⁹ A little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough.

³³ Do not be deceived:

⁶ Your boasting is not a good thing. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all of the dough?^{(A) 7} Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch of dough, as you really are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed.^(B)

²¹ It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”

¹⁵ And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out—beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”^[a](A)

A Warning against Hypocrisy

12 Meanwhile, when the crowd had gathered by the thousands, so that they trampled on one another, he began to speak first to his disciples, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, that is, their hypocrisy.^(A)

⁶ Jesus said to them, “Watch out, and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”^{(A) 7} They said to one another, “It is because we have brought no bread.” ⁸ And becoming aware of it, Jesus said, “You of little faith, why are you talking about having no bread?^{(B) 9} Do you still not perceive? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many baskets you gathered?^{(C) 10} Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many baskets you gathered?^{(D) 11} How could you fail to perceive that I was not speaking about bread? Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!” ¹² Then they understood that he had not told them to beware of the yeast of bread but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

¹⁷ and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,^(A)

³³ You snakes, you brood of vipers! How can you escape the judgment of hell?^[a]
