Profecía de Israel acerca de sus hijos

49 Entonces Jacob llamó a sus hijos, y dijo: Reuníos para que os haga saber lo que os ha de acontecer en los días venideros[a](A).

2 Juntaos y oíd, hijos de Jacob,
y escuchad a Israel vuestro padre(B).

3 Rubén, tú eres mi primogénito,
mi poderío y el principio de mi vigor(C),
prominente en dignidad y prominente en poder.
4 Incontrolable[b] como el agua, no tendrás preeminencia,
porque subiste a la cama de tu padre,
y la profanaste: él subió a mi lecho(D).

5 Simeón y Leví son hermanos;
sus armas instrumentos de violencia(E).
6 En su consejo no entre mi alma(F),
a su asamblea no se una mi gloria,
porque en su ira mataron hombres[c],
y en su obstinación desjarretaron bueyes[d].
7 Maldita su ira porque es feroz;
y su furor porque es cruel.
Los dividiré en Jacob,
y los dispersaré en Israel(G).

8 A ti Judá, te alabarán tus hermanos;
tu mano en la cerviz de tus enemigos;
se inclinarán a ti los hijos de tu padre(H).
9 Cachorro de león es Judá(I);
de la presa, hijo mío, has subido.
Se agazapa, se echa como león,
o como leona, ¿quién lo despertará(J)?
10 El cetro no se apartará de Judá(K),
ni la vara de gobernante de entre sus pies,
hasta que venga Siloh[e],
y a él sea dada la obediencia de los pueblos(L).
11 Él ata[f] a la vid su pollino,
y a la mejor cepa el hijo de su asna(M);
él lava en vino sus vestiduras,
y en la sangre de las uvas su manto(N).
12 Sus ojos están apagados por[g] el vino,
y sus dientes blancos por[h] la leche.

13 Zabulón habitará a la orilla del mar(O);
y él será puerto para[i] naves,
y su límite será hasta[j] Sidón.

14 Isacar es un asno fuerte[k],
echado entre los apriscos[l](P).
15 Al ver que el lugar de reposo era bueno
y que la tierra era agradable,
inclinó su hombro para cargar,
y llegó a ser esclavo en trabajos forzados.

16 Dan(Q) juzgará a su pueblo(R),
como una de las tribus de Israel.
17 Sea Dan serpiente junto al camino,
víbora junto al sendero,
que muerde los jarretes[m] del caballo,
y cae su jinete hacia atrás.
18 ¡Tu salvación espero, oh Señor(S)!

19 A Gad salteadores[n] lo asaltarán,
mas él asaltará su retaguardia[o](T).

20 En cuanto a[p] Aser(U), su alimento[q] será sustancioso[r],
y él dará manjares de rey(V).

21 Neftalí(W) es una cierva en libertad,
que pronuncia[s] palabras hermosas.

22 Rama fecunda[t] es José(X),
rama fecunda[u] junto a un manantial;
sus vástagos[v] se extienden sobre el muro.
23 Los arqueros lo atacaron con furor,
lo asaetearon y lo hostigaron;
24 pero su arco permaneció firme(Y)
y sus brazos[w] fueron ágiles(Z)
por las manos del Poderoso de Jacob(AA)
(de allí es el Pastor(AB), la Roca de Israel(AC)),
25 por el Dios de tu padre que te ayuda(AD),
y por el Todopoderoso[x] que te bendice(AE)
con bendiciones de los cielos de arriba,
bendiciones del abismo que está abajo(AF),
bendiciones de los pechos y del seno materno.
26 Las bendiciones de tu padre
han sobrepasado las bendiciones de mis antepasados
hasta el límite de los collados eternos;
sean ellas sobre la cabeza de José,
y sobre la cabeza[y] del consagrado[z] de entre tus hermanos(AG).

27 Benjamín es lobo rapaz[aa];
de mañana devora la presa,
y a la tarde reparte los despojos.

Muerte de Jacob

28 Todas estas son las doce tribus de Israel, y esto es lo que les dijo su padre cuando[ab] los bendijo. A cada uno lo bendijo con la bendición que le correspondía[ac]. 29 Después les ordenó y les dijo: Voy a ser reunido a mi pueblo[ad](AH); sepultadme con mis padres(AI) en la cueva que está en el campo de Efrón hitita(AJ), 30 en la cueva que está en el campo de Macpela, que está frente a Mamre, en la tierra de Canaán, la cual Abraham compró juntamente con el campo de Efrón hitita, para posesión de una sepultura(AK). 31 Allí sepultaron a Abraham(AL) y a su mujer Sara(AM); allí sepultaron a Isaac(AN) y a su mujer Rebeca, y allí sepulté yo a Lea. 32 El campo y la cueva que hay en él, fueron comprados de los hijos de Het. 33 Cuando Jacob terminó de encargar estas cosas a sus hijos, recogió sus pies en la cama y expiró(AO), y fue reunido a su pueblo[ae](AP).

49 야곱이 아들들을 불러 말하였다. “모두들 가까이 모여라. 앞으로 너희에게 일어날 일들을 말해 주마.

2 야곱의 아들들아, 모여서 들어라.
너희 아버지 이스라엘의 말에 귀를 기울여라.

3 르우벤아, 너는 나의 맏아들이요
나의 힘, 나의 정력의 첫 열매라
너의 영예는 드높고
너의 세력 또한 으뜸이구나.
4 그러나 너는 사나운 파도와 같아
끝내 으뜸이 되지는 못할 것이다.
네가 아버지의 침상에 올라가
아버지의 침상을 더럽혔기 때문이다[a].

5 시므온과 레위는 단짝 형제.
그들의 칼은 폭력을 휘두르는 무기이다.
6 그들은 화난다고 사람을 죽이고
재미 삼아 황소 다리의 힘줄을 끊는 녀석들이니
나는 그들의 모의에 끼어들지 않으며
그들이 모이는 자리에 참석하지 않을 것이다.
7 그렇게도 맹렬한 그들의 분노와
그렇게도 잔인한 그들의 격노에 저주가 있으라.
내가 그들을 야곱의 자손 가운데 뿔뿔이 흩어지게 하고
이스라엘 백성 가운데 산산이 흩어 버릴 것이다.

8 유다[b]야, 네 형제들이 너를 찬양할 것이다.
네 손은 원수들의 목을 움켜 잡을 것이며
네 아비의 자식들이 네 앞에 엎드려 절할 것이다.
9 오 유다야, 너는 사자 새끼
내 아들아, 너는 짐승을 덮쳐 뜯어 먹고 자란다.
그는 배를 깔고 누운 사자와 같으니
누가 감히 그를 깨우랴.
10 왕의 홀[c]이 유다를 떠나지 않으며,
통치자의 지팡이가 그의 두 발 사이를 떠나지 않을 것이다.
사람들이 그에게 조공을 바칠 것이며[d]
만민이 그에게 복종할 것이다.
11 그는 예사로 포도나무에 나귀를 매고
예사로 가장 좋은 가지에 나귀새끼를 맬 것이다.
그는 포도주로 옷을 빨고
포도의 붉은 즙으로 겉옷까지 빨 것이다.
12 그의 두 눈은 포도주 빛보다 더 진하고
그의 이는 우유 빛보다 더 흴 것이다.

13 스불론은 바닷가에 살며
배들이 찾아 드는 항구가 되고
그의 영토는 시돈에 이를 것이다.

14 잇사갈은 무거운 짐을 진 채 웅크리고 앉은 힘센 나귀와 같다.
15 쉬고 있는 곳이 좋게 보이거나
제 땅이 안락해 보이면
어깨를 들이밀어 짐이나 지고
강제로 시키는 노역도 그냥 받아들일 것이다.

16 단[e]은 이스라엘 어느 집안 못지않게
제 백성을 다스릴 것이다.
17 단은 길가에 숨어 있는 뱀
오솔길에 도사리고 있는 독사라
말발굽을 물어
말 탄 사람이 뒤로 굴러 떨어지게 한다.

18 오, 주님.
내가 주님의 구원을 기다립니다.

19 갓[f]은 침략자 무리의 공격을 받겠으나
오히려 그가 그들의 뒤꿈치를 공격하리라.

20 아셀에게는 먹을 것이 넉넉하리니
임금에게 걸맞은 산해진미를 바칠 것이다.

21 납달리는 풀어 놓은 암사슴
아름다운 새끼들을 낳는다.

22 요셉은 열매가 주렁주렁한 포도넝쿨
샘가에서 자라 열매가 주렁주렁한 포도넝쿨
그 가지들이 담 너머까지 기어오른다.
23 활 쏘는 이들이 독한 마음으로 그를 공격하였다.
그들이 그를 적으로 삼아 화살을 퍼부었다.
24 그러나 그의 활은 흔들림이 없었고
그의 힘센 팔은 얼어붙지 않았다.
야곱을 지켜주시는 강한 분의 손
이스라엘의 반석이시며 목자이신 분
25 너를 도우시는 네 아버지의 하나님
네게 복 주시는 전능하신 하나님 때문이다.
그분께서는 너에게
위로 하늘에서 내리는 복과
저 아래 깊은 곳에서 솟아오르는 복과
젖가슴과 자궁에 흐르는 복을 주신다.
26 네 아버지가 너를 위해 비는 복은
태고의 산맥에서 흘러내리는 복보다 크고
영원한 언덕에서 쏟아지는 선물보다 크다.
이 모든 복이 요셉의 머리 위에
형제들 가운데서 뛰어난 네 머리 위에 내리기를 빈다.

27 베냐민은 굶주린 늑대.
아침에는 사냥한 것을 삼키고
저녁에는 약탈한 것을 나누어 먹는다.”

28 이들이 모두 이스라엘의 열두 가문이다. 이것은 그들의 아버지가 그들에게 복을 빌어 줄 때에 한 말이다. 그는 아들 하나하나에게 알맞은 복을 빌어 주었다.

야곱이 죽다

29 야곱이 아들들에게 말하였다. “나는 내 조상들에게 돌아가려 한다. 내가 죽거든 조상들이 묻힌 헷 사람 에브론의 밭에 있는 동굴에 나를 묻어 다오. 30 그 동굴은 가나안 땅 마므레 근처인 막벨라의 밭에 있다. 아브라함 어른께서 무덤으로 쓰시려고 그 밭을 헷 사람 에브론에게서 사셨다. 31 아브라함과 그분의 아내 사라께서 거기에 묻혀 있다. 그리고 이삭과 그분의 아내 리브가께서도 거기에 묻혀 있다. 나도 레아를 거기에 묻었다. 32 그 밭과 거기 있는 동굴은 헷 사람에게서 산 것이다.” 33 야곱은 아들들에게 이렇게 이르고 나서 두 발을 침대로 끌어올린 다음 숨을 거두고 조상에게 돌아갔다.

Jacob Blesses His Sons(A)

49 Then Jacob called for his sons and said: “Gather around so I can tell you what will happen to you in days to come.(B)

2 “Assemble(C) and listen, sons of Jacob;
    listen to your father Israel.(D)

3 “Reuben, you are my firstborn,(E)
    my might, the first sign of my strength,(F)
    excelling in honor,(G) excelling in power.
4 Turbulent as the waters,(H) you will no longer excel,
    for you went up onto your father’s bed,
    onto my couch and defiled it.(I)

5 “Simeon(J) and Levi(K) are brothers—
    their swords[a] are weapons of violence.(L)
6 Let me not enter their council,
    let me not join their assembly,(M)
for they have killed men in their anger(N)
    and hamstrung(O) oxen as they pleased.
7 Cursed be their anger, so fierce,
    and their fury,(P) so cruel!(Q)
I will scatter them in Jacob
    and disperse them in Israel.(R)

8 “Judah,[b](S) your brothers will praise you;
    your hand will be on the neck(T) of your enemies;
    your father’s sons will bow down to you.(U)
9 You are a lion’s(V) cub,(W) Judah;(X)
    you return from the prey,(Y) my son.
Like a lion he crouches and lies down,
    like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
10 The scepter will not depart from Judah,(Z)
    nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet,[c]
until he to whom it belongs[d] shall come(AA)
    and the obedience of the nations shall be his.(AB)
11 He will tether his donkey(AC) to a vine,
    his colt to the choicest branch;(AD)
he will wash his garments in wine,
    his robes in the blood of grapes.(AE)
12 His eyes will be darker than wine,
    his teeth whiter than milk.[e](AF)

13 “Zebulun(AG) will live by the seashore
    and become a haven for ships;
    his border will extend toward Sidon.(AH)

14 “Issachar(AI) is a rawboned[f] donkey
    lying down among the sheep pens.[g](AJ)
15 When he sees how good is his resting place
    and how pleasant is his land,(AK)
he will bend his shoulder to the burden(AL)
    and submit to forced labor.(AM)

16 “Dan[h](AN) will provide justice for his people
    as one of the tribes of Israel.(AO)
17 Dan(AP) will be a snake by the roadside,
    a viper along the path,(AQ)
that bites the horse’s heels(AR)
    so that its rider tumbles backward.

18 “I look for your deliverance,(AS) Lord.(AT)

19 “Gad[i](AU) will be attacked by a band of raiders,
    but he will attack them at their heels.(AV)

20 “Asher’s(AW) food will be rich;(AX)
    he will provide delicacies fit for a king.(AY)

21 “Naphtali(AZ) is a doe set free
    that bears beautiful fawns.[j](BA)

22 “Joseph(BB) is a fruitful vine,(BC)
    a fruitful vine near a spring,
    whose branches(BD) climb over a wall.[k]
23 With bitterness archers attacked him;(BE)
    they shot at him with hostility.(BF)
24 But his bow remained steady,(BG)
    his strong arms(BH) stayed[l] limber,
because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob,(BI)
    because of the Shepherd,(BJ) the Rock of Israel,(BK)
25 because of your father’s God,(BL) who helps(BM) you,
    because of the Almighty,[m](BN) who blesses you
with blessings of the skies above,
    blessings of the deep springs below,(BO)
    blessings of the breast(BP) and womb.(BQ)
26 Your father’s blessings are greater
    than the blessings of the ancient mountains,
    than[n] the bounty of the age-old hills.(BR)
Let all these rest on the head of Joseph,(BS)
    on the brow of the prince among[o] his brothers.(BT)

27 “Benjamin(BU) is a ravenous wolf;(BV)
    in the morning he devours the prey,(BW)
    in the evening he divides the plunder.”(BX)

28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel,(BY) and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing(BZ) appropriate to him.

The Death of Jacob

29 Then he gave them these instructions:(CA) “I am about to be gathered to my people.(CB) Bury me with my fathers(CC) in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite,(CD) 30 the cave in the field of Machpelah,(CE) near Mamre(CF) in Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field(CG) as a burial place(CH) from Ephron the Hittite. 31 There Abraham(CI) and his wife Sarah(CJ) were buried, there Isaac and his wife Rebekah(CK) were buried, and there I buried Leah.(CL) 32 The field and the cave in it were bought from the Hittites.[p](CM)”

33 When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last and was gathered to his people.(CN)
