²¹ He dwelt in the Wilderness of Paran; and his mother ^(A)took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.

^38 (A)So then he who gives ^[a]her in marriage does well, but he who does not give her in marriage does better.

Death of Samuel

25 Then ^(A)Samuel died; and the Israelites gathered together and ^(B)lamented for him, and buried him at his home in Ramah. And David arose and went down ^(C)to the Wilderness of ^[a]Paran.

² So he went up and told his father and mother, saying, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, ^(A)get her for me as a wife.”

²⁶ Now they departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at ^(A)Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

³ So Moses sent them ^(A)from the Wilderness of Paran according to the command of the Lord, all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.

¹⁶ And afterward the people moved from ^(A)Hazeroth and camped in the Wilderness of Paran.

¹² And the children of Israel set out from the ^(A)Wilderness of Sinai on ^(B)their journeys; then the cloud settled down in the ^(C)Wilderness of Paran.

⁴⁶ And Rebekah said to Isaac, ^(A)“I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; ^(B)if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these who are the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?”

Jacob Sent to His Uncle Laban

28 Then Isaac called Jacob and ^(C)blessed him, and ^[a]charged him, and said to him: ^(D)“You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. ^2 (E)Arise, go to ^(F)Padan Aram, to the house of ^(G)Bethuel your mother’s father; and take yourself a wife from there of the daughters of ^(H)Laban your mother’s brother.
