33 Y ALZANDO Jacob sus ojos miró, y he aquí venía Esaú, y los cuatrocientos hombres con él: entonces repartió él los niños entre Lea y Rachêl y las dos siervas.
2 Y puso las siervas y sus niños delante; luego á Lea y á sus niños; y á Rachêl y á José los postreros.
3 Y él pasó delante de ellos, é inclinóse á tierra siete veces, hasta que llegó á su hermano.
4 Y Esaú corrió á su encuentro, y abrazóle, y echóse sobre su cuello, y le besó; y lloraron.
5 Y alzó sus ojos, y vió las mujeres y los niños, y dijo: ¿Qué te tocan éstos? Y él respondió: Son los niños que Dios ha dado á tu siervo.
6 Y se llegaron las siervas, ellas y sus niños, é inclináronse.
7 Y llegóse Lea con sus niños, é inclináronse: y después llegó José y Rachêl, y también se inclinaron.
8 Y él dijo: ¿Qué te propones con todas estas cuadrillas que he encontrado? Y él respondió: El hallar gracia en los ojos de mi señor.
9 Y dijo Esaú: Harto tengo yo, hermano mío: sea para ti lo que es tuyo.
10 Y dijo Jacob: No, yo te ruego, si he hallado ahora gracia en tus ojos, toma mi presente de mi mano, pues que así he visto tu rostro, como si hubiera visto el rostro de Dios; y hazme placer.
11 Toma, te ruego, mi dádiva que te es traída; porque Dios me ha hecho merced, y todo lo que hay aquí es mío. Y porfió con él, y tomóla.
12 Y dijo: Anda, y vamos; y yo iré delante de ti.
13 Y él le dijo: Mi señor sabe que los niños son tiernos, y que tengo ovejas y vacas paridas; y si las fatigan, en un día morirán todas las ovejas.
14 Pase ahora mi señor delante de su siervo, y yo me iré poco á poco al paso de la hacienda que va delante de mí, y al paso de los niños, hasta que llegue á mi señor á Seir.
15 Y Esaú dijo: Dejaré ahora contigo de la gente que viene conmigo. Y él dijo: ¿Para qué esto? halle yo gracia en los ojos de mi señor.
16 Así se volvió Esaú aquel día por su camino á Seir.
17 Y Jacob se partió á Succoth, y edificó allí casa para sí, é hizo cabañas para su ganado: por tanto llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Succoth.
18 Y vino Jacob sano á la ciudad de Sichêm, que está en la tierra de Canaán, cuando venía de Padan-aram; y acampó delante de la ciudad.
19 Y compró una parte del campo, donde tendió su tienda, de mano de los hijos de Hamor, padre de Sichêm, por cien piezas de moneda.
20 Y erigió allí un altar, y llamóle: El Dios de Israel.

Jacob y Esaú se reconcilian
33 Cuando Jacob vio que Esaú venía acompañado de cuatrocientos hombres, repartió a los niños entre Lía, Raquel y las dos esclavas. 2 Colocó primero a las esclavas con sus hijos, luego a Lía con sus hijos, y por último a Raquel y José. 3 Luego se adelantó a ellos, y se inclinó hasta tocar el suelo con la frente siete veces, hasta que estuvo cerca de su hermano. 4 Pero Esaú corrió a su encuentro y, echándole los brazos al cuello, lo abrazó y lo besó. Los dos lloraron. 5 Después Esaú se fijó en las mujeres y en los niños, y preguntó:
—Y éstos, ¿quiénes son?
—Son los hijos que Dios le ha dado a tu servidor —dijo Jacob.
6 Entonces las esclavas y sus hijos se acercaron y se inclinaron hasta tocar el suelo con la frente; 7 luego se acercaron Lía y sus hijos, y se inclinaron de la misma manera, y por último se acercaron José y Raquel, y también se inclinaron. 8 De pronto Esaú preguntó:
—¿Qué piensas hacer con todas esas manadas que he venido encontrando?
—Ganarme tu buena voluntad —respondió Jacob.
9 —No, hermano mío; yo tengo suficiente. Quédate con lo que es tuyo —dijo Esaú.
10 Pero Jacob insistió:
—No, por favor. Si me he ganado tu buena voluntad, acepta este regalo, pues verte en persona es como ver a Dios mismo, ya que tú me has recibido muy bien. 11 Te ruego que aceptes el regalo que te he traído, pues Dios me ha hecho rico, y nada me falta.
Tanto insistió Jacob, que al fin Esaú aceptó el regalo; 12 pero dijo:
—Bueno, vámonos de aquí. Yo iré delante de ti.
13 Y Jacob respondió:
—Querido hermano, tú sabes que los niños son débiles, y que debo pensar en las ovejas y en las vacas con cría; si se les cansa, en un solo día pueden morir todas las ovejas. 14 Es mejor que tú te adelantes a este servidor tuyo; yo iré poco a poco, al paso de los animales que van delante de mí, y al paso de los niños, hasta reunirme contigo en Seír.
15 —Bueno —dijo Esaú—, permíteme dejarte algunos hombres de los que vienen conmigo.
Pero Jacob contestó:
—¡No, por favor! ¿Para qué te molestas?
16 Ese mismo día, Esaú regresó a Seír. 17 Jacob, en cambio, se fue a Sucot, y allí hizo una casa para él y unas enramadas para sus animales. Por eso, a aquel lugar lo llamó Sucot.
18 Cuando Jacob vino de Padán-aram, llegó sano y salvo a Canaán y acampó frente a la ciudad de Siquem. 19 Por cien monedas compró un terreno a los hijos de Hamor, el padre de Siquem, y allí puso su campamento. 20 Después construyó un altar, y lo llamó El-elohé-israel.

Jacob and Esau Meet
33 Now Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and there, (A)Esau was coming, and with him were four hundred men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two maidservants. 2 And he put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last. 3 Then he crossed over before them and (B)bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4 (C)But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, (D)and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept. 5 And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and children, and said, “Who are these with you?”
So he said, “The children (E)whom God has graciously given your servant.” 6 Then the maidservants came near, they and their children, and bowed down. 7 And Leah also came near with her children, and they bowed down. Afterward Joseph and Rachel came near, and they bowed down.
8 Then Esau said, “What do you mean by (F)all this company which I met?”
And he said, “These are (G)to find favor in the sight of my lord.”
9 But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.”
10 And Jacob said, “No, please, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present from my hand, inasmuch as I (H)have seen your face as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me. 11 Please, take (I)my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt (J)graciously with me, and because I have [a]enough.” (K)So he urged him, and he took it.
12 Then Esau said, “Let us take our journey; let us go, and I will go before you.”
13 But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are weak, and the flocks and herds which are nursing are with me. And if the men should drive them hard one day, all the flock will die. 14 Please let my lord go on ahead before his servant. I will lead on slowly at a pace which the livestock that go before me, and the children, [b]are able to endure, until I come to my lord (L)in Seir.”
15 And Esau said, “Now let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.”
But he said, “What need is there? (M)Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.” 16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. 17 And Jacob journeyed to (N)Succoth, built himself a house, and made [c]booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called [d]Succoth.
Jacob Comes to Canaan
18 Then Jacob came [e]safely to (O)the city of (P)Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city. 19 And (Q)he bought the parcel of [f]land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money. 20 Then he erected an altar there and called it (R)El[g] Elohe Israel.
