¹⁵ But if you ^(A)bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

³ for you are still of the flesh. For while there is ^(A)jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?

²⁰ For you bear it if someone ^(A)makes slaves of you, or ^(B)devours you, or takes advantage of you, or puts on airs, or ^(C)strikes you in the face.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter ^(A)jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. ¹⁵ This is not ^(B)the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, ^(C)demonic. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. ¹⁷ But ^(D)the wisdom from above is first pure, then ^(E)peaceable, gentle, open to reason, ^(F)full of mercy and good fruits, ^(G)impartial and ^(H)sincere. ¹⁸ And ^(I)a harvest of righteousness ^(J)is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Warning Against Worldliness

4 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions^[a] are ^(K)at war within you?^{[b] 2} You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. ³ You ask and do not receive, because you ask ^(L)wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

^26 (A)Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

²⁰ For I fear that perhaps ^(A)when I come I may find you not as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish—that perhaps there may be quarreling, jealousy, anger, hostility, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder.

⁶ but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? ⁷ To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. ^(A)Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? ⁸ But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even ^(B)your own brothers!^[a]
