El mundo se divide
11 En aquel tiempo todo el mundo hablaba un mismo idioma. 2 Cuando la gente emigraba desde el oriente[a], encontraron una planicie en la tierra de Sumeria, y ahí se quedaron a vivir. 3 Se dijeron unos a otros: «Vamos, hagamos ladrillos y pongámoslos en el fuego para endurecerlos». Entonces usaron ladrillos en vez de piedras y brea a cambio de morteros. 4 Luego dijeron: «Vengan, construyamos una ciudadela religiosa con una torre que llegue hasta el cielo. De esta manera nos volveremos famosos. No dejaremos que nos dispersen por todo el mundo».
5 De hecho el SEÑOR bajó a ver la ciudad y la torre que la gente había construido, 6 y dijo el SEÑOR: «Miren, ellos son un solo pueblo, hablan todos un mismo idioma, ese es sólo el comienzo de lo que harán. Ahora lograrán todo lo que se propongan. 7 Vengan, bajemos y confundamos su idioma para que no se entiendan entre ellos».
8 Entonces el SEÑOR los dispersó por toda la tierra y ellos detuvieron la construcción de la ciudad. 9 Así que la ciudad fue llamada Babel[b], porque el SEÑOR confundió las lenguas humanas y desde ahí el SEÑOR dispersó a la gente por todo el mundo.
Descendientes de Sem
(1 Cr 1:24-27)
10 Estos son los descendientes de Sem:
Después del diluvio, cuando Sem tenía 100 años de edad, nació su hijo Arfaxad. 11 Después del nacimiento de Arfaxad, Sem vivió 500 años más, y durante ese tiempo tuvo más hijos e hijas.
12 Cuando Arfaxad tenía 35 años de edad, nació su hijo Selaj. 13 Después del nacimiento de Selaj, Arfaxad vivió 403 años más, y durante ese tiempo tuvo más hijos e hijas.
14 Cuando Selaj tenía 30 años de edad, nació su hijo Éber. 15 Después del nacimiento de Éber, Selaj vivió 403 años más, y durante ese tiempo tuvo más hijos e hijas.
16 Cuando Éber tenía 34 años, nació su hijo Péleg. 17 Después del nacimiento de Péleg, Éber vivió 430 años más, y durante ese tiempo tuvo más hijos e hijas.
18 Cuando Péleg tenía 30 años de edad, nació su hijo Reú. 19 Después del nacimiento de Reú, Péleg vivió 209 años más, y durante ese tiempo tuvo más hijos e hijas.
20 Cuando Reú tenía 32 años de edad, nació su hijo Serug. 21 Después del nacimiento de Serug, Reú vivió 207 años más, y durante ese tiempo tuvo más hijos e hijas.
22 Cuando Serug tenía 30 años de edad, nació su hijo Najor. 23 Después del nacimiento de Najor, Serug vivió 200 años más, y durante ese tiempo tuvo más hijos e hijas.
24 Cuando Najor tenía 29 años de edad, nació su hijo Téraj. 25 Después del nacimiento de Téraj, Najor vivió 119 años más, y durante ese tiempo tuvo más hijos e hijas.
26 Cuando Téraj tenía 70 años de edad, nacieron sus hijos Abram, Najor y Jarán.
Descendientes de Téraj
27 Estos son los descendientes de Téraj, el papá de Abram, de Najor y de Jarán:
Jarán fue el papá de Lot. 28 Jarán murió primero que su padre, Téraj, en Ur de Babilonia[c], su tierra de origen. 29 Abram y Najor se casaron; Abram con Saray y Najor con Milca que era hija de Jarán. Jarán fue el papá de Milca e Iscá. 30 Saray era estéril y no podía tener hijos.
31 Téraj tomó a su hijo Abram, su nieto Lot hijo de Jarán, su nuera Saray, esposa de su hijo Abram y salieron de Ur de Babilonia hacia Canaán. Llegaron a Jarán y se quedaron a vivir allí. 32 Téraj vivió 205 años y murió en Jarán.

11 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
12 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
19 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
20 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

La torre de Babel
11 En la tierra todos tenían entonces una sola lengua y unas mismas palabras, 2 pero sucedió que, cuando salieron de oriente, hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar y se establecieron allí. 3 Y se dijeron unos a otros: «Vamos a hacer ladrillos y a cocerlos en el fuego.» Y los ladrillos les sirvieron como piedras, y el asfalto les sirvió de mezcla, 4 y dijeron: «Vamos a edificar una ciudad, y una torre cuya cúspide llegue hasta el cielo. Hagámonos de renombre, por si llegamos a esparcirnos por toda la tierra.»
5 Pero el Señor descendió para ver la ciudad y la torre que los hijos de los hombres estaban edificando, 6 y dijo:
«Esta gente es una sola, y todos ellos tienen un solo lenguaje. Ya han comenzado su obra, y ahora nada los hará desistir de lo que han pensado hacer. 7 Así que descendamos allá y confundamos su lengua, para que ninguno entienda la lengua de su compañero.»
8 Así fue como el Señor los esparció por toda la tierra, y como dejaron de edificar la ciudad. 9 Por eso la ciudad se llamó Babel, porque allí el Señor confundió[a] el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y desde allí los esparció por toda la superficie de la tierra.
Los descendientes de Sem(A)
10 Éstos son los descendientes de Sem: Dos años después del diluvio, Sem engendró a Arfaxad. Tenía entonces cien años de edad. 11 Después de engendrar a Arfaxad, Sem vivió quinientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 12 Arfaxad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró a Selaj. 13 Después de engendrar a Selaj, Arfaxad vivió cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 14 Selaj vivió treinta años, y engendró a Éber. 15 Después de engendrar a Éber, Selaj vivió cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 16 Éber vivió treinta y cuatro años, y engendró a Peleg. 17 Después de engendrar a Peleg, Éber vivió cuatrocientos treinta años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 18 Peleg vivió treinta años, y engendró a Reu. 19 Después de engendrar a Reu, Peleg vivió doscientos nueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 20 Reu vivió treinta y dos años, y engendró a Serug. 21 Después de engendrar a Serug, Reu vivió doscientos siete años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 22 Serug vivió treinta años, y engendró a Najor. 23 Después de engendrar a Najor, Serug vivió doscientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 24 Najor vivió veintinueve años, y engendró a Téraj. 25 Después de engendrar a Téraj, Najor vivió ciento diecinueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas. 26 Téraj vivió setenta años, y engendró a Abrán, a Najor y a Harán.
Los descendientes de Téraj
27 Éstos son los descendientes de Téraj: Téraj engendró a Abrán, a Najor y a Harán; y Harán engendró a Lot. 28 Harán murió antes que su padre Téraj, en Ur de los caldeos, que era la tierra donde nació. 29 Abrán y Najor tomaron mujeres para ellos. La mujer de Abrán se llamaba Saraí, y la mujer de Najor se llamaba Milca, que era hija de Harán, el padre de Milca y de Isca. 30 Pero Saraí era estéril; no tenía ningún hijo. 31 Y Téraj tomó a su hijo Abrán y a su nuera Saraí, y a su nieto Lot, hijo de Harán, y salió con ellos de Ur de los caldeos para ir a la tierra de Canaán, pero cuando llegaron a Jarán se quedaron allí. 32 Y fueron los días de Téraj doscientos cinco años; y murió Téraj en Jarán.
