Works versus the Spirit
3 You irrational Galatians! Who put a spell on you? Jesus Christ was put on display as crucified before your eyes! 2 I just want to know this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by doing the works of the Law or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so irrational? After you started with the Spirit, are you now finishing up with your own human effort? 4 Did you experience so much for nothing? I wonder if it really was for nothing. 5 So does the one providing you with the Spirit and working miracles among you do this by you doing the works of the Law or by you believing what you heard?
Abraham: an example of righteousness
6 Understand that in the same way that Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness,[a] 7 those who believe are the children of Abraham. 8 But when it saw ahead of time that God would make the Gentiles righteous on the basis of faith, scripture preached the gospel in advance to Abraham: All the Gentiles will be blessed in you.[b] 9 Therefore, those who believe are blessed together with Abraham who believed.
10 All those who rely on the works of the Law are under a curse, because it is written, Everyone is cursed who does not keep on doing all the things that have been written in the Law scroll.[c] 11 But since no one is made righteous by the Law as far as God is concerned, it is clear that the righteous one will live on the basis of faith.[d] 12 The Law isn’t based on faith; rather, the one doing these things will live by them.[e] 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us—because it is written, Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed.[f] 14 He redeemed us so that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, and that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15 Brothers and sisters, I’ll use an example from human experience. No one ignores or makes additions to a validated will. 16 The promises were made to Abraham and to his descendant. It doesn’t say, “and to the descendants,” as if referring to many rather than just one. It says, “and to your descendant,” who is Christ. 17 I’m saying this: the Law, which came four hundred thirty years later, doesn’t invalidate the agreement that was previously validated by God so that it cancels the promise. 18 If the inheritance were based upon the Law, it would no longer be from the promise. But God has given it graciously to Abraham through a promise.
The Law’s origin and purpose
19 So why was the Law given? It was added because of offenses, until the descendant would come to whom the promise had been made. It was put in place through angels by the hand of a mediator. 20 Now the mediator does not take one side; but God is one. 21 So, is the Law against the promises of God? Absolutely not! If a Law had been given that was able to give life, then righteousness would in fact have come from the Law. 22 But scripture locked up all things under sin, so that the promise based on the faithfulness of Jesus Christ might be given to those who have faith. 23 Before faith came, we were guarded under the Law, locked up until faith that was coming would be revealed, 24 so that the Law became our custodian until Christ so that we might be made righteous by faith.
God’s children are heirs in Christ
25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian.
26 You are all God’s children through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 All of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free; nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 Now if you belong to Christ, then indeed you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.

3 O mangmang na mga taga-Galacia, sino ang bumighani sa inyo upang huwag ninyong sundin ang katotohanan? Malinaw naming ipinaliwanag sa inyo ang patungkol kay Jesucristo na ang mga tao ang nagpako sa kaniya.
2 Ito lamang ang ibig kong malaman mula sa inyo: Tinanggap ba ninyo ang Espiritu sa pamamagitan ng mga gawa ng kautusan, o sa pamamagitan ng pakikinig na may pananampalataya? 3 Ganyan ba kayo kamangmang?Kayo ay nagsimula sa pamamagitan ng Espiritu. Kayo ba ngayon ay ginawang ganap sa pamamagitan ng gawa ng tao? 4 Kayo ba ay naghirap sa maraming bagay para lang sa walang kabuluhan, kung ito nga ay walang kabuluhan? 5 Ibinibigay ng Diyos sa inyo ang kaniyang Espiritu at gumagawa ng mga himala sa inyong kalagitnaan. Kaya nga, ginawa ba niya ito sa pamamagitan ng mga gawa ng kautusan o sa pamamagitan ng pakikinig na may pananampalataya?
6 Sa ganito ring paraan, si Abraham
ay sumampalataya sa Diyos at iyon ay ibinilang sa kaniya na katuwiran.
7 Kaya nga, alamin ninyo na ang mga anak ni Abraham ay mga sumasampalataya. 8 Nakita na nang una pa sa kasulatan na pinapaging-matuwid ng Diyos ang mga Gentil sa pamamagitan ng pananampalataya. Noon pa ay ipinahayag na ng kasulatan ang ebanghelyo kay Abraham:
Pagpapalain ng Diyos ang lahat ng bansa sa pamamagitan mo.
9 Ito ay upang ang may pananampalataya ay pinagpapalang kasama ni Abraham na sumampalataya.
10 Ito ay sapagkat ang lahat ng nasa ilalim ng kautusan ay nasa ilalim ng sumpa, dahil nasusulat:
Sinumpa ang lahat ng mga hindi nagpapatuloy sa paggawa ng lahat ng mga bagay na nakasulat sa aklat ng kautusan.
11 Ngunit maliwanag na walang sinumang pinapaging-matuwid sa harap ng Diyos sa pamamagitan ng kautusan, sapagkat
ang matuwid ay mabubuhay sa pamamagitan ng pananampalataya.
12 Ngunit ang kautusan ay hindi sa pananampalataya. Subalit
ang taong gumaganap ng mga bagay na ito ay mabubuhay sa pamamagitan nito.
13 Nang si Cristo ay naging sumpa nang dahil sa atin, tinubos niya tayo mula sa sumpa ng kautusan sapagkat nasusulat:
Sumpain ang sinumang ibinibitin sa punong-kahoy.
14 Ito ay upang ang pagpapalang ibinigay ng Diyos kay Abraham ay dumating sa mga Gentil sa pamamagitan ni Cristo Jesus. Ito ay upang sa pamamagitan ng pananampalataya ay matanggap natin ang ipinangakong Espiritu.

19 Kaya nga, ano ang layunin ng kautusan? Ito ay idinagdag ng Diyos dahil sa pagsalansang, hanggang sa dumating ang binhi, na siyang binigyan ng pangako. Ang kautusan ay itinakda sa pamamagitan ng mga anghel sa kamay ng isang tagapamagitan. 20 Ang tagapamagitan ay hindi para sa isang panig lamang, ngunit ang Diyos ay iisa.
21 Kaya nga, kung magkagayon, ang kautusan ba ay laban sa mga pangakong ibinigay ng Diyos? Huwag nawang mangyari. Ito ay sapagkat kung maaring makapagkaloob ng isang kautusan na makakapagbigay ng buhay, tunay ngang ang pagpapaging-matuwid ay sa pamamagitan ng kautusan. 22 Subalit ang hangganang itinakda ng kasulatan ay, ang bawat isa ay nasa ilalim ng kasalanan upang ang pangako na dumating sa pamamagitan ng pananampalataya kay Jesucristo ay maibigay sa lahat ng mga nananampalataya.

27 Ito ay sapagkat lahat kayong binawtismuhan kay Cristo, ay ibinihis ninyo si Cristo. 28 Walang pagkakaiba sa Judio at sa Griyego. Walang alipin o malaya man. Walang lalaki o babae sapagkat iisa kayong lahat kay Cristo Jesus. 29 Yamang kayo ay kay Cristo, binhi kayo ni Abraham at mga tagapagmana ayon sa pangako.

Faith or Works of the Law
3 You foolish(A) Galatians!(B) Who has bewitched you?(C) Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.(D) 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit(E) by the works of the law,(F) or by believing what you heard?(G) 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?[a] 4 Have you experienced[b] so much in vain—if it really was in vain? 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles(H) among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?(I) 6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”[c](J)
7 Understand, then, that those who have faith(K) are children of Abraham.(L) 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”[d](M) 9 So those who rely on faith(N) are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.(O)
10 For all who rely on the works of the law(P) are under a curse,(Q) as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”[e](R) 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God,(S) because “the righteous will live by faith.”[f](T) 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.”[g](U) 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law(V) by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.”[h](W) 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus,(X) so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.(Y)
The Law and the Promise
15 Brothers and sisters,(Z) let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case. 16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed.(AA) Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,”[i](AB) meaning one person, who is Christ. 17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years(AC) later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. 18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise;(AD) but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.
19 Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions(AE) until the Seed(AF) to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels(AG) and entrusted to a mediator.(AH) 20 A mediator,(AI) however, implies more than one party; but God is one.
21 Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not!(AJ) For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.(AK) 22 But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin,(AL) so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.
Children of God
23 Before the coming of this faith,[j] we were held in custody(AM) under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed.(AN) 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came(AO) that we might be justified by faith.(AP) 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.(AQ)
26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God(AR) through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ(AS) have clothed yourselves with Christ.(AT) 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free,(AU) nor is there male and female,(AV) for you are all one in Christ Jesus.(AW) 29 If you belong to Christ,(AX) then you are Abraham’s seed,(AY) and heirs(AZ) according to the promise.(BA)

3 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.
5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
