Funeral de Jacob
50 Luego José abrazó a su papá, lloró por él y lo besó. 2 Después José les dijo a los médicos que lo atendían, que prepararan a su papá para el entierro. 3 Demoraron 40 días haciendo esto, que era el tiempo que normalmente duraba la preparación para el entierro. Los egipcios guardaron 70 días de luto. 4 Cuando terminó el luto, José habló con la corte del faraón, y le dijo:
—Si yo les agrado, háganme el favor de decirle al faraón 5 que mi papá me hizo prometerle que lo enterraría en una cueva en la tierra de Canaán. Él mismo se preparó esa cueva como su sepulcro. Por favor déjenme ir a enterrar a mi papá y después regresaré aquí a donde están ustedes.
6 El faraón le dijo:
—Cumple tu promesa. Ve y entierra a tu papá.
7 Entonces José fue a enterrar a su papá. Lo acompañaron todos los funcionarios del rey, es decir los ancianos de su casa y todos los ancianos de Egipto. 8 También lo acompañaron todos los familiares de José y sus hermanos. Los únicos que se quedaron en la tierra de Gosén fueron los niños menores, los rebaños y el ganado. 9 También fueron carrozas y hombres a caballo. Era un grupo muy numeroso.
10 Cuando llegaron al lugar donde se trilla el trigo de Atad, que quedaba al otro lado del río Jordán, lloraron mucho por Jacob, y José le guardó luto por siete días. 11 Los cananeos que vivían en esa tierra vieron la tristeza que reinaba en Atad, y dijeron: «¡Los egipcios están en un luto muy triste!» Por esa razón llamaron a ese sitio Luto de los egipcios.[a] Ese lugar queda cruzando el río Jordán.
12 Los hijos de Jacob hicieron todo lo que él les había dicho. 13 Lo cargaron hasta la tierra de Canaán y lo enterraron en la cueva del campo de Macpela. Ese era el campo, cerca de Mamré, que Abraham le había comprado a Efrón el hitita para hacer un cementerio. 14 Después del funeral de su papá, José, sus hermanos y todos los que lo habían acompañado, regresaron a Egipto.
Los hermanos se disculpan con José
15 Los hermanos de José estaban temerosos porque su papá había muerto. Dijeron: «Tal vez José siga enojado con nosotros y nos haga pagar por todo el mal que le hicimos». 16 Entonces le mandaron un mensaje a José que decía: «Tu papá nos dio estas instrucciones antes de morir: 17 “Díganle esto a José: Por favor, olvida la maldad y los pecados de tus hermanos. Perdona el mal que te hicieron”. Entonces te ruego que perdones la maldad que cometieron los siervos del Dios de tu papá».
Cuando José leyó ese mensaje, se puso a llorar. 18 Luego sus hermanos fueron a buscarlo, se inclinaron ante él, y le dijeron:
—Nosotros somos tus esclavos.
19 Pero José les dijo:
—No tengan miedo. ¿Acaso puedo tomar el lugar de Dios? 20 Ustedes planearon hacerme daño, pero Dios lo hizo para bien. Lo hizo para obtener los resultados que vemos ahora, para salvarle la vida a mucha gente. 21 No tengan miedo, yo los voy a mantener a ustedes y a sus hijos.
De esta manera, José les dijo cosas buenas a sus hermanos y los hizo sentir bien.
22 José y los familiares de su papá se quedaron a vivir en Egipto. José vivió 110 años. 23 La vida de José le alcanzó para conocer a los hijos y a los nietos de Efraín y estuvo presente cuando nacieron los hijos de Maquir, hijo de Manasés.
Muerte de José
24 José les dijo a sus parientes: «Me estoy muriendo, pero con seguridad Dios va a venir a cuidarlos, los va a sacar de este país y los va a guiar hacia la tierra que le prometió a Abraham, Isaac y a Jacob». 25 José hizo que los hijos de Jacob le hicieran una promesa. Les dijo: «Cuando Dios venga por ustedes, llévense mis huesos de aquí».
26 José murió a los 110 años de edad, lo embalsamaron y lo colocaron en un ataúd en Egipto.

50 Юсуф припал к отцу, заплакал над ним и поцеловал его. 2 Он приказал своим слугам-врачам набальзамировать тело отца, и врачи набальзамировали Исраила. 3 У них ушло на это сорок дней, потому что таков полный срок бальзамирования. И египтяне оплакивали его семьдесят дней.
4 Когда прошли дни плача, Юсуф сказал придворным фараона:
– Если я нашёл расположение в ваших глазах, то попросите за меня фараона; скажите ему: 5 «Мой отец велел мне дать клятву и сказал: „Я умираю; похорони меня в могиле, которую я выкопал себе в земле Ханаана“. Позволь же мне пойти и похоронить моего отца; после этого я вернусь».
6 Фараон сказал:
– Иди и похорони отца так, как ты поклялся ему.
7 И Юсуф пошёл хоронить своего отца, и с ним пошли все придворные фараона, старейшины двора, и все старейшины Египта, 8 и весь дом Юсуфа, и его братья, и весь дом его отца. Только их дети и стада крупного и мелкого скота остались в Гошене. 9 Их сопровождали колесницы и всадники; это была великая процессия.
10 Они пришли к гумну Атада, что рядом с рекой Иорданом, и там стали громко и горько плакать. Там Юсуф семь дней оплакивал отца. 11 Когда хананеи, обитатели той земли, увидели плач у гумна Атада, они сказали: «У египтян великий плач и горе». Вот почему то место рядом с Иорданом называется Авель-Мицраим («плач египтян»).
12 Так сыновья Якуба исполнили его наказ: 13 они отнесли его в землю Ханаана и похоронили в пещере на поле Махпела, рядом с Мамре; эту пещеру Ибрахим купил у хетта Эфрона вместе с полем, чтобы было у него место для погребения. 14 Похоронив отца, Юсуф возвратился в Египет, вместе с братьями и всеми, кто ходил с ним хоронить отца.
Юсуф прощает братьев
15 Когда отец умер, братья Юсуфа подумали: «Что, если Юсуф таит на нас злобу и теперь отплатит нам за всё зло, которое мы ему причинили?» 16 И они послали к Юсуфу сказать:
– Перед смертью отец оставил такие наставления: 17 «Вот, что вы должны сказать вашему брату Юсуфу: „Я прошу тебя простить твоим братьям их вину и грехи, которые они совершили, поступив с тобой так скверно“». И теперь, пожалуйста, прости грехи рабов Бога отца твоего.
Получив это послание, Юсуф заплакал.
18 Его братья пришли, пали перед ним на землю и сказали:
– Мы твои рабы.
19 Юсуф ответил:
– Не бойтесь. Разве я Аллах? 20 Вы замыслили против меня зло, но Аллах обратил его ко благу, чтобы совершить то, что происходит теперь: спасение многих жизней. 21 Поэтому не бойтесь: я прокормлю и вас, и ваших детей.
Он успокоил их и говорил с ними ласково.
Смерть Юсуфа
22 Юсуф жил в Египте вместе со всей семьёй своего отца, и прожил сто десять лет. 23 Он застал ещё третье поколение потомков Ефраима; и детей Махира, сына Манассы, тоже положили при рождении на колени Юсуфа.[a]
24 Юсуф сказал братьям:
– Я умираю, но Аллах непременно придёт к вам на помощь и выведет вас из этой земли в землю, которую Он с клятвой обещал Ибрахиму, Исхаку и Якубу.
25 Юсуф велел сыновьям Исраила дать клятву и сказал:
– Аллах непременно придёт к вам на помощь, и тогда вы должны вынести мои кости отсюда.
26 Юсуф умер в возрасте ста десяти лет, и его набальзамировали и положили в гроб[b] в Египте.

Amplified Bible
Burial Preparations and Mourning for Jacob
50 Then Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept over him and kissed him [tenderly]. 2 Then Joseph ordered his servants the physicians to embalm (mummify) his father. So the physicians embalmed Israel (Jacob). 3 Now forty days were required for this, for that is the customary number of days [of preparation] required for embalming. And the Egyptians wept and grieved for him [in public mourning as they would for royalty] for seventy days.
4 When the days of weeping and public mourning for him were past, Joseph spoke to [the nobles of] the house of Pharaoh, saying, “If now I have found favor in your sight, please speak to Pharaoh, saying, 5 ‘My father made me swear [an oath], saying, “Hear me, I am about to die; bury me in my tomb which I prepared for myself in the land of Canaan.” So now let me go up [to Canaan], please, and bury my father; then I will return.’” 6 And Pharaoh said, “Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear.”
7 So Joseph went up [to Canaan] to bury his father, and with him went all the officials of Pharaoh, [the nobles of his court and] the elders of his household and all [the nobles and] the elders of the land of Egypt— 8 and all the household of Joseph and his brothers and his father’s household. They left only their little ones and their flocks and herds in the land of Goshen. 9 Both chariots and horsemen also went up [to Canaan] with Joseph; and it was a very great company. 10 When they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, they mourned there with a great lamentation (expressions of mourning for the deceased) and [extreme demonstrations of] sorrow [according to Egyptian custom]; and Joseph observed a seven-day mourning for his father. 11 When the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “This is a grievous mourning for the Egyptians.” Therefore the place was named Abel-mizraim (mourning of Egypt); it is west of the Jordan.
Burial at Machpelah
12 So Jacob’s sons did for him as he had commanded them; 13 for his sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, east of Mamre, which Abraham bought along with the field as a burial site from Ephron the Hittite. 14 After he had buried his father, Joseph returned to Egypt, he and his brothers, and all who had gone up with him.
15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph carries a grudge against us and pays us back in full for all the wrong which we did to him?” 16 So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father commanded us before he died, saying, 17 ‘You are to say to Joseph, “I beg you, please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, for they did you wrong.”’ Now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 Then his brothers went and fell down before him [in confession]; then they said, “Behold, we are your servants (slaves).” 19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? [Vengeance is His, not mine.] 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present outcome, that many people would be kept alive [as they are this day]. 21 So now, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and support you and your little ones.” So he comforted them [giving them encouragement and hope] and spoke [with kindness] to their hearts.
Death of Joseph
22 Now Joseph lived in Egypt, he and his father’s household, and Joseph lived a hundred and ten years. 23 Joseph saw the third generation of Ephraim’s children; also the children of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born and raised on Joseph’s knees. 24 Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will surely take care of you and bring you up out of this land to the land which He promised to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob [to give you].” 25 Then Joseph made the sons of Israel (Jacob) swear [an oath], saying, “God will surely visit you and take care of you [returning you to Canaan], and [when that happens] you shall carry my bones up from here.” 26 So Joseph died, being a hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him and he was put [a]in a coffin in Egypt.

- Genesis 50:26 Joseph’s body remained in Egypt until the exodus to the promised land of Canaan about two hundred years later. Its final resting-place was Shechem, near Samaria, in the parcel of ground which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem (Josh 24:32). Here each of his brothers was also buried (Acts 7:15, 16).
