Descendientes de Abraham y Cetura
25 (A)Abraham volvió a tomar mujer, y su nombre era Cetura. 2 Y ella le dio a luz a Zimram, a Jocsán, a Medán, a Madián, a Isbac y a Súa. 3 Jocsán engendró a Seba y a Dedán. Y los hijos de Dedán fueron Asurim, Letusim y Leumim. 4 Y los hijos de Madián fueron Efa, Efer, Hanoc, Abida y Elda. Todos estos fueron los hijos de Cetura. 5 Abraham dio a Isaac todo lo que poseía(B); 6 y a los hijos de sus concubinas[a] Abraham les dio regalos, viviendo aún él, y los envió lejos(C) de su hijo Isaac hacia el este, a la tierra del oriente.
Muerte y sepultura de Abraham
7 Estos fueron los años[b] de la vida de Abraham: ciento setenta y cinco años(D). 8 Abraham expiró, y murió en buena vejez(E), anciano y lleno de días, y fue reunido a su pueblo[c](F). 9 Y sus hijos Isaac e Ismael lo sepultaron en la cueva de Macpela, en el campo de Efrón, hijo de Zohar hitita, que está frente a Mamre(G), 10 el campo que Abraham compró a los hijos de Het(H); allí fue sepultado Abraham con Sara su mujer. 11 Y sucedió que después de la muerte de Abraham, Dios bendijo a su hijo Isaac(I). Descendientes de Ismael
12 (K)Estas son las generaciones de Ismael, hijo de Abraham, el que Agar la egipcia, sierva de Sara, le dio a luz a Abraham(L); 13 y estos son los nombres de los hijos de Ismael(M), nombrados por el orden de su nacimiento: el primogénito de Ismael, Nebaiot, después, Cedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 14 Misma, Duma, Massa, 15 Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Nafis y Cedema. 16 Estos son los hijos de Ismael, y estos sus nombres, por sus aldeas y por sus campamentos, doce príncipes(N) según sus tribus[e]. 17 Estos fueron los años de la vida de Ismael: ciento treinta y siete años(O); y expiró y murió, y fue reunido a su pueblo[f](P). 18 Y habitó[g] desde Havila(Q) hasta Shur(R), que está enfrente de Egipto, según se va hacia Asiria; se estableció allí frente a[h] todos sus parientes[i](S).
Nacimiento de Esaú y de Jacob
19 Estas son las generaciones de Isaac, hijo de Abraham: Abraham engendró a Isaac(T). 20 Tenía Isaac cuarenta años cuando tomó por mujer a Rebeca(U), hija de Betuel(V), arameo de Padán-aram, hermana de Labán(W) arameo. 21 Y oró Isaac al Señor en favor de su mujer, porque ella era estéril; y lo escuchó el Señor(X), y Rebeca su mujer concibió(Y). 22 Y los hijos luchaban dentro de ella; y ella dijo: Si esto es así, ¿para qué vivo yo? Y fue a consultar al Señor(Z). 23 Y el Señor le dijo:
Dos naciones hay en tu seno(AA),
y dos pueblos se dividirán desde tus entrañas;
un pueblo será más fuerte que el otro(AB),
y el mayor servirá al menor(AC).
24 Y cuando se cumplieron los días de dar a luz, he aquí, había mellizos en su seno. 25 Salió el primero rojizo[j], todo velludo como una pelliza, y lo llamaron Esaú[k](AD). 26 Y después salió su hermano, con su mano asida al talón de Esaú(AE), y lo llamaron Jacob[l](AF). Isaac tenía sesenta años(AG) cuando ella los dio a luz.
Esaú vende su primogenitura
27 Los niños crecieron, y Esaú llegó a ser diestro cazador, hombre del campo; pero Jacob era hombre pacífico[m], que habitaba en tiendas(AH). 28 Y amaba Isaac a Esaú porque le gustaba lo que cazaba[n](AI), pero Rebeca amaba a Jacob(AJ). 29 Un día, cuando Jacob había preparado un potaje(AK), Esaú vino del campo, agotado; 30 y Esaú dijo a Jacob: Te ruego que me des a comer un poco de ese guisado rojo[o], pues estoy agotado. Por eso lo llamaron Edom[p]. 31 Pero Jacob le dijo: Véndeme primero[q] tu primogenitura(AL). 32 Y Esaú dijo: He aquí, estoy a punto de morir; ¿de qué me sirve, pues, la primogenitura? 33 Y Jacob dijo: Júramelo primero[r]; y él se lo juró, y vendió su primogenitura a Jacob(AM). 34 Entonces Jacob dio a Esaú pan y guisado de lentejas; y él comió y bebió, se levantó y se fue. Así menospreció Esaú la primogenitura.

Abraham's Death and His Descendants
25 Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. 2 (A)She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. 3 Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim. 4 The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah. 5 (B)Abraham gave all he had to Isaac. 6 But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts, and while he was still living he (C)sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward (D)to the east country.
7 These are the days of the years of Abraham's life, 175 years. 8 Abraham (E)breathed his last and (F)died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people. 9 Isaac and Ishmael (G)his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, east of Mamre, 10 the field (H)that Abraham purchased from the Hittites. (I)There Abraham was buried, with Sarah his wife. 11 After the death of Abraham, God blessed Isaac his son. And Isaac settled at (J)Beer-lahai-roi.
12 These are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, (K)whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's servant, bore to Abraham. 13 (L)These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, named in the order of their birth: (M)Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael; and (N)Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, 15 Hadad, (O)Tema, (P)Jetur, (Q)Naphish, and Kedemah. 16 These are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names, by their villages and by their encampments, (R)twelve princes according to their tribes. 17 (These are the years of the life of Ishmael: 137 years. He (S)breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.) 18 (T)They settled from Havilah to (U)Shur, which is opposite Egypt in the direction of Assyria. He settled[a] over against all his kinsmen.
The Birth of Esau and Jacob
19 These are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: (V)Abraham fathered Isaac, 20 and Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, (W)the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of (X)Paddan-aram, (Y)the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife. 21 And Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was barren. And (Z)the Lord granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived. 22 The children struggled together within her, and she said, “If it is thus, why is this happening to me?”[b] So she went (AA)to inquire of the Lord. 23 And the Lord said to her,
(AB)“Two nations are in your womb,
and two peoples from within you[c] shall be divided;
(AC)the one shall be stronger than the other,
(AD)the older shall serve the younger.”
24 When her days to give birth were completed, behold, there were twins in her womb. 25 The first came out red, (AE)all his body like a hairy cloak, so they called his name Esau. 26 Afterward his brother came out with (AF)his hand holding Esau's heel, so (AG)his name was called Jacob.[d] Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.
27 When the boys grew up, Esau was (AH)a skillful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man, (AI)dwelling in tents. 28 Isaac loved Esau because (AJ)he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
Esau Sells His Birthright
29 Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.[e]) 31 Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.” 32 Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” 33 Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and (AK)sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Los hijos de Dedán fueron Asurim, Letusim y Leumim. 4 Los hijos de Madián fueron Efa, Efer, Janoc, Abidá y Eldá. Todos estos fueron hijos de Cetura. 5 Y Abrahán le dio a Isaac todo cuanto tenía. 6 A los hijos de sus concubinas, Abrahán les dio regalos mientras todavía vivía, y los envió hacia el oriente, a la tierra oriental, lejos de su hijo Isaac.

7 Abrahán llegó a vivir ciento setenta y cinco años, 8 y murió en buena vejez, anciano y lleno de años. Exhaló el espíritu, y fue reunido a su pueblo. 9 Sus hijos Isaac e Ismael lo sepultaron en la cueva de Macpela, que fue heredad de Efrón hijo de Sojar, el hitita, y que está frente a Mamre, 10 Esa heredad la compró Abrahán de los hititas,(B) y allí fueron sepultados Abrahán y Sara, su mujer. 11 Después de la muerte de Abrahán, Dios bendijo a su hijo Isaac, y éste se quedó a vivir junto al pozo «El que vive y me ve».
Los descendientes de Ismael(C)
12 Éstos son los descendientes de Ismael, el hijo que Abrahán tuvo con Agar la egipcia, sierva de Sara. 13 Los nombres de los hijos de Ismael, nombrados por orden de nacimiento, fueron: Nebayot, primogénito de Ismael; le siguieron Cedar, Adbel, Mibsán, 14 Misma, Duma, Massa, 15 Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Nafís y Quedemá. 16 Éstos son los hijos de Ismael, y sus nombres, en el orden de sus villas y campamentos: doce príncipes de sus pueblos. 17 Ismael llegó a vivir ciento treinta y siete años. 19 Éstos son los descendientes de Isaac, hijo de Abrahán: Abrahán engendró a Isaac. 20 Isaac tenía cuarenta años cuando tomó por mujer a Rebeca, hija de Betuel, el arameo de Padán Aram, y hermana de Labán el arameo. 21 Isaac rogó al Señor por Rebeca, su mujer, porque era estéril; y el Señor escuchó sus ruegos, y ella concibió. 22 Pero los hijos luchaban dentro de ella, así que ella dijo:
«Si esto es así, ¿para qué estoy aquí?»
Fue entonces a consultar al Señor; 23 y el Señor le respondió:
«En tu seno hay dos naciones.
Dos pueblos serán divididos desde tus entrañas;
un pueblo será más fuerte que el otro,
y el mayor servirá al menor.»(D)
24 Cuando se cumplieron sus días para que diera a luz, resultó que en su vientre había gemelos. 25 El primero en salir era rubio y todo velludo; y le pusieron por nombre Esaú. 26 Después salió su hermano, con la mano aferrada al talón de Esaú; y le pusieron por nombre Jacob.[a] Isaac tenía sesenta años de edad cuando ella los dio a luz.

27 Los niños crecieron, y Esaú fue un hombre de campo y un cazador experto; pero Jacob era un hombre tranquilo, que habitaba en tiendas. 28 Isaac amaba a Esaú, porque comía de lo que cazaba; pero Rebeca amaba a Jacob.
29 Cierto día, Jacob preparó un guiso, y Esaú, que volvía del campo, cansado, 30 le dijo a Jacob:
«Por favor, dame a comer de ese guiso rojo, que estoy muy cansado.»
Por eso fue llamado Edom.[b] 31 Y Jacob le respondió:
«Pues véndeme hoy tu primogenitura.»
32 Esaú dijo:
«¿Y para qué me sirve la primogenitura, si estoy a punto de morir?»
33 Jacob le dijo:
«Pues júramelo hoy mismo.»
Y Esaú le hizo un juramento a Jacob, y le vendió su primogenitura.(E) 34 Entonces Jacob le dio a Esaú pan y el guiso de lentejas, y Esaú comió y bebió; luego se levantó y se fue. Así fue como Esaú menospreció la primogenitura.

Dedan’s sons were Asshurim, Letushim and Leummim. 4 Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida and Eldaah. All of these were Keturah’s sons. 5 Now Abraham gave everything that he had to Isaac, 6 but to the sons of Abraham’s concubines, Abraham had given gifts and sent them away from his son Isaac while he was still living, eastward to the land of the east.
7 Now these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life that he lived: 175 years. 8 So Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, old and satisfied. Then he was gathered to his peoples. 9 Then Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite, next to Mamre, 10 the field that Abraham bought from the sons of Heth. There Abraham is buried along with Sarah his wife.
11 After Abraham’s death, God blessed Isaac his son, and Isaac lived near Beer-lahai-roi.
12 Now these are the genealogies of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar, Sarah’s Egyptian slave-girl, bore to Abraham. 13 These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names according to their descendants: Ishmael’s firstborn, Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, 15 Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedem. 16 These are Ishmael’s sons and these are their names, by their unwalled and walled settlements, twelve princes according to their clans. 17 These are the years of Ishmael’s life: 137 years. He breathed his last, died and was gathered to his peoples. 18 Then they dwelled from Havilah to Shur, which is east of Egypt as you go toward Assyria. Over against all his brothers he fell.

Esau and Jacob
19 Now these are the genealogies of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham fathered Isaac. 20 Isaac was 40 years old when he took for himself Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife. 21 Isaac prayed to Adonai on behalf of his wife because she was barren. Adonai answered his plea and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.
22 But the children struggled with one another inside her, and she said, “If it’s like this, why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of Adonai. 23 Adonai said to her:
“Two nations are in your womb,
and two peoples from your body
will be separated.
One people will be stronger
than the other people,
but the older will serve the younger.”
24 When her time came to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb. 25 Now the first came out reddish, all of him was like a fur coat, and they named him Esau. 26 Afterward his brother came out with his hand holding onto Esau’s heel—so he was named Jacob. Isaac was 60 years old when he fathered them.
27 When the boys grew up, Esau became a man knowledgeable in hunting, an outdoorsman, while Jacob was a mild man, remaining in tents. 28 Now Isaac loved Esau because he had a taste for wild game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
29 Now Jacob cooked a stew. When Esau came in from the field, he was exhausted, 30 so Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me some of this really red stuff, because I’m exhausted”—that is why he is called Edom.
31 So Jacob said, “Sell your birthright to me today.”
32 Esau said, “Look, I’m about to die. Of whatever use is this to me—a birthright?”
33 Jacob said, “Make a pledge to me now.”
So he made a pledge to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. [a] 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank, then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.
