¹⁰ All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor,^(A) the very thing I had been eager to do all along.

³⁹ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.^{(A) 40} And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. ⁴¹ If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. ⁴² Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.^(B)

Love for Enemies

⁴³ “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor^[a](C) and hate your enemy.’^{(D) 44} But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,^(E)

²⁵ Now, however, I am on my way to Jerusalem^(A) in the service^(B) of the Lord’s people^(C) there. ²⁶ For Macedonia^(D) and Achaia^(E) were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the Lord’s people in Jerusalem.^{(F) 27} They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings.^(G)

⁷ Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give,^(A) not reluctantly or under compulsion,^(B) for God loves a cheerful giver.^{(C) 8} And God is able^(D) to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need,^(E) you will abound in every good work. ⁹ As it is written:

¹⁶ And do not forget to do good and to share with others,^(A) for with such sacrifices^(B) God is pleased.
