5 ¹ For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.^(A)

¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.^(A)

¹³ For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters, only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence,^[a] but through love become enslaved to one another.^(A)

¹⁶ As servants of God, live as free people, yet do not use your freedom as a pretext for evil.^(A)

¹⁴ For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.^(A)

³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”^{(A) 33} They answered him, “We are descendants of Abraham and have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean by saying, ‘You will be made free’?”^(B)

³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Very truly, I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.^{(C) 35} The slave does not have a permanent place in the household; the son has a place there forever.^{(D) 36} So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

² For the law of the Spirit^[a] of life in Christ Jesus has set you^[b] free from the law of sin and of death.^(A)

⁹ Now, however, that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and beggarly elemental principles?^[a] How can you want to be enslaved to them again?^(A)

²³ Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful.^(A)

⁴ But because of false brothers and sisters secretly brought in, who slipped in to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might enslave us^(A)—
