²⁹ At that time the son born according to the flesh^(A) persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit.^(B) It is the same now.

⁹ But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham^(A) was mocking,^(B)

¹¹ Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted?^(A) In that case the offense^(B) of the cross has been abolished.

¹³ For if you live according to the flesh, you will die;^(A) but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body,^(B) you will live.^(C)

³³ Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution;^(A) at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated.^{(B) 34} You suffered along with those in prison^(C) and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.^(D)

¹⁴ For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators^(A) of God’s churches in Judea,^(B) which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people^(C) the same things those churches suffered from the Jews ¹⁵ who killed the Lord Jesus^(D) and the prophets^(E) and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone

²³ His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh,^(A) but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.^(B)

⁹ “As the Father has loved me,^(A) so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.

⁵ Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.^(A)
