il était devenu propriétaire dans le pays de Canaan, et il s'en alla dans un autre pays, loin de son frère Jacob. 7 En effet, leurs biens étaient trop nombreux pour qu'ils habitent ensemble et la région où ils séjournaient ne suffisait plus pour eux à cause de leurs troupeaux. 8 Esaü s’installa dans la région montagneuse de Séir. Esaü, c'est Edom.
9 Voici la lignée d'Esaü, l’ancêtre des Edomites, dans la région montagneuse de Séir. 10 Voici les noms des fils d'Esaü: Eliphaz, fils d'Ada, la femme d'Esaü; Réuel, fils de Basmath, la femme d'Esaü.
11 Les fils d'Eliphaz furent Théman, Omar, Tsepho, Gaetham et Kenaz. 12 Thimna était la concubine d'Eliphaz, le fils d'Esaü; elle donna à Eliphaz Amalek. Voilà quels sont les descendants d'Ada, la femme d'Esaü.
13 Voici les fils de Réuel: Nahath, Zérach, Shamma et Mizza. Voilà quels sont les descendants de Basmath, la femme d'Esaü.
14 Voici les fils d'Oholibama, fille d'Ana et petite-fille de Tsibeon, femme d'Esaü: elle donna à Esaü Jéush, Jaelam et Koré.
15 Voici les chefs des descendants d'Esaü. Voici les fils d'Eliphaz, le fils aîné d'Esaü: les chefs Théman, Omar, Tsepho, Kenaz, 16 Koré, Gaetham et Amalek. Voilà quels sont les chefs issus d'Eliphaz dans le pays d'Edom. Ce sont les descendants d'Ada. 17 Voici les fils de Réuel, le fils d'Esaü: les chefs Nahath, Zérach, Shamma et Mizza. Voilà quels sont les chefs issus de Réuel dans le pays d'Edom. Voilà quels sont les descendants de Basmath, la femme d'Esaü. 18 Voici les fils d'Oholibama, la femme d'Esaü: les chefs Jéush, Jaelam et Koré. Voilà quels sont les chefs issus d'Oholibama, fille d'Ana et femme d'Esaü. 19 Voilà quels sont les descendants d'Esaü et voilà quels sont leurs chefs. Voilà pour Edom.
20 Voici les fils de Séir le Horien qui étaient les premiers habitants du pays: Lothan, Shobal, Tsibeon, Ana, 21 Dishon, Etser et Dishan. Voilà quels sont les chefs des Horiens et les fils de Séir dans le pays d'Edom. 22 Les fils de Lothan furent Hori et Hémam. La sœur de Lothan fut Thimna. 23 Voici les fils de Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho et Onam. 24 Voici les fils de Tsibeon: Ajja et Ana. C'est cet Ana-là qui découvrit les sources d’eau chaude dans le désert alors qu'il prenait soin des ânes de son père Tsibeon. 25 Voici les enfants d'Ana: Dishon et sa fille Oholibama. 26 Voici les fils de Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Jithran et Keran. 27 Voici les fils d'Etser: Bilhan, Zaavan et Akan. 28 Voici les fils de Dishan: Uts et Aran.
29 Voici les chefs des Horiens: Lothan, Shobal, Tsibeon, Ana, 30 Dishon, Etser et Dishan. Voilà quels sont les chefs des Horiens, les chefs qu'ils eurent dans le pays de Séir.
31 Voici les rois qui ont régné sur le pays d'Edom avant que les Israélites n’aient un roi. 32 Béla, fils de Beor, régna sur Edom; le nom de sa ville était Dinhaba. 33 Béla mourut et Jobab, fils de Zérach, de Botsra, devint roi à sa place. 34 Jobab mourut et Husham, du pays des Thémanites, devint roi à sa place. 35 Husham mourut et Hadad, fils de Bedad, devint roi à sa place. C'est lui qui battit les Madianites dans la campagne de Moab. Le nom de sa ville était Avith. 36 Hadad mourut et Samla, de Masréka, devint roi à sa place. 37 Samla mourut et Saül, de Rehoboth-Nahar, devint roi à sa place. 38 Saül mourut et Baal-Hanan, fils d'Acbor, devint roi à sa place. 39 Baal-Hanan, fils d'Acbor, mourut et Hadad devint roi à sa place. Le nom de sa ville était Pau, et celui de sa femme Mehéthabeel. Elle était la fille de Mathred et la petite-fille de Mézahab.
40 Voici les noms des chefs issus d'Esaü, d’après leurs clans, leurs territoires et leurs noms: Thimna, Alva, Jetheth, 41 Oholibama, Ela, Pinon, 42 Kenaz, Théman, Mibtsar, 43 Magdiel et Iram. Voilà quels sont les chefs d'Edom d’après leur lieu d’habitation dans le pays qu'ils possédaient.

Esaus Nachkommen
36 Es folgt der Stammbaum von Esau, der auch Edom genannt wurde:
2-3 Er hatte drei Frauen aus Kanaan geheiratet: Ada, eine Tochter des Hetiters Elon; Oholibama, eine Tochter Anas und Enkelin des Horiters Zibon, und Basemat, eine Tochter Ismaels und Schwester Nebajots. 4 Von Ada hatte er einen Sohn mit Namen Elifas; von Basemat stammte Reguël, 5 und mit Oholibama zeugte er Jëusch, Jalam und Korach. Alle wurden im Land Kanaan geboren.
6 Später verließ Esau das Land. Seine Frauen, Kinder und alle, die zu ihm gehörten, nahm er mit; dazu seine Viehherden und den Besitz, den er in Kanaan erworben hatte. Er zog in das Land Seïr, fort von seinem Bruder Jakob. 7 Sie besaßen beide so große Viehherden, dass es im Land Kanaan nicht genug Weidefläche für sie gab. 8 Deshalb ließ sich Esau, der Stammvater der Edomiter, im Bergland Seïr nieder.
9 Dies ist die Liste der Nachkommen von Esau; es sind die Edomiter, die im Land Seïr leben. 10 Die Söhne Esaus: Von seinen beiden Frauen Ada und Basemat hatte Esau je einen Sohn; Ada brachte Elifas zur Welt und Basemat Reguël. 11 Elifas’ Söhne waren Teman, Omar, Zefo, Gatam, Kenas 12 und Amalek. Amalek war der Sohn von Elifas’ Nebenfrau Timna. 13 Reguël hatte vier Söhne: Nahat, Serach, Schamma und Misa. 14 Oholibama, die Tochter Anas und Enkelin Zibons, bekam drei Söhne: Jëusch, Jalam und Korach.
15-16 Esaus Söhne wurden zu Oberhäuptern verschiedener Stämme. Von Esaus ältestem Sohn Elifas stammen die Fürsten Teman, Omar, Zefo, Kenas, Korach, Gatam und Amalek. Sie gehen auf Esaus Frau Ada zurück. 17 Von Esaus Sohn Reguël stammen die Fürsten Nahat, Serach, Schamma und Misa. Sie gehen auf Esaus Frau Basemat zurück. 18 Von Esaus Frau Oholibama stammen die Fürsten Jëusch, Jalam und Korach. 19 Diese Fürsten sind Nachkommen Esaus und bilden das Volk der Edomiter.
Seïrs Nachkommen
20-21 Die Einwohner im Land Edom gehen auf den Horiter Seïr zurück. Seine Söhne waren Lotan, Schobal, Zibon, Ana, Dischon, Ezer und Dischan. Sie waren die Oberhäupter von den verschiedenen Stämmen der Horiter.
22 Lotans Söhne hießen Hori und Hemam, seine Schwester hieß Timna. 23 Schobals Söhne waren Alwan, Manahat, Ebal, Schefi und Onam. 24 Zibons Söhne waren Ajja und Ana. Ana fand eine heiße Quelle in der Wüste, als er dort die Esel seines Vaters Zibon weidete. 25 Ana hatte einen Sohn namens Dischon und eine Tochter mit Namen Oholibama. 26 Dischons Söhne hießen Hemdan, Eschban, Jitran und Keran. 27 Ezers Söhne waren Bilhan, Saawan und Akan. 28 Dischans Söhne hießen Uz und Aran.
29-30 Aus diesen entstanden die Stämme der Horiter, denen die Stammesfürsten Lotan, Schobal, Zibon, Ana, Dischon, Ezer und Dischan als Oberhäupter vorstanden.
Könige und Oberhäupter der Edomiter
31 Noch bevor die Israeliten einen König hatten, regierten im Land Edom nacheinander folgende Könige:
32 König Bela, der Sohn von Beor, in der Stadt Dinhaba;
33 König Jobab, der Sohn von Serach, aus Bozra;
34 König Huscham aus dem Gebiet der Temaniter;
35 König Hadad, der Sohn von Bedad, in der Stadt Awit; sein Heer schlug die Midianiter im Gebiet von Moab;
36 König Samla aus Masreka;
37 König Schaul aus Rehobot am Fluss;
38 König Baal-Hanan, der Sohn von Achbor;
39 König Hadad in der Stadt Pagu; seine Frau hieß Mehetabel, sie war eine Tochter von Matred und Enkelin von Me-Sahab.
40-43 Folgende Oberhäupter der Edomiter stammen von Esau ab: Timna, Alwa, Jetet, Oholibama, Ela, Pinon, Kenas, Teman, Mibzar, Magdiël und Iram. Nach ihnen werden die verschiedenen Stämme und ihre Gebiete benannt.

36 This is the account(C) of the family line of Esau (that is, Edom).(D)
2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan:(E) Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite,(F) and Oholibamah(G) daughter of Anah(H) and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite(I)— 3 also Basemath(J) daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.(K)
4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel,(L) 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah.(M) These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan.
6 Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan,(N) and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob.(O) 7 Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock.(P) 8 So Esau(Q) (that is, Edom)(R) settled in the hill country of Seir.(S)
9 This is the account(T) of the family line of Esau the father of the Edomites(U) in the hill country of Seir.
10 These are the names of Esau’s sons:
Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.(V)
11 The sons of Eliphaz:(W)
Teman,(X) Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz.(Y)
12 Esau’s son Eliphaz also had a concubine(Z) named Timna, who bore him Amalek.(AA) These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Adah.(AB)
13 The sons of Reuel:
Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.(AC)
14 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah(AD) daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she bore to Esau:
Jeush, Jalam and Korah.(AE)
15 These were the chiefs(AF) among Esau’s descendants:
The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau:
Chiefs Teman,(AG) Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,(AH) 16 Korah,[a] Gatam and Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from Eliphaz(AI) in Edom;(AJ) they were grandsons of Adah.(AK)
17 The sons of Esau’s son Reuel:(AL)
Chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in Edom; they were grandsons of Esau’s wife Basemath.(AM)
18 The sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah:(AN)
Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah.(AO) These were the chiefs descended from Esau’s wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah.
19 These were the sons of Esau(AP) (that is, Edom),(AQ) and these were their chiefs.(AR)
20 These were the sons of Seir the Horite,(AS) who were living in the region:
Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,(AT) 21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs.(AU)
22 The sons of Lotan:
Hori and Homam.[b] Timna was Lotan’s sister.
23 The sons of Shobal:
Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.
24 The sons of Zibeon:(AV)
Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who discovered the hot springs[c](AW) in the desert while he was grazing the donkeys(AX) of his father Zibeon.
25 The children of Anah:(AY)
Dishon and Oholibamah(AZ) daughter of Anah.
26 The sons of Dishon[d]:
Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran.
27 The sons of Ezer:
Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan.
28 The sons of Dishan:
Uz and Aran.
29 These were the Horite chiefs:
Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,(BA) 30 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs,(BB) according to their divisions, in the land of Seir.
The Rulers of Edom(BC)
31 These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king(BD) reigned:
32 Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city was named Dinhabah.
33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah(BE) succeeded him as king.
34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites(BF) succeeded him as king.
35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian(BG) in the country of Moab,(BH) succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith.
36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.
37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth(BI) on the river succeeded him as king.
38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king.
39 When Baal-Hanan son of Akbor died, Hadad[e] succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab.
40 These were the chiefs(BJ) descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions:
Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied.
This is the family line of Esau, the father of the Edomites.(BK)
