The Apostles Accept Paul
2 Then fourteen years later I went back to Jerusalem again, this time with Barnabas; and Titus came along, too. 2 I went there because God revealed to me that I should go. While I was there I met privately with those considered to be leaders of the church and shared with them the message I had been preaching to the Gentiles. I wanted to make sure that we were in agreement, for fear that all my efforts had been wasted and I was running the race for nothing. 3 And they supported me and did not even demand that my companion Titus be circumcised, though he was a Gentile.[a]
4 Even that question came up only because of some so-called believers there—false ones, really[b]—who were secretly brought in. They sneaked in to spy on us and take away the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. They wanted to enslave us and force us to follow their Jewish regulations. 5 But we refused to give in to them for a single moment. We wanted to preserve the truth of the gospel message for you.
6 And the leaders of the church had nothing to add to what I was preaching. (By the way, their reputation as great leaders made no difference to me, for God has no favorites.) 7 Instead, they saw that God had given me the responsibility of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as he had given Peter the responsibility of preaching to the Jews. 8 For the same God who worked through Peter as the apostle to the Jews also worked through me as the apostle to the Gentiles.
9 In fact, James, Peter,[c] and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews. 10 Their only suggestion was that we keep on helping the poor, which I have always been eager to do.
Paul Confronts Peter
11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong. 12 When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile believers, who were not circumcised. But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn’t eat with the Gentiles anymore. He was afraid of criticism from these people who insisted on the necessity of circumcision. 13 As a result, other Jewish believers followed Peter’s hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.
14 When I saw that they were not following the truth of the gospel message, I said to Peter in front of all the others, “Since you, a Jew by birth, have discarded the Jewish laws and are living like a Gentile, why are you now trying to make these Gentiles follow the Jewish traditions?
15 “You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. 16 Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.”[d]
17 But suppose we seek to be made right with God through faith in Christ and then we are found guilty because we have abandoned the law. Would that mean Christ has led us into sin? Absolutely not! 18 Rather, I am a sinner if I rebuild the old system of law I already tore down. 19 For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. 20 My old self has been crucified with Christ.[e] It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

2 Paglabay sa 14 ka tuig, mibalik ako sa Jerusalem. Kauban ko si Barnabas, ug gidala ko usab si Tito. 2 Mibalik ako tungod kay nagpadayag ang Dios kanako nga kinahanglan moadto ako didto. Nakigkita ako sa mga tigdumala sa mga tumutuo, ug sa dihang kami-kami na lang, gisaysay ko kanila kon unsa ang Maayong Balita nga akong giwali sa mga dili Judio. Gibuhat ko kadto kay dili ko buot nga mahimong walay kapuslanan ang akong mga paghago kaniadto ug hangtod karon. 3 Nasabtan ko nga uyon sila sa akong giwali, kay bisan dili Judio si Tito nga kauban nako, wala sila mamugos nga tulion siya sumala sa Kasugoan ni Moises. 4 Ang mga tawo lang nga nagpakaaron-ingnon nga mga tumutuo ang nagaingon nga kinahanglan siya nga tulion. Kadto nga mga tawo mitipon lang sa mga tumutuo aron panid-an ang atong kagawasan gikan sa Kasugoan ni Moises, nga naangkon nato pinaagi kang Cristo Jesus. Kay gusto nila kitang pugson sa pagsunod sa maong mga sugo. 5 Apan wala gayod kami mosunod sa ilang gusto bisan gamay lang, aron maampingan namo alang kaninyo ang kamatuoran nga gitudlo sa Maayong Balita.
6 Ang mga kadagkoan sa mga tumutuo didto sa Jerusalem wala gayoy gidugang sa akong gitudlo. (Hinuon walay bali kanako kon kinsa gayod sila, tungod kay sa Dios managsama lang kami.) 7 Imbis nga modugang sila sa akong gitudlo, giila nila nga ako mao ang gitugyanan sa Dios sa pagtudlo sa Maayong Balita ngadto sa mga dili Judio, sama usab kang Pedro nga gitugyanan sa pagtudlo ngadto sa mga Judio. 8 Kay ang Dios nga naghimo kang Pedro nga apostol alang sa mga Judio mao usab ang naghimo kanako nga apostol alang sa mga dili Judio. 9 Busa pagkahibalo sa mga ginaila nga mga tigdumala sa mga tumutuo, nga mao sila si Santiago, Pedro,[a] ug Juan, nga gihatagan ako sa Dios niini nga buluhaton, gidawat nila kami ni Barnabas isip ilang mga kauban sa pagtudlo sa Maayong Balita. Ug nagkauyon kami nga kami ni Barnabas magsangyaw sa mga dili Judio ug sila sa mga Judio. 10 Ang ila lang gihangyo kanamo mao nga tabangan namo ang kabos nga mga tumutuo didto sa Jerusalem. Ug mao usab kana ang akong gustong buhaton.
Gibadlong ni Pablo si Pedro Didto sa Antioquia
11 Unya, sa dihang didto si Pedro sa Antioquia gibadlong ko siya tungod kay sayop ang iyang gibuhat. 12 Mao kini ang nahitabo: sa dihang wala pa moabot ang mga tawo ni Santiago, nagakaon si Pedro kauban sa mga dili Judio nga mga tumutuo. Apan pag-abot sa mga tawo ni Santiago, mibulag siya ug dili na siya mokaon uban sa mga dili Judio, kay nahadlok siya nga basin badlongon siya sa Judio nga mga tumutuo nga nagaingon nga ang tanan nga nagatuo kang Cristo kinahanglan mosunod sa Kasugoan ni Moises.[b] 13 Lakip ang uban nga Judio nga mga tumutuo didto sa Antioquia misunod usab kang Pedro bisan nasayran nila nga dili daotan ang mokaon uban sa mga dili Judio. Bisan gani si Barnabas nadala usab sa ilang pagpakaaron-ingnon. 14 Sa dihang nakita ko nga wala sila mosunod sa kamatuoran nga gitudlo sa Maayong Balita, gisultihan ko si Pedro atubangan sa tanan. Miingon ako kaniya, “Nganong gibuhat mo kadto? Sama ra nga gipugos mo ang mga dili Judio sa pagsunod sa mga kasugoan sa mga Judio. Ikaw gani mismo nga Judio wala man mosunod sa mga kasugoan sa mga Judio, kondili nagakinabuhi ingon nga usa ka dili Judio.”
Judio o Dili Managsama nga Maluwas kon Motuo
15 Natawo kami nga mga Judio, ug lahi kami sa mga dili Judio nga giisip namo kaniadto nga mga makasasala. 16 Apan karon nasayran na namo nga gipakamatarong sa Dios ang tawo pinaagi sa iyang pagtuo kang Cristo Jesus ug dili sa pagtuman sa Kasugoan ni Moises. Busa kami usab nga mga Judio mituo kang Cristo Jesus aron pakamatarungon kami sa Dios tungod sa among pagtuo ug dili tungod sa among pagtuman sa Kasugoan. Kay wala gayoy tawo nga pakamatarungon sa Dios pinaagi sa iyang pagtuman sa Kasugoan. 17 Karon, kon sa among tinguha nga pakamatarungon kami sa Dios pinaagi sa among pagpakighiusa kang Cristo makita nga kami makasasala, nagkahulogan ba kini nga si Cristo nagatukmod sa pagbuhat ug sala? Dili gayod! 18 Apan kon balikan ko na usab ang pagsalig sa Kasugoan nga akong gibiyaan, ako na ang nagapamatuod nga makasasala ako tungod kay gilapas ko ang Kasugoan. 19 Ang tinuod, pinaagi sa Kasugoan nasayran ko nga dili nako maangkon ang pagkamatarong pinaagi sa akong pagtinguha sa pagsunod niini. Ug karon nga dili na ako ilalom sa Kasugoan, gawasnon na ako nga magkinabuhi sa Dios. 20 Namatay ako kauban ni Cristo sa krus. Dili na ako ang nagakinabuhi karon, kondili si Cristo na ang nagakinabuhi kanako. Ug kining kinabuhi nga akong ginakinabuhi karon mao ang resulta sa akong pagtuo sa Anak sa Dios nga nahigugma kanako ug naghalad sa iyang kinabuhi alang kanako. 21 Wala ko gipakawalay pulos ang kalooy sa Dios. Kay kon ang pagtuman sa Kasugoan mao ang pamaagi nga pakamatarungon sa Dios ang tawo, nan walay kapuslanan ang kamatayon ni Cristo.
