La maldad de los hombres
6 Cuando los hombres comenzaron a multiplicarse por toda la faz de la tierra, y les nacieron hijas, 2 sucedió que los hijos de Dios vieron que las hijas de los hombres eran hermosas. Entonces tomaron mujeres para sí, las que escogieron de entre ellas. 3 Y el Señor dijo: «No va a estar mi espíritu peleando siempre con el hombre, pues él no es más que carne. Vivirá hasta ciento veinte años.»
4 En esos días había gigantes en la tierra,(A) y también después de que los hijos de Dios se unieran a las hijas de los hombres y les engendraran hijos. Éstos fueron los grandes héroes que desde la antigüedad ganaron renombre.
5 El Señor vio que era mucha la maldad de los hombres en la tierra, y que todos los planes y pensamientos de su corazón eran siempre los de hacer sólo el mal. 6 Y le pesó al Señor haber hecho al hombre en la tierra. Le dolió mucho en el corazón. 7 Y dijo el Señor: «Borraré de la faz de la tierra al hombre que he creado, lo mismo que a las bestias, los reptiles y las aves del cielo. ¡Me pesa haberlos hecho!» 8 Pero Noé halló gracia a los ojos del Señor.(B)
Noé construye el arca
9 Noé era un hombre justo.(C) En sus acciones fue perfecto, pues siempre anduvo con Dios. Éstos fueron sus descendientes: 10 Noé engendró tres hijos, que fueron Sem, Cam y Jafet. 11 Delante de Dios la tierra se corrompió y se llenó de violencia. 12 Cuando Dios miró la tierra, encontró que estaba corrompida; de hecho, toda carne había corrompido su camino sobre la tierra. 13 Entonces Dios le dijo a Noé:
«He decidido acabar con todo ser, pues por causa de ellos la tierra está llena de violencia. ¡Yo los destruiré, junto con la tierra! 14 Hazte un arca de madera de gofer, con aposentos en ella, y recúbrela con brea por dentro y por fuera. 15 Hazla de esta manera: su longitud será de ciento treinta y cinco metros, su anchura será de veintidós y medio metros, y su altura de trece y medio metros. 16 Hazle una ventana, y termínala a medio metro de altura desde la parte de arriba. Pon en su costado la puerta del arca, y hazle un piso inferior, y un segundo y un tercer piso. 17 Yo voy a traer sobre la tierra un diluvio, y destruiré a todo ser bajo el cielo en que haya hálito de vida. ¡Todo lo que hay en la tierra morirá! 18 Pero contigo estableceré mi pacto, y tú entrarás en el arca, y contigo tus hijos, tu mujer, y las mujeres de tus hijos. 19 De todos los seres vivos meterás en el arca dos de cada especie, un macho y una hembra, para que sobrevivan contigo. 20 De las aves según su especie, de las bestias según su especie, y de todo reptil de la tierra según su especie, entrarán contigo dos de cada especie, para que sobrevivan. 21 Lleva contigo de todo aquello que se puede comer, y almacénalo, pues eso les servirá de alimento.»
22 Y Noé lo hizo así.(D) Todo lo hizo conforme a lo que Dios le ordenó.

El origen de los gigantes
6 Los hombres y las mujeres se fueron haciendo cada vez más numerosos sobre la tierra, y tuvieron hijas. 2 Cuando los hijos de Dios vieron que las mujeres de este mundo eran muy bonitas, eligieron a las más hermosas y se casaron con ellas. 3 Pero Dios dijo: «No permitiré que los seres humanos vivan para siempre. ¡No van a pasar de los ciento veinte años!»
4 Los hijos de Dios tuvieron hijos con las mujeres de este mundo, que fueron los gigantes de los tiempos antiguos. Éstos llegaron a ser guerreros muy fuertes y famosos.
Dios se enoja con la gente
5 En este mundo, la maldad de hombres y mujeres iba en aumento. Siempre estaban pensando en hacer lo malo, y sólo lo malo. Cuando Dios vio tanta maldad en ellos, 6 se puso muy triste de haberlos hecho, y lamentó haberlos puesto en la tierra. 7 Por eso dijo: «¡Voy a borrar de este mundo a la humanidad que he creado! ¡Voy a acabar con toda la gente y con todos los animales! ¡Estoy muy triste de haberlos hecho!» 8 Sin embargo, Dios se fijó en Noé y le gustó su buena conducta.
Noé construye una casa flotante
9 Noé siempre obedeció a Dios. Entre la gente de su tiempo no había nadie más bueno ni honrado que él. 10 Noé tuvo tres hijos, que fueron Sem, Cam y Jafet.
11-12 Dios se dio cuenta de que los habitantes de la tierra eran rebeldes y violentos. 13 Por eso le dijo a Noé:
«Voy a acabar con todos los seres vivientes de este mundo, y dejaré la tierra inhabitable porque está llena de violencia. 14 Así que toma madera y hazte una casa flotante. Úntala con brea[a] por dentro y por fuera, y constrúyele varios cuartos. 15-16 La casa debe ser de tres pisos, y medir ciento treinta y cinco metros de largo, veintidós metros de ancho y trece metros de alto. Hazle un techo y una puerta en el costado, y también ventanas a medio metro del techo. 17 Yo voy a enviar sobre la tierra una lluvia tan fuerte que acabará con todo lo que tenga vida en este mundo. ¡No quedará nada con vida!
18 »Sin embargo, voy a hacer un trato contigo. Tú, tus hijos, tu esposa y tus nueras entrarán en la casa flotante, 19-20 y también un macho y una hembra de toda clase de aves, reptiles y animales domésticos y salvajes. Los meterás contigo, para que no mueran. 21 Toma toda clase de alimentos y guárdalos en la bodega, para que todos tengan qué comer».
22 Y Noé siguió con cuidado todas las instrucciones que Dios le dio.

6 And it happened that, when humankind began to multiply on the face of the ground, daughters were born to them. 2 Then[a] the sons of God saw the daughters of humankind, that they were beautiful. And they took for themselves wives from all that they chose. 3 And Yahweh said, “My Spirit shall not abide with humankind forever in that he is also flesh. And his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 The Nephilim were upon the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God went into the daughters of humankind, and they bore children to them.
5 And Yahweh saw that the evil of humankind was great upon the earth, and every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was always[b] only evil. 6 And Yahweh regretted that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was grieved in his heart.[c] 7 And Yahweh said, “I will destroy humankind whom I created from upon the face of the earth, from humankind, to animals, to creeping things, and to the birds of heaven,[d] for I regret that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of Yahweh.
9 These are the generations[e] of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, without defect in his generations. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 And the earth was corrupted before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth was filled with violence because of them. Now, look, I am going to destroy them along with the earth. 14 Make for yourself an ark of cypress wood; you must make the ark with rooms, then[f] you must cover it with pitch, inside and outside. 15 And this is how you must make it: the length of the ark, three hundred cubits; its width fifty cubits; its height, thirty cubits. 16 You must make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above.[g] And as for the door of the ark, you must put it in its side. You must make it with a lower, second, and a third deck.
17 And I, behold, I am about to bring the flood waters over the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life from under the heaven;[h] everything that is on the earth shall perish. 18 And I will establish my covenant with you, and you must go into the ark—you, and your sons, and your wife, and the wives of your sons with you. 19 And of every living thing, from all flesh, you must bring two from every kind into the ark to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 From the birds according to their[i] kind, and from the animals according to their[j] kind, from every creeping thing on the ground according to its[k] kind—two from every kind shall come to you to keep them alive. 21 And as for you, take for yourself from every kind of food that is eaten. And you must gather it to yourself. And it shall be for you and for them for food.” 22 And Noah did according to all that God commanded him; thus he did.
