Paul Opposes Cephas
11 When Cephas(A) came to Antioch,(B) I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James,(C) he used to eat with the Gentiles.(D) But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.(E) 13 The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas(F) was led astray.
14 When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel,(G) I said to Cephas(H) in front of them all, “You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew.(I) How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?(J)

17 Samuel said, “Although you were once small(A) in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel. 18 And he sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.’ 19 Why did you not obey the Lord? Why did you pounce on the plunder(B) and do evil in the eyes of the Lord?”
20 “But I did obey(C) the Lord,” Saul said. “I went on the mission the Lord assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites and brought back Agag their king. 21 The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the Lord your God at Gilgal.”
22 But Samuel replied:
“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice,(D)
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination,(E)
and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.
Because you have rejected(F) the word of the Lord,
he has rejected you as king.”
24 Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned.(G) I violated(H) the Lord’s command and your instructions. I was afraid(I) of the men and so I gave in to them. 25 Now I beg you, forgive(J) my sin and come back with me, so that I may worship the Lord.”
26 But Samuel said to him, “I will not go back with you. You have rejected(K) the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you as king over Israel!”
27 As Samuel turned to leave, Saul caught hold of the hem of his robe,(L) and it tore.(M) 28 Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn(N) the kingdom(O) of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors—to one better than you.(P) 29 He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie(Q) or change(R) his mind; for he is not a human being, that he should change his mind.”
30 Saul replied, “I have sinned.(S) But please honor(T) me before the elders of my people and before Israel; come back with me, so that I may worship the Lord your God.” 31 So Samuel went back with Saul, and Saul worshiped the Lord.

(I)he has also rejected you from being king.”
24 Saul said to Samuel, (J)“I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. 25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin and (K)return with me that I may bow before the Lord.” 26 And Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you. (L)For you have rejected the word of the Lord, (M)and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.” 27 (N)As Samuel turned to go away, Saul seized the skirt of his robe, and it tore. 28 And Samuel said to him, (O)“The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you. 29 And also the Glory of Israel (P)will not lie or have regret, for he is not a man, that he should have regret.” 30 Then he said, “I have sinned; yet (Q)honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, (R)and return with me, that I may bow before the Lord your God.” 31 So Samuel turned back after Saul, and Saul bowed before the Lord.

1 Have mercy(B) on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;(C)

blot out(E) my transgressions.(F)
2 Wash away(G) all my iniquity
and cleanse(H) me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.(I)
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned(J)

so you are right in your verdict

Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 (D)Bear one another's burdens, and (E)so fulfill (F)the law of Christ. 3 For (G)if anyone thinks he is something, (H)when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one (I)test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. 5 For (J)each will have to bear his own load.
