Jacob suplanta a Esaú
27 Y aconteció que siendo ya viejo Isaac, y sus ojos demasiado débiles para ver(A), llamó a Esaú(B), su hijo mayor, y le dijo: Hijo mío. Y él le respondió: Heme aquí. 2 Y dijo Isaac: Mira, yo soy viejo y no sé el día de mi muerte(C). 3 Ahora pues, te ruego, toma tu equipo, tu aljaba y tu arco, sal al campo y tráeme caza(D); 4 y prepárame un buen guisado[a] como a mí me gusta, y tráemelo para que yo coma, y que mi alma te bendiga antes que yo muera(E).
5 Rebeca estaba escuchando cuando Isaac hablaba a su hijo Esaú. Y cuando Esaú fue al campo a cazar una pieza para traer a casa[b], 6 Rebeca habló a su hijo Jacob, diciendo(F): He aquí, oí a tu padre que hablaba con tu hermano Esaú, diciéndole: 7 «Tráeme caza y prepárame un buen guisado para que coma y te bendiga en presencia del Señor antes de mi muerte». 8 Ahora pues, hijo mío, obedéceme en[c] lo que te mando(G). 9 Ve ahora al rebaño y tráeme[d] de allí dos de los mejores cabritos de las cabras, y yo prepararé con ellos un buen guisado para tu padre como a él le gusta. 10 Entonces se lo llevarás a tu padre, que comerá, para que te bendiga antes de su muerte. 11 Y Jacob dijo a su madre Rebeca: He aquí, Esaú mi hermano es hombre velludo(H) y yo soy lampiño. 12 Quizá mi padre me palpe, y entonces seré para él un engañador[e](I) y traeré sobre mí una maldición y no una bendición. 13 Pero su madre le respondió: Caiga sobre mí tu maldición, hijo mío; solamente obedéceme[f](J), y ve y tráemelos. 14 Y él fue, los tomó y los trajo a su madre; y su madre hizo un buen guisado, como a su padre le gustaba. 15 Entonces Rebeca tomó las mejores[g] vestiduras(K) de Esaú, su hijo mayor, que tenía ella en la casa, y vistió a Jacob, su hijo menor; 16 le puso las pieles de los cabritos[h] sobre las manos y sobre la parte lampiña del cuello, 17 y puso el guisado y el pan que había hecho en manos de su hijo Jacob.
18 Entonces él fue a su padre, y dijo: Padre mío. Y este respondió: Aquí estoy. ¿Quién eres, hijo mío? 19 Y Jacob dijo a su padre: Soy Esaú tu primogénito. He hecho lo que me dijiste. Levántate, te ruego(L). Siéntate y come de mi caza para que me bendigas[i](M). 20 E Isaac dijo a su hijo: ¿Cómo es que la has encontrado tan pronto, hijo mío? Y él respondió: Porque el Señor tu Dios hizo que así me[j] acaeciera(N). 21 Isaac entonces dijo a Jacob: Te ruego que te acerques para palparte(O), hijo mío, a ver si en verdad eres o no mi hijo Esaú. 22 Jacob se acercó a Isaac su padre, y él lo palpó y dijo: La voz es la voz de Jacob, pero las manos son las manos de Esaú. 23 Y no lo reconoció porque sus manos eran velludas como las de su hermano Esaú(P), y lo bendijo. 24 Y le preguntó: ¿Eres en verdad mi hijo Esaú? Y él respondió: Yo soy. 25 Entonces dijo: Sírveme[k], y comeré de la caza de mi hijo para que yo[l] te bendiga(Q). Y le sirvió[m], y comió; le trajo también vino, y bebió. 26 Y su padre Isaac le dijo: Te ruego que te acerques y me beses, hijo mío. 27 Y él se acercó y lo besó; y al notar[n] el olor de sus vestidos, lo bendijo(R), diciendo[o]:
He aquí, el olor(S) de mi hijo
es como el aroma de un campo que el Señor ha bendecido(T).
28 Dios te dé, pues, del rocío del cielo,
y de la grosura de la tierra(U),
y abundancia de grano y de mosto(V).
29 Sírvante pueblos,
y póstrense ante ti naciones(W);
sé señor de tus hermanos(X),
e inclínense ante ti los hijos de tu madre(Y).
Malditos los que te maldigan,
y benditos los que te bendigan(Z).
30 Y sucedió que tan pronto como Isaac había terminado de bendecir a Jacob, y apenas había salido Jacob de la presencia de su padre Isaac, su hermano Esaú llegó de su cacería. 31 Y también él hizo un buen guisado y lo trajo a su padre, y dijo a su padre: Levántese mi padre(AA), y coma de la caza de su hijo, para que tú me bendigas[p](AB). 32 Y su padre Isaac le dijo: ¿Quién eres(AC)? Y él respondió: Soy tu hijo, tu primogénito, Esaú(AD). 33 Y tembló Isaac con estremecimiento muy grande, y dijo: ¿Quién fue entonces el que trajo caza, antes de que tú vinieras, y me la trajo y yo comí de todo, y lo bendije(AE)? Sí, y bendito será(AF). 34 Al oír Esaú las palabras de su padre, clamó con un grande y amargo clamor, y dijo a su padre: ¡Bendíceme, bendíceme también a mí, padre mío(AG)! 35 Y él respondió: Tu hermano vino con engaño, y se ha llevado tu bendición(AH). 36 Y Esaú dijo: Con razón se llama Jacob[q], pues me ha suplantado estas dos veces. Me quitó mi primogenitura(AI), y he aquí, ahora me ha quitado mi bendición. Y añadió: ¿No has reservado una bendición para mí? 37 Pero Isaac respondió, y dijo a Esaú: He aquí, yo lo he puesto por señor tuyo, y le he dado por siervos a todos sus parientes[r]; y con grano y mosto lo he sustentado(AJ). En cuanto a ti ¿qué haré, pues, hijo mío? 38 Y Esaú dijo a su padre: ¿No tienes más que una bendición, padre mío? Bendíceme, bendíceme también a mí, padre mío. Y Esaú alzó su voz y lloró(AK). 39 Entonces su padre Isaac respondió, y le dijo(AL):
He aquí, lejos de[s] la fertilidad[t] de la tierra será tu morada(AM),
y lejos del[u] rocío que baja[v] del cielo.
40 Por tu espada vivirás,
y a tu hermano servirás(AN);
mas acontecerá que cuando te impacientes,
arrancarás su yugo de tu cerviz(AO).
Rencor de Esaú
41 Esaú, pues, guardó rencor a Jacob a causa de la bendición con que su padre lo había bendecido(AP); y Esaú se dijo[w]: Los días de luto por mi padre están cerca(AQ); entonces mataré a mi hermano Jacob. 42 Cuando las palabras de Esaú, su hijo mayor, le fueron comunicadas a Rebeca, envió a llamar a Jacob, su hijo menor, y le dijo: Mira, en cuanto a ti, tu hermano Esaú se consuela con la idea de matarte. 43 Ahora pues, hijo mío, obedece mi voz(AR): levántate y huye[x] a Harán(AS), a casa de mi hermano Labán(AT). 44 Y quédate con él algunos días(AU) hasta que se calme[y] el furor de tu hermano; 45 hasta que la ira de tu hermano contra ti se calme[z], y olvide lo que le hiciste(AV). Entonces enviaré y te traeré de allá. ¿Por qué he de sufrir la pérdida de vosotros dos en un mismo día?
46 Y Rebeca dijo a Isaac: Estoy cansada de vivir[aa] a causa de las hijas de Het(AW); si Jacob toma mujer de las hijas de Het, como estas, de las hijas de esta[ab] tierra, ¿para qué me servirá la vida(AX)?

27 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.
2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;
4 And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.
5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.
6 And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,
7 Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the Lord before my death.
8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:
10 And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.
11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:
12 My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
13 And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.
14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.
15 And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
17 And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
18 And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?
19 And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy first born; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
20 And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the Lord thy God brought it to me.
21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
24 And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.
25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine and he drank.
26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.
27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed:
28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.
30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
31 And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.
32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.
33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.
35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.
36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;
40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.
41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.
43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;
44 And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother's fury turn away;
45 Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?
46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?

Isaac Blesses Jacob
27 When Isaac was old and (A)his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called Esau his older son and said to him, “My son”; and he answered, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Behold, I am old; I do not know the day of my death. 3 (B)Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me, 4 and prepare for me delicious food, such as I love, and bring it to me so that I may eat, that my soul (C)may bless you before I die.”
5 Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game and bring it, 6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, 7 ‘Bring me game and prepare for me delicious food, that I may eat it and bless you before the Lord before I die.’ 8 Now therefore, my son, (D)obey my voice as I command you. 9 Go to the flock and bring me two good young goats, so that I may prepare from them delicious food for your father, such as he loves. 10 And you shall bring it to your father to eat, (E)so that he may bless you before he dies.” 11 But Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Behold, (F)my brother Esau is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. 12 Perhaps my father (G)will feel me, and I shall seem to be mocking him and bring (H)a curse upon myself and not a blessing.” 13 His mother said to him, (I)“Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, bring them to me.”
14 So he went and took them and brought them to his mother, and his mother prepared delicious food, such as his father loved. 15 Then Rebekah took the (J)best garments of Esau her older son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son. 16 And the skins of the young goats she put on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck. 17 And she put the delicious food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
18 So he went in to his father and said, “My father.” And he said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?” 19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me; now sit up and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me.” 20 But Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” He answered, “Because the Lord your God granted me success.” 21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I (K)may feel you, my son, to know whether you are really my son Esau or not.” 22 So Jacob went near to Isaac his father, who felt him and said, “The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.” 23 And he did not recognize him, because (L)his hands were hairy like his brother Esau's hands. (M)So he blessed him. 24 He said, “Are you really my son Esau?” He answered, “I am.” 25 Then he said, “Bring it near to me, (N)that I may eat of my son's game and bless you.” So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.
26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come near and kiss me, my son.” 27 So he came near and kissed him. And Isaac smelled the smell of his garments (O)and blessed him and said,
“See, (P)the smell of my son
is as the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed!
28 May God give you of (Q)the dew of heaven
and of the fatness of the earth
and (R)plenty of grain and wine.
29 Let peoples serve you,
and nations (S)bow down to you.
(T)Be lord over your brothers,
and may your mother's sons bow down to you.
(U)Cursed be everyone who curses you,
and blessed be everyone who blesses you!”
30 As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, when Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, Esau his brother came in from his hunting. 31 He also prepared delicious food and brought it to his father. And he said to his father, “Let my father arise and eat of his son's game, that you may bless me.” 32 His father Isaac said to him, “Who are you?” He answered, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.” 33 Then Isaac trembled very violently and said, “Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I have blessed him? Yes, and he shall be blessed.” 34 As soon as Esau heard the words of his father, (V)he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me, even me also, O my father!” 35 But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully, and he has taken away your blessing.” 36 Esau said, (W)“Is he not rightly named Jacob?[a] For he has cheated me these two times. (X)He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing.” Then he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?” 37 Isaac answered and said to Esau, “Behold, (Y)I have made him lord over you, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants, and (Z)with grain and wine I have sustained him. What then can I do for you, my son?” 38 Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father.” And (AA)Esau lifted up his voice and wept.
39 Then Isaac his father answered and said to him:
“Behold, (AB)away from[b] the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be,
and away from[c] the dew of heaven on high.
40 By your sword you shall live,
and you (AC)shall serve your brother;
but when you grow restless
(AD)you shall break his yoke from your neck.”
41 Now Esau (AE)hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him, and Esau said to himself, (AF)“The days of mourning for my father are approaching; (AG)then I will kill my brother Jacob.” 42 But the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son and said to him, “Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you. 43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban my brother in Haran 44 and stay with him a while, until your brother's fury turns away— 45 until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereft of you both in one day?”
46 Then Rebekah said to Isaac, (AH)“I loathe my life because of the Hittite women.[d] (AI)If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women like these, one of the women of the land, what good will my life be to me?”

27 Un día, cuando Isaac ya era anciano y sus ojos se le habían nublado hasta perder la vista, llamó a Esaú, su hijo mayor, y le dijo:
«¡Hijo mío!»
Y Esaú respondió:
«¡Aquí estoy!»
2 Isaac le dijo:
«Mira, ya soy viejo, y puedo morir en cualquier momento. 3 Así que toma tus armas, es decir, tu aljaba y tu arco, y ve al campo y caza algo para mí; 4 hazme luego un guisado, como a mí me gusta, y tráemelo para que lo coma. Así, yo te bendeciré antes de que muera.»
5 Mientras Isaac hablaba con su hijo Esaú, Rebeca escuchaba. Y Esaú se fue al campo para cazar algo y traerlo. 6 Entonces Rebeca fue a hablar con su hijo Jacob, y le dijo:
«Acabo de oír a tu padre hablar con tu hermano Esaú. Le dijo: 7 “Caza algo, y tráemelo; hazme un guisado, para que yo lo coma y ante el Señor te bendiga antes de que muera.” 8 Así que, hijo mío, escúchame y haz lo que voy a ordenarte: 9 Ve al ganado ahora mismo, y de entre las cabras tráeme de allí dos buenos cabritos. Con ellos haré para tu padre un guiso, como a él le gusta. 10 Luego tú se lo llevarás a tu padre, para que él coma y te bendiga antes de que muera.»
11 Pero Jacob le dijo a su madre:
«Si te fijas, mi hermano Esaú es muy velludo, pero yo soy lampiño. 12 Puede ser que mi padre me palpe; entonces creerá que me estoy burlando de él, y en vez de bendición recibiré maldición.»
13 Y su madre le respondió:
«Hijo mío, ¡que caiga sobre mí tu maldición! Tú, hazme caso y ve a traerme los cabritos.»
14 Jacob fue por los cabritos, y se los llevó a su madre; y ella hizo un guisado, como le gustaba a Isaac. 15 Luego, tomó Rebeca la ropa de Esaú, su hijo mayor, la mejor ropa que ella tenía en casa, y con ella vistió a Jacob, su hijo menor; 16 además, con la piel de los cabritos le cubrió las manos y la parte del cuello donde no tenía vello, 17 y puso en las manos de Jacob, su hijo, el guisado y el pan que ella había preparado.
18 Entonces Jacob fue a ver a su padre, y le dijo:
«¡Padre mío!»
Isaac respondió:
«Aquí estoy. ¿Quién eres tú, hijo mío?»
19 Jacob le dijo a su padre:
«Soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito. Ya hice lo que me pediste. Así que ven y siéntate a comer de lo que he cazado, para que me bendigas.»
20 Isaac le dijo a su hijo:
«¿Cómo fue que tan pronto hallaste algo que cazar, hijo mío?»
Y él respondió:
«Es porque el Señor, tu Dios, me permitió encontrarlo.»
21 Isaac le dijo a Jacob:
«Acércate, hijo mío, que voy a palparte para saber si eres mi hijo Esaú, o no.»
22 Jacob se acercó a Isaac, su padre, y éste lo palpó y dijo:
«La voz es la de Jacob, pero las manos son las de Esaú.»
23 Y no lo reconoció, pues tenía las manos velludas como las de Esaú, así que lo bendijo, 24 aunque le preguntó:
«¿Eres tú mi hijo Esaú?»
Y Jacob respondió:
«Sí, yo soy.»
25 Dijo también Isaac:
«Acércame lo que cazaste, hijo mío, para que yo coma y luego te bendiga.»
Y Jacob le acercó el guiso, y además le llevó vino, e Isaac comió y bebió. 26 Entonces Isaac le dijo:
«Ahora, hijo mío, acércate y dame un beso.»
27 Jacob se acercó y lo besó. Cuando Isaac percibió el olor de su ropa, lo bendijo así:
«¡Fíjense en el aroma de mi hijo!
¡Es como el aroma del campo que el Señor ha bendecido!
28 ¡Que Dios te dé del rocío del cielo
y de las grosuras de la tierra!
¡Que te dé abundante trigo y vino!
29 ¡Que te sirvan los pueblos!
¡Que las naciones se inclinen ante ti!
¡Conviértete en señor de tus hermanos,
y que ante ti se inclinen los hijos de tu madre!
¡Malditos sean los que te maldigan,

30 Pero sucedió que, cuando Isaac acabó de bendecir a Jacob, y apenas había salido Jacob de la presencia de su padre, su hermano Esaú volvió de andar cazando. 31 También él hizo un guisado, y se lo llevó a su padre y le dijo:
«Levántate, padre mío, y come de lo que tu hijo ha cazado, para que me bendigas.»
32 Isaac, su padre, le dijo:
«¿Y tú quién eres?»
Y él le contestó:
«Pues soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito.»
33 A Isaac le sobrevino un gran estremecimiento, y dijo:
«¿Y quién es el que vino aquí, y trajo lo que cazó, y me dio a comer de todo ello antes de que tú vinieras? Yo le di mi bendición, y ha quedado bendito.»
34 Cuando Esaú oyó las palabras de su padre, lanzó una grande y amarga exclamación, y dijo:
«¡Bendíceme también a mí, padre mío!»
35 Isaac dijo:
«Es que vino tu hermano, y con engaños tomó tu bendición.»
36 Y Esaú respondió:
«¡Qué bien le queda el nombre Jacob! ¡Ya me ha suplantado dos veces! ¡Primero me arrebató mi primogenitura,(C) y ahora me ha arrebatado mi bendición!»
Y añadió:
«¿No has reservado una bendición para mí?»
37 Isaac le respondió a Esaú:
«Es que yo lo he puesto como señor tuyo, y le he entregado a todos sus hermanos para que sean sus siervos; además, lo he provisto de trigo y de vino; ¿qué puedo hacer ahora por ti, hijo mío?»
38 Esaú respondió a su padre:
«Padre mío, ¿acaso no tienes más que una sola bendición? ¡Bendíceme también a mí, padre mío!»
Y levantó Esaú el tono de su voz, y lloró.(D) 39 Entonces Isaac, su padre, le respondió así:
«Tendrás tu habitación en lo mejor de la tierra,
y gozarás del rocío de los cielos de arriba.
40 Vivirás gracias a tu espada, y servirás a tu hermano;
y una vez que te hayas fortalecido
te quitarás del cuello su yugo.»(E)(F)
Jacob huye de Esaú
41 Esaú llegó a odiar a Jacob por causa de la bendición que había recibido de su padre, y dijo en su corazón: «Ya están cerca los días de guardar luto por mi padre. Entonces mataré a mi hermano Jacob.»
42 Cuando llegaron a oídos de Rebeca estas palabras de Esaú, su hijo mayor, ella mandó llamar a Jacob, su hijo menor, y le dijo:
«Mira, tu hermano Esaú halla consuelo cuando piensa en matarte. 43 Así que hazme caso, hijo mío, y prepárate a huir a la casa de mi hermano Labán, que vive en Jarán. 44 Quédate a vivir con él por algún tiempo, hasta que se calme el enojo de tu hermano. 45 Cuando se haya aplacado la ira de tu hermano contra ti, y olvide lo que le has hecho, yo te haré volver de allá. ¿Por qué voy a perderlos a ustedes dos en un solo día?»
46 A Isaac, Rebeca le dijo:
«Mi vida es un fastidio, por culpa de las hititas que viven en esta tierra. Si Jacob toma como mujer a alguna de estas hititas, ¿para qué quiero seguir viviendo?»

27 Now it was when Isaac grew old and his eyes were too dim to see, that he called Esau his elder son, and said to him, “My son.”
“Here I am,” he said to him.
2 “Look, I’m old,” he said. “I don’t know the day of my death. 3 So now, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt me some game. 4 Then prepare me a delicious meal that I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, so that my soul may bless you before I die.”
5 Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac was speaking to Esau his son. So while Esau went to the field to hunt game to bring in, 6 Rebekah said to Jacob her son, “Look, I heard your father speaking to your brother Esau saying, 7 ‘Bring me some game and prepare me a delicious meal that I may eat and bless you in Adonai’s presence before my death.’ 8 So now, my son, listen to my voice, to what I am commanding you. 9 Go now to the flock and bring me two good young goats from there, so that I may prepare them as a delicious meal for your father—that he’ll love. 10 Then you’ll bring it to your father to eat, so that he may bless you before his death.”
11 But Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Look, my brother Esau is a hairy man, but I’m a smooth man. 12 Perhaps my father will touch me, and he’ll take me for a mocker, and I’ll bring upon myself a curse and not a blessing.”
13 Then his mother said to him, “Let your curse fall on me, my son. Just listen to me, and go, get them for me.”
14 So he went and got them, and brought them to his mother, and his mother prepared a delicious meal that his father would love. 15 Rebekah also took her elder son Esau’s favorite clothes that were with her in the house, and she put them on her younger son Jacob, 16 along with the skins of the young goats on his hands and on the hairless part of his neck. 17 She put the delicious meal and the bread that she had prepared in the hand of Jacob her son.
18 Then he came to his father and said, “My father.”
And he said, “I’m here. Who are you, my son?”
19 Then Jacob said to his father, “I’m your firstborn, Esau. I’ve done just what you said to me. Sit up, please, and eat some of my wild game so that your soul may bless me.”
20 Then Isaac said to his son, “How in the world were you able to find it so quickly, my son?”
He said, “Because Adonai your God made it happen for me.”
21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come closer so I can feel you my son—whether or not you really are my son Esau.”
22 So Jacob came closer to his father Isaac, and he felt him. Then he said, “The voice is Jacob’s voice but the hands are Esau’s hands.” 23 He did not recognize him because his hands were like the hairy hands of his brother Esau. So he blessed him. 24 But he said, “Are you really my son Esau?”
So he said, “I am.”
25 Then he said, “Bring it to me and I’ll eat some of my son’s wild game, so that my soul may bless you.” So he brought it to him and he ate, and he brought him wine and he drank.
26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Please come closer and kiss me my son.” 27 So he came closer and kissed him. When he smelled the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said,
“Behold, the smell of my son
is like the smell of a field
that Adonai has blessed.
28 May God give you—
from the dew of the sky
and from the fatness of the land—
an abundance of grain and new wine.
29 May peoples serve you
and may nations bow down to you.
Be master over your brothers.
May your mother’s sons bow down to you.
May those who curse you be cursed
and may those who bless you be blessed.”
30 No sooner had Isaac finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had just gone out from his father Isaac’s presence, than Esau his brother came in from his hunting. 31 Then he also prepared a delicious meal and brought it to his father, and he said to his father, “Let my father get up and eat of his son’s wild game that your soul may bless me.”
32 His father Isaac said, “Who are you?”
And he said, “I am your son, your first-born, Esau.”
33 Then Isaac trembled with intense trembling and said, “Who was it then that hunted wild game and brought it to me? I ate it all just before you came and I blessed him—and yes, he will be blessed.”
34 When Esau heard his father’s words, he shouted with an intensely bitter groan. Then he said to his father, “Bless me, me too, my father!”
35 Then he said, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”
36 He said, “Is this why he was named Jacob—since he’s tricked me twice already? My birthright he’s taken. Look! Now he’s taken my blessing!” Then he said, “Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?”
37 Isaac answered and said to Esau, “Behold, I’ve made him master over you, and all your brothers I’ve given to him as servants. I’ve provided him with grain and new wine. What then can I do for you, my son?”
38 Esau said to his father, “Do you just have one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.
39 Then Isaac his father said to him,
“Behold, away from the land’s fatness shall your dwelling be,
away from the dew of the sky above.
40 By your sword shall you live,
and your brother shall you serve.
But when you tear yourself loose,
you will tear his yoke off your neck.”
41 So Esau bore a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, “Let the time for mourning my father draw near, so that I can kill my brother Jacob!”
42 Now to Rebekah was reported the words of Esau her elder son. So she sent and called for Jacob her younger son, and said to him, “Look, your brother Esau is consoling himself about you with the thought of killing you. 43 So now my son, listen to my voice. Get up—flee to Laban my brother in Haran! 44 Then stay with him a few days, until your brother’s rage subsides, 45 until your brother’s rage turns away from you and he forgets what you’ve done to him. Then I’ll send for you and get you back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?”
46 Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I’m disgusted with my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife from the daughters of Heth like these women, from the daughters of the land what is life to me?”
