21 I cast not away the grace of God. For if justice be by the law, then Christ died in vain.

O senseless Galatians, who hath bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been set forth, crucified among you?

This only would I learn of you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Are you so foolish, that, whereas you began in the Spirit, you would now be made perfect by the flesh?

Have you suffered so great things in vain? If it be yet in vain.

He therefore who giveth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you; doth he do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of the faith?

As it is written: Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.

Know ye therefore, that they who are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law,(A) Christ died for nothing!”[a]

Faith or Works of the Law

You foolish(B) Galatians!(C) Who has bewitched you?(D) Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.(E) I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit(F) by the works of the law,(G) or by believing what you heard?(H) Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?[b] Have you experienced[c] so much in vain—if it really was in vain? So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles(I) among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?(J) So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”[d](K)

Understand, then, that those who have faith(L) are children of Abraham.(M)
