7 Finalmente, chegou o dia em que o Senhor disse a Noé: “Entra na embarcação com toda a tua família, porque, de toda a humanidade, tu és o único ser reto que encontrei. 2 Faz também entrar sete pares, macho e fêmea, de todos os animais cerimonialmente limpos, e um só par, macho e fêmea, dos animais não puros. 3 Das aves farás entrar igualmente sete pares reprodutores. Assim, se poderá manter viva cada espécie após a cheia. 4 Daqui a uma semana começarei a fazer chover, durante 40 dias e 40 noites, e tudo quanto criei com vida morrerá.”
5 Noé fez tudo segundo o que o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado. 6 Era da idade de 600 anos, quando o dilúvio começou. 7 Entrou então na embarcação com a sua mulher, filhos e noras, para escaparem àquela imensa cheia. 8-9 Com ele estava lá dentro, igualmente, toda a variedade de vida animal, tanto dos animais cerimonialmente limpos como não; tanto aves como animais terrestres. Estavam ali pares, macho e fêmea, tal como Deus mandara.
10 Passada aquela semana, as águas do dilúvio começaram a cair sobre a Terra. 11 No dia 17 do segundo mês, do ano em que Noé completou 600 anos, começou a chover torrencialmente, como nunca se tinha visto. Era como se os reservatórios dos abismos se tivessem aberto, juntamente com todas as comportas do céu. 12 E assim choveu durante 40 dias e 40 noites.
13 Contudo, Noé, no dia em que a chuva começou, tinha entrado naquela construção flutuante com a mulher e os filhos, Sem, Cam e Jafete, e estes com as mulheres. 14 Com eles tinham-se abrigado também todas as espécies de animais, domésticos e selvagens, desde aves aos que rastejam no solo. 15-16 Entraram dois a dois, de todos os seres que respiram, conforme o que Deus tinha indicado. Um macho e uma fêmea de cada espécie. Então o Senhor fechou, ele mesmo, a porta por fora.
17 Durante 40 dias, aquela enchente enorme cobriu a Terra toda; primeiro as planícies, levantando a construção flutuante. 18 Depois as águas continuaram a subir, sempre cada vez mais, 19 de forma que a embarcação já flutuava em segurança, muitos metros acima da terra. Até que, finalmente, como o dilúvio não parava, mesmo as montanhas mais altas ficaram cobertas. 20 Não se via, debaixo do céu, um só monte que não estivesse sob as águas, as quais os ultrapassavam em uns 7 metros ou mais. 21 E morreu tudo o que tinha vida sobre a terra: aves, quadrúpedes, répteis e, é claro, todo o ser humano. 22 Tudo o que respirava, quer voasse ou vivesse na terra seca, desapareceu. 23 Assim, desapareceu tudo o que existia na Terra, animais e seres humanos. Apenas Noé e os que estavam com ele na embarcação sobreviveram.
24 As águas cobriram a terra durante 150 dias.

The Flood Begins
7 Then the Lord said to Noah, “I have seen that you are the best man among the people of this time. So you and your family go into the boat. 2 Take with you seven pairs, each male with its female, of every kind of clean animal. And take one pair, each male with its female, of every kind of unclean animal. 3 Take seven pairs of all the birds of the sky, each male with its female. This will allow all these animals to continue living on the earth after the flood. 4 Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth. It will rain 40 days and 40 nights. I will destroy from the earth every living thing that I made.”
5 Noah did everything that the Lord commanded him.
6 Noah was 600 years old when the flood came. 7 He and his wife and his sons and their wives went into the boat. They went in to escape the waters of the flood. 8 The clean animals, the unclean animals, the birds and everything that crawls on the ground 9 came to Noah. They went into the boat in groups of two, male and female. This was just as God had commanded Noah. 10 Seven days later the flood started.
11 Noah was now 600 years old. The flood started on the seventeenth day of the second month of that year. That day the underground springs split open. And the clouds in the sky poured out rain. 12 The rain fell on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights.
13 On that same day Noah and his wife, his sons Shem, Ham and Japheth and their wives went into the boat. 14 They had every kind of wild animal and tame animal. There was every kind of animal that crawls on the earth. Every kind of bird was there. 15 They all came to Noah in the boat in groups of two. There was every creature that had the breath of life. 16 One male and one female of every living thing came. It was just as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord closed the door behind them.
17 Water flooded the earth for 40 days. As the water rose, it lifted the boat off the ground. 18 The water continued to rise, and the boat floated on the water above the earth. 19 The water rose so much that even the highest mountains under the sky were covered by it. 20 The water continued to rise until it was more than 20 feet above the mountains.
21 All living things that moved on the earth died. This included all the birds, tame animals, wild animals and creatures that swarm on the earth. And all human beings died. 22 So everything on dry land died. This means everything that had the breath of life in its nose. 23 So God destroyed from the earth every living thing that was on the land. This was every man, animal, crawling thing and bird of the sky. All that was left was Noah and what was with him in the boat. 24 And the waters continued to cover the earth for 150 days.

7 The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family,(A) because I have found you righteous(B) in this generation. 2 Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean(C) animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, 3 and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive(D) throughout the earth. 4 Seven days from now I will send rain(E) on the earth(F) for forty days(G) and forty nights,(H) and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.(I)”
5 And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.(J)
6 Noah was six hundred years old(K) when the floodwaters came on the earth. 7 And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark(L) to escape the waters of the flood. 8 Pairs of clean and unclean(M) animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, 9 male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah.(N) 10 And after the seven days(O) the floodwaters came on the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life,(P) on the seventeenth day of the second month(Q)—on that day all the springs of the great deep(R) burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens(S) were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.(T)
13 On that very day Noah and his sons,(U) Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.(V) 14 They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind,(W) everything with wings. 15 Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark.(X) 16 The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah.(Y) Then the Lord shut him in.
17 For forty days(Z) the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.(AA) 20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.[a][b] (AB) 21 Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.(AC) 22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life(AD) in its nostrils died. 23 Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth.(AE) Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.(AF)
24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.(AG)
