2 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.
2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:
4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.
6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:
7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.
11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

2 Then after an interval of fourteen years I (A)went up again to Jerusalem with (B)Barnabas, taking (C)Titus along also. 2 [a]It was because of a (D)revelation that I went up; and I submitted to them the (E)gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but I did so in private to those who were of reputation, for fear that somehow I might be (F)running, or had run, in vain. 3 But not even (G)Titus, who was with me, though he was a Greek, was (H)compelled to be circumcised. 4 Yet it was a concern because of the (I)false brothers secretly brought in, who (J)had sneaked in to spy on our (K)freedom which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to (L)enslave us. 5 But we did not yield in subjection to them, even for an hour, so that (M)the truth of the gospel would remain with you. 6 But from those who [b]were of considerable (N)repute (what they were makes no difference to me; (O)God shows no favoritism)—well, those who were of repute contributed nothing to me. 7 But on the contrary, seeing that I had been (P)entrusted with the (Q)gospel [c]to the uncircumcised, just as (R)Peter had been [d]to the circumcised 8 (for He who was at work for Peter in his (S)apostleship [e]to the circumcised was at work for me also to the Gentiles), 9 and recognizing (T)the grace that had been given to me, [f](U)James and [g](V)Cephas and John, who were (W)reputed to be (X)pillars, gave to me and (Y)Barnabas the (Z)right [h]hand of fellowship, so that we might (AA)go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised. 10 They only asked us to remember the poor—(AB)the very thing I also was eager to do.

11 But when (AC)Cephas came to (AD)Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he [i]stood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of some men from [j](AE)James, he used to (AF)eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and separate himself, (AG)fearing those from the circumcision. 13 The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even (AH)Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they (AI)were not [k]straightforward about (AJ)the truth of the gospel, I said to (AK)Cephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, (AL)live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?[l]
15 “We are (AM)Jews by nature and not (AN)sinners from the Gentiles; 16 nevertheless, knowing that (AO)a person is not justified by works of [m]the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by (AP)faith in Christ and not by works of [n]the Law; since (AQ)by works of [o]the Law no [p]flesh will be justified. 17 But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found (AR)sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? [q](AS)Far from it! 18 For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I (AT)prove myself to be a wrongdoer. 19 For through [r]the Law I (AU)died to [s]the Law, so that I might live for God. 20 I have been (AV)crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but (AW)Christ lives in me; and [t]the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in (AX)the Son of God, who (AY)loved me and (AZ)gave Himself up for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for (BA)if righteousness comes through [u]the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”

Los apóstoles aceptan a Pablo
2 Catorce años después subí de nuevo a Jerusalén, esta vez con Bernabé, llevando también a Tito. 2 Obedeciendo a una revelación, fui y me reuní en privado con los que eran reconocidos como dirigentes, y les expliqué el evangelio que predico entre los gentiles, para que todo mi esfuerzo no fuera en vano.[a] 3 Ahora bien, ni siquiera Tito, que me acompañaba, fue obligado a circuncidarse, aunque era griego. 4 El problema era que algunos falsos hermanos se habían infiltrado entre nosotros para coartar la libertad que tenemos en Cristo Jesús a fin de esclavizarnos. 5 Ni por un momento accedimos a someternos a ellos, pues queríamos que se preservara entre vosotros la integridad del evangelio.
6 En cuanto a los que eran reconocidos como personas importantes —aunque no me interesa lo que fueran, porque Dios no juzga por las apariencias—, esos tales no me impusieron nada nuevo. 7 Al contrario, reconocieron que a mí se me había encomendado predicar el evangelio a los gentiles, de la misma manera que se le había encomendado a Pedro predicarlo a los judíos.[b] 8 El mismo Dios que facultó a Pedro como apóstol de los judíos[c] me facultó también a mí como apóstol de los gentiles. 9 En efecto, Jacobo, Pedro y Juan, que eran considerados columnas, al reconocer la gracia que yo había recibido, nos dieron la mano a Bernabé y a mí en señal de compañerismo, de modo que nosotros fuéramos a los gentiles y ellos a los judíos. 10 Solo nos pidieron que nos acordáramos de los pobres, y eso es precisamente lo que he venido haciendo con esmero.
Pablo se opone a Pedro
11 Pues bien, cuando Pedro fue a Antioquía, le eché en cara su comportamiento condenable. 12 Antes que llegaran algunos de parte de Jacobo, Pedro solía comer con los gentiles. Pero, cuando aquellos llegaron, comenzó a retraerse y a separarse de los gentiles por temor a los partidarios de la circuncisión.[d] 13 Entonces los demás judíos se unieron a Pedro en su hipocresía, y hasta el mismo Bernabé se dejó arrastrar por esa conducta hipócrita.
14 Cuando vi que no actuaban rectamente, como corresponde a la integridad del evangelio, le dije a Pedro delante de todos: «Si tú, que eres judío, vives como si no lo fueras, ¿por qué obligas a los gentiles a practicar el judaísmo?
15 »Nosotros somos judíos de nacimiento y no “pecadores paganos”. 16 Sin embargo, al reconocer que nadie es justificado por las obras que demanda la ley, sino por la fe en Jesucristo, también nosotros hemos puesto nuestra fe en Cristo Jesús, para ser justificados por la fe en él y no por las obras de la ley; porque por estas nadie será justificado.
17 »Ahora bien, cuando buscamos ser justificados por[e] Cristo, se hace evidente que nosotros mismos somos pecadores. ¿Quiere esto decir que Cristo está al servicio del pecado? ¡De ninguna manera! 18 Si uno vuelve a edificar lo que antes había destruido, se hace[f] transgresor. 19 Yo, por mi parte, mediante la ley he muerto a la ley, a fin de vivir para Dios. 20 He sido crucificado con Cristo, y ya no vivo yo, sino que Cristo vive en mí. Lo que ahora vivo en el cuerpo, lo vivo por la fe en el Hijo de Dios, quien me amó y dio su vida por mí. 21 No desecho la gracia de Dios. Si la justicia se obtuviera mediante la ley, Cristo habría muerto en vano».[g]
