Dios ordena a Abrahán sacrificar a Isaac
22 Después de esto, sucedió que Dios puso a prueba a Abrahán, y lo llamó: «¡Abrahán!» Y él respondió: «¡Aquí estoy!» 2 Y Dios le dijo: «Toma ahora a Isaac, tu único hijo, al que tanto amas, y vete a la tierra de Moriah. Allí me lo ofrecerás en holocausto, sobre uno de los montes que yo te diré.»
3 Al día siguiente, Abrahán se levantó, le puso la albarda a su asno, y se llevó consigo a dos de sus siervos y a su hijo Isaac. Cortó leña para el holocausto, y se dispuso a ir al lugar que Dios le dijo. 4 Tres días después, Abrahán levantó los ojos y a lo lejos vio el lugar. 5 Entonces Abrahán dijo a sus siervos:
«Esperen aquí, con el asno, y el niño y yo iremos hasta ese lugar; allí adoraremos, y luego volveremos aquí mismo.»
6 Y tomó Abrahán la leña del holocausto, y la echó sobre Isaac, su hijo; luego, tomó en su mano el fuego y el cuchillo, y juntos siguieron caminando. 7 Entonces Isaac le habló a Abrahán, su padre, y le dijo:
«Padre mío...»
Y él respondió:
«Aquí estoy, hijo mío.»
Isaac dijo:
«Aquí están el fuego y la leña, pero ¿dónde está el cordero para el holocausto?»
8 Y Abrahán respondió:
«Dios proveerá el cordero para el holocausto, hijo mío.»
Y juntos siguieron caminando. 9 Cuando llegaron al lugar que Dios le había dicho, Abrahán edificó allí un altar, luego acomodó la leña, y atando a Isaac su hijo lo puso en el altar,(A) sobre la leña. 10 Entonces extendió Abrahán su mano y tomó el cuchillo para degollar a su hijo. 11 Pero el ángel del Señor lo llamó desde el cielo, y le dijo:
«¡Abrahán, Abrahán!»
Y él respondió:
«¡Aquí estoy!»
12 Y el ángel dijo:
«No extiendas tu mano sobre el niño, ni le hagas nada. Yo sé bien que temes a Dios, pues no me has negado a tu único hijo.»
13 Abrahán levantó entonces los ojos, y vio que a sus espaldas había un carnero, trabado por los cuernos en un zarzal. Y Abrahán fue y tomó el carnero, y lo ofreció en holocausto en lugar de su hijo.(B) 14 A ese lugar Abrahán le puso por nombre «El Señor proveerá.»[a] Por eso es que aún hoy se dice: «En un monte el Señor proveerá.»
15 Por segunda vez, el ángel del Señor llamó a Abrahán desde el cielo 16 y le dijo:
«Yo, el Señor, he jurado por mí mismo que, por esto que has hecho, de no negarme a tu único hijo, 17 ciertamente te bendeciré; multiplicaré(C) tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo y como la arena que hay a la orilla del mar;(D) ¡tu descendencia conquistará las ciudades de sus enemigos! 18 En tu simiente serán bendecidas todas las naciones de la tierra,(E) por cuanto atendiste a mi voz.»
19 Y Abrahán volvió a donde estaban sus siervos, y juntos se levantaron de allí y se fueron a Berseba. Allí en Berseba Abrahán se quedó a vivir.
20 Después de todo esto, le fueron a dar esta noticia a Abrahán:
«¡Fíjate que también Milca le ha dado hijos a tu hermano Najor!»
21 Su primogénito fue Uz; luego nació su hermano Buz, y luego Kemuel, padre de Aram; 22 Quesed, Jazó, Pildas, Yidlaf y Betuel. 23 Este Betuel fue el padre de Rebeca. Éstos son los ocho hijos que tuvo Milca de Najor, el hermano de Abrahán. 24 También su concubina, que se llamaba Reúma, dio a luz a Teba, Gaján, Tajás y Macá.

Abraham obedece a Dios
22 1-2 Algunos años después, Dios quiso ver si Abraham lo obedecía, así que lo llamó y le dijo:
«Abraham, quiero que me ofrezcas como sacrificio a Isaac, tu único hijo, a quien tanto amas. Llévalo a la región de Moria, al cerro que te voy a enseñar».
3 A la mañana siguiente Abraham madrugó, y cortó leña suficiente para hacer un gran fuego. Preparó su burro y se puso en camino al lugar que Dios le había señalado. Iba acompañado de su hijo Isaac y dos de sus sirvientes. 4-5 Al tercer día, Abraham les dijo a sus sirvientes: «Quédense aquí con el burro, mientras mi hijo y yo vamos hasta aquel cerro que se ve allá a lo lejos. Allí adoraremos a Dios, y luego regresaremos con ustedes».
6 Abraham tomó la leña y se la puso a Isaac sobre el hombro; luego tomó el fuego y el cuchillo, y los dos juntos se pusieron en marcha. 7 Pero Isaac le dijo a Abraham:
—Padre mío, tenemos fuego y leña, pero ¿dónde está el cordero que vamos a ofrecerle a Dios?
8 Abraham le respondió:
—Ya Dios se encargará de darnos el cordero, hijo mío.
Y así siguieron juntos su camino. 9 Cuando llegaron al lugar señalado por Dios, Abraham construyó un altar, y sobre él preparó la leña para el fuego; luego ató a su hijo Isaac y lo puso sobre el altar. 10 Ya tenía el cuchillo en la mano y estaba a punto de matar a su hijo, 11 cuando oyó que Dios lo llamaba desde el cielo. Abraham respondió, 12 y Dios le dijo:
«No le hagas daño al niño. Estoy convencido de que me obedeces, pues no te negaste a ofrecerme en sacrificio a tu único hijo».
13 En ese mismo instante, Abraham vio un carnero que tenía los cuernos trabados entre las ramas de un arbusto. Entonces tomó el carnero y se lo ofreció a Dios en lugar de su hijo. 14 Por eso Abraham llamó a ese lugar «Dios dará lo necesario». De allí viene el dicho que hasta hoy se escucha: «En su montaña Dios da lo necesario».
15 Por segunda vez Dios llamó a Abraham desde el cielo, 16-18 y le dijo:
«Por no haberme negado a tu único hijo, yo prometo bendecirte. Haré que tus descendientes sean tan numerosos como las estrellas del cielo, y como la arena del mar, que no se puede contar. Tus descendientes atacarán las ciudades de sus enemigos, y las conquistarán. Yo te juro que todos los pueblos de la tierra recibirán mis bendiciones por medio de tu descendencia, porque tú me obedeciste».
19 Después de esto, Abraham volvió a donde estaban sus sirvientes, y juntos regresaron a Beerseba, donde vivían.
Los hijos de Nahor
20-23 Algún tiempo después, alguien fue a decirle a Abraham: «Tu cuñada Milcá y tu hermano Nahor ya tienen ocho hijos».
Éstos son sus nombres:
Us,
Buz,
Quemuel,
Quésed,
Hazó,
Pildás,
Idlaf,
Betuel.
Us fue el primero de todos. Quemuel fue el padre de Aram, y Betuel fue el padre de Rebeca. 24 Además, Nahor tuvo cuatro hijos con Rumá, su segunda esposa:
Teba,
Gáham,
Tahas,
Maacá.

God Commands Abraham to Offer Isaac
22 (A)Some time later God tested Abraham; he called to him, “Abraham!” And Abraham answered, “Yes, here I am!”
2 (B)“Take your son,” God said, “your only son, Isaac, whom you love so much, and go to the land of Moriah. There on a mountain that I will show you, offer him as a sacrifice to me.”
3 Early the next morning Abraham cut some wood for the sacrifice, loaded his donkey, and took Isaac and two servants with him. They started out for the place that God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham saw the place in the distance. 5 Then he said to the servants, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there and worship, and then we will come back to you.”
6 Abraham made Isaac carry the wood for the sacrifice, and he himself carried a knife and live coals for starting the fire. As they walked along together, 7 Isaac spoke up, “Father!”
He answered, “Yes, my son?”
Isaac asked, “I see that you have the coals and the wood, but where is the lamb for the sacrifice?”
8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide one.” And the two of them walked on together.
9 (C)When they came to the place which God had told him about, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. He tied up his son and placed him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he picked up the knife to kill him. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham, Abraham!”
He answered, “Yes, here I am.”
12 “Don't hurt the boy or do anything to him,” he said. “Now I know that you honor and obey God, because you have not kept back your only son from him.”
13 Abraham looked around and saw a ram caught in a bush by its horns. He went and got it and offered it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 Abraham named that place “The Lord Provides.”[a] And even today people say, “On the Lord's mountain he provides.”[b]
15 The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time, 16 (D)“I make a vow by my own name—the Lord is speaking—that I will richly bless you. Because you did this and did not keep back your only son from me, 17 (E)I promise that I will give you as many descendants as there are stars in the sky or grains of sand along the seashore. Your descendants will conquer their enemies. 18 (F)All the nations will ask me to bless them as I have blessed your descendants—all because you obeyed my command.” 19 Abraham went back to his servants, and they went together to Beersheba, where Abraham settled.
The Descendants of Nahor
20 Some time later Abraham learned that Milcah had borne eight children to his brother Nahor: 21 Uz the first-born, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram, 22 Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel, 23 Rebecca's father. Milcah bore these eight sons to Nahor, Abraham's brother. 24 Reumah, Nahor's concubine, bore Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.

22 After these things, God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”
He said, “Here I am.”
2 He said, “Now take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of.”
3 Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey; and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place far off. 5 Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there. We will worship, and come back to you.” 6 Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. He took in his hand the fire and the knife. They both went together. 7 Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, “My father?”
He said, “Here I am, my son.”
He said, “Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
8 Abraham said, “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they both went together. 9 They came to the place which God had told him of. Abraham built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, on the wood. 10 Abraham stretched out his hand, and took the knife to kill his son.
11 Yahweh’s angel called to him out of the sky, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
He said, “Here I am.”
12 He said, “Don’t lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”
13 Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw that behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 Abraham called the name of that place “Yahweh Will Provide”.[a] As it is said to this day, “On Yahweh’s mountain, it will be provided.”
15 Yahweh’s angel called to Abraham a second time out of the sky, 16 and said, “‘I have sworn by myself,’ says Yahweh, ‘because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 that I will bless you greatly, and I will multiply your offspring greatly like the stars of the heavens, and like the sand which is on the seashore. Your offspring will possess the gate of his enemies. 18 All the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring, because you have obeyed my voice.’”
19 So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba. Abraham lived at Beersheba.
20 After these things, Abraham was told, “Behold, Milcah, she also has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21 Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram, 22 Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.” 23 Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
