²³ Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, ^(A)imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed.

¹⁸ But if you are ^(A)led by the Spirit, ^(B)you are not under the law.

²⁴ So then, ^(A)the law was our ^(B)guardian until Christ came, ^(C)in order that we might be justified by faith. ²⁵ But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian,

³² For God ^(A)has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.

Sons and Heirs

4 I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave,^[a] though he is the owner of everything, ² but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. ³ In the same way we also, when we were children, ^(A)were enslaved to the elementary principles^[b] of the world. ⁴ But ^(B)when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, ^(C)born ^(D)of woman, born ^(E)under the law, ^5 (F)to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive ^(G)adoption as sons.

¹⁹ Why then the law? ^(A)It was added because of transgressions, ^(B)until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was ^(C)put in place through angels ^(D)by an intermediary.

¹⁴ For ^(A)sin ^(B)will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

Slaves to Righteousness

¹⁵ What then? ^(C)Are we to sin ^(D)because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever ^(A)the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, ^(B)so that every mouth may be stopped, and ^(C)the whole world may be held accountable to God.

¹¹ inquiring ^(A)what person or time^{[a] (B)}the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating ^(C)when he predicted ^(D)the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. ^12 (E)It was revealed to them that ^(F)they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you ^(G)by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, ^(H)things into which angels long to look.
