Abraão nega que Sara é sua mulher
20 E partiu Abraão dali para a terra do Sul e habitou entre Cades e Sur; e peregrinou em Gerar. 2 E, havendo Abraão dito de Sara, sua mulher: É minha irmã, enviou Abimeleque, rei de Gerar, e tomou a Sara. 3 Deus, porém, veio a Abimeleque em sonhos de noite e disse-lhe: Eis que morto és por causa da mulher que tomaste; porque ela está casada com marido. 4 Mas Abimeleque ainda não se tinha chegado a ela; por isso, disse: Senhor, matarás também uma nação justa? 5 Não me disse ele mesmo: É minha irmã? E ela também disse: É meu irmão. Em sinceridade do coração e em pureza das minhas mãos, tenho feito isto. 6 E disse-lhe Deus em sonhos: Bem sei eu que na sinceridade do teu coração fizeste isto; e também eu te tenho impedido de pecar contra mim; por isso, te não permiti tocá-la. 7 Agora, pois, restitui a mulher ao seu marido, porque profeta é e rogará por ti, para que vivas; porém, se não lha restituíres, sabe que certamente morrerás, tu e tudo o que é teu.
8 E levantou-se Abimeleque pela manhã, de madrugada, chamou todos os seus servos e falou todas estas palavras em seus ouvidos; e temeram muito aqueles varões. 9 Então, chamou Abimeleque a Abraão e disse-lhe: Que nos fizeste? E em que pequei contra ti, para trazeres sobre mim e meu reino tamanho pecado? Tu me fizeste aquilo que não deverias ter feito. 10 Disse mais Abimeleque a Abraão: Que tens visto, para fazeres tal coisa? 11 E disse Abraão: Porque eu dizia comigo: Certamente não há temor de Deus neste lugar, e eles me matarão por amor da minha mulher. 12 E, na verdade, é ela também minha irmã, filha de meu pai, mas não filha da minha mãe; e veio a ser minha mulher. 13 E aconteceu que, fazendo-me Deus sair errante da casa de meu pai, eu lhe disse: Seja esta a graça que me farás em todo o lugar aonde viermos: dize de mim: É meu irmão. 14 Então, tomou Abimeleque ovelhas, e vacas, e servos, e servas e os deu a Abraão; e restituiu-lhe Sara, sua mulher. 15 E disse Abimeleque: Eis que a minha terra está diante da tua face; habita onde bom for aos teus olhos. 16 E a Sara disse: Vês que tenho dado ao teu irmão mil moedas de prata; eis que elas te sejam por véu dos olhos para com todos os que contigo estão e até para com todos os outros; e estás advertida. 17 E orou Abraão a Deus, e sarou Deus a Abimeleque, e a sua mulher, e as suas servas, de maneira que tiveram filhos; 18 porque o Senhor havia fechado totalmente todas as madres da casa de Abimeleque, por causa de Sara, mulher de Abraão.

Abraão mente para Abimeleque
20 Abraão se mudou para o Neguebe, ao sul. Permaneceu por algum tempo entre Cades e Sur e depois seguiu até Gerar. Enquanto morava ali como estrangeiro, 2 Abraão apresentava Sara, sua mulher, dizendo: “Ela é minha irmã”. Por isso, o rei Abimeleque, de Gerar, mandou buscar Sara para seu palácio.
3 Naquela noite, Deus apareceu a Abimeleque num sonho e lhe disse: “Você vai morrer! A mulher que tomou já é casada!”.
4 Abimeleque, porém, ainda não havia dormido com ela. Assim, disse: “Senhor, castigarás uma nação inocente? 5 Não foi Abraão quem me disse: ‘Ela é minha irmã’? E ela própria afirmou: ‘Sim, ele é meu irmão’? Agi com total inocência. Minhas mãos estão limpas!”.
6 No sonho, Deus respondeu: “Sim, eu sei que você é inocente. Por isso o impedi de pecar e não deixei que a tocasse. 7 Agora, devolva a mulher ao marido dela, e ele orará por você, pois é profeta. Então você viverá. Mas, se não a devolver, esteja certo de que você e todo o seu povo morrerão”.
8 Na manhã seguinte, Abimeleque se levantou cedo e, sem demora, reuniu todos os seus servos. Quando contou o que havia acontecido, seus homens se encheram de medo. 9 Então Abimeleque mandou chamar Abraão. “O que você fez conosco?”, perguntou. “Que crime cometi para merecer este tratamento que nos torna, a mim e ao meu reino, culpados deste grande pecado? O que você me fez não se faz a ninguém! 10 O que deu em você para agir desse jeito?”
11 Abraão respondeu: “Pensei comigo: ‘Este é um lugar onde ninguém teme a Deus, e vão me matar para ficarem com minha mulher’. 12 Além do mais, ela é, de fato, minha irmã por parte de pai, mas não de mãe, e eu me casei com ela. 13 Quando Deus me chamou para deixar a casa de meu pai e viajar de um lugar para outro, eu disse a ela: ‘Faça-me este favor: por onde formos, diga que eu sou seu irmão’”.
14 Então Abimeleque pegou ovelhas e bois, servos e servas, e os deu de presente a Abraão. Também lhe devolveu Sara, sua mulher. 15 Abimeleque disse: “Veja, minha terra está à sua disposição. More onde lhe parecer melhor”. 16 E disse a Sara: “Estou dando a seu irmão mil peças[a] de prata diante de todas estas testemunhas para reparar qualquer dano que eu lhe tenha causado. Assim, todos saberão que você é inocente”.
17 Então Abraão orou a Deus, e Deus curou Abimeleque, sua mulher e suas servas, de modo que pudessem ter filhos, 18 pois o Senhor havia tornado estéreis todas as mulheres do harém de Abimeleque por causa do que tinha acontecido com Sara, mulher de Abraão.

Abraham och kung Avimelek
20 Abraham flyttade söderut till Negev och bosatte sig mellan Kadesh och Shur. Under en tid var han i Gerar, 2 och där sa han om sin hustru Sara att hon var hans syster. Då lät Gerars kung Avimelek hämta henne till sig.
3 Men om natten kom Gud till Avimelek i en dröm och sa: ”Du ska dö, eftersom den kvinna du har tagit till dig är gift.” 4 Men Avimelek hade inte legat med henne, så han sa: ”Herre, vill du döda en oskyldig nation? 5 Han påstod ju att hon var hans syster. Och hon själv sa: ’Ja, han är min bror.’ Jag har inte haft den minsta tanke på att göra något ont eller något felaktigt.”
6 ”Ja, jag vet det”, svarade Gud i en dröm. ”Du har handlat med uppriktigt hjärta. Det är därför som jag har hindrat dig från att synda emot mig, och därför lät jag dig inte röra henne. 7 Återlämna henne nu till hennes man. Han ska be för dig så att du får leva, för han är en profet. Men om du inte återlämnar henne till honom, ska både du och hela din familj straffas med döden.”
8 Nästa morgon steg kungen upp tidigt och kallade snabbt samman sina män. Han talade om för dem vad som hade hänt och de blev allesammans mycket rädda.
9 Sedan kallade kungen på Abraham. ”Vad är det du har gjort mot oss?” frågade han. ”Och vad har jag gjort, för att du ska behandla mig på det här sättet och göra mig och mitt kungarike skyldiga till denna stora synd? Du har gjort något som inte får göras mot mig.” 10 Avimelek frågade Abraham: ”Vad har fått dig att handla så?”
11 Abraham svarade: ”Jag räknade med att man inte fruktade Gud på denna plats. Jag tänkte att ni kunde döda mig för att få min hustru. 12 Dessutom är hon faktiskt min syster, för vi har samma far, men inte samma mor. Därför kunde jag gifta mig med henne. 13 När Gud skickade iväg mig på den långa resan från mitt barndomshem, sa jag till henne: ’Visa mig din kärlek genom att säga att jag är din bror, vart vi än kommer.’ ”
14 Då tog kung Avimelek får och oxar och slavar, både män och kvinnor, och gav till Abraham samtidigt som han återlämnade hans hustru Sara.
15 ”Se dig omkring i mitt rike och välj själv var du vill bo”, sa Avimelek till honom. 16 Sedan vände han sig till Sara: ”Se här, jag ger din bror 1 000 siklar[a] silver som ersättning åt dig inför de dina. På så sätt blir du upprättad inför alla.”
17 Då bad Abraham till Gud att han skulle bota kungen och hans hustru och slavinnor så att de skulle kunna få barn. 18 Herren hade nämligen slagit alla kvinnorna med ofruktsamhet för Saras, Abrahams hustrus, skull.

Abraham and Abimelek(A)
20 Now Abraham moved on from there(B) into the region of the Negev(C) and lived between Kadesh(D) and Shur.(E) For a while(F) he stayed in Gerar,(G) 2 and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.(H)” Then Abimelek(I) king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.(J)
3 But God came to Abimelek(K) in a dream(L) one night and said to him, “You are as good as dead(M) because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman.”(N)
4 Now Abimelek had not gone near her, so he said, “Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation?(O) 5 Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister,(P)’ and didn’t she also say, ‘He is my brother’? I have done this with a clear conscience(Q) and clean hands.(R)”
6 Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept(S) you from sinning against me.(T) That is why I did not let you touch her. 7 Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet,(U) and he will pray for you(V) and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all who belong to you will die.”(W)
8 Early the next morning Abimelek summoned all his officials, and when he told them all that had happened, they were very much afraid. 9 Then Abimelek called Abraham in and said, “What have you done to us? How have I wronged you that you have brought such great guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should never be done.(X)” 10 And Abimelek asked Abraham, “What was your reason for doing this?”
11 Abraham replied, “I said to myself, ‘There is surely no fear of God(Y) in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’(Z) 12 Besides, she really is my sister,(AA) the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife. 13 And when God had me wander(AB) from my father’s household,(AC) I said to her, ‘This is how you can show your love to me: Everywhere we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”
14 Then Abimelek(AD) brought sheep and cattle and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham,(AE) and he returned Sarah his wife to him. 15 And Abimelek said, “My land is before you; live wherever you like.”(AF)
16 To Sarah he said, “I am giving your brother a thousand shekels[a] of silver. This is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated.”
17 Then Abraham prayed to God,(AG) and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again, 18 for the Lord had kept all the women in Abimelek’s household from conceiving because of Abraham’s wife Sarah.(AH)

3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.
8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.
12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
18 For the Lord had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
