La creación del mundo
1 Cuando Dios comenzó a crear
el cielo y la tierra,
2 la tierra no tenía forma,
ni había en ella nada
que tuviera vida.
Las aguas estaban cubiertas
por una gran oscuridad,
pero sobre la superficie del agua
se movía el espíritu de Dios.
El primer día de la creación
3 Dijo entonces Dios:
«¡Quiero que haya luz!»
¡Y al instante hubo luz!
4 Al ver Dios la belleza de la luz,
la apartó de la oscuridad
5 y le puso por nombre «día».
A la oscuridad la llamó «noche».
Y cayó la noche,
y llegó la mañana.
Ése fue el primer día.
El segundo día de la creación
6 Dijo entonces Dios:
«Quiero que haya entre las aguas
algo firme que las separe».
7 ¡Y al instante se hizo así!
Dios puso algo firme entre las aguas,
y la mitad de las aguas quedó abajo
y la otra mitad quedó arriba.
8 Al ver la belleza del firmamento,[a]
Dios le puso por nombre «cielo».
Y cayó la noche,
y llegó la mañana.
Ése fue el segundo día.
El tercer día de la creación
9 Dijo entonces Dios:
«Quiero que las aguas
que están debajo del cielo
se junten en un solo lugar,
y que aparezca lo seco».
¡Y al instante se hizo así!
10 Dios llamó «tierra» a lo seco,
y llamó «mar» a las aguas.
11 Al ver Dios tal belleza, dijo:
«Quiero que haya en la tierra
árboles y plantas
que den fruto y semilla».
¡Y al instante se hizo así!
12 La tierra produjo árboles y plantas;
los árboles dieron frutos,
y las plantas dieron semillas.
Mientras Dios admiraba tal belleza,
13 cayó la noche,
y llegó la mañana.
Ése fue el tercer día.
El cuarto día de la creación
14 Dijo entonces Dios:
«Quiero que haya en el cielo
luces que separen el día de la noche;
luces que indiquen las estaciones,
los días y los años;
15 luces en el cielo azul
que iluminen la tierra».
¡Y al instante se hizo así!
16 Dios hizo las dos grandes luces:
el sol, para que domine en el día,
y la luna, para que domine en la noche.
También hizo las estrellas.
17 Dios puso estas luces en el cielo
para alumbrar la tierra,
18 para dominar en el día y en la noche,
y para separar la luz de la oscuridad.
Mientras Dios admiraba tal belleza,
19 cayó la noche,
y llegó la mañana.
Ése fue el cuarto día.
El quinto día de la creación
20 Dijo entonces Dios:
«Quiero que los mares
se llenen con seres vivos.
Quiero que las aves
vuelen sobre la tierra
y crucen el cielo azul».
21 Así creó Dios
los grandes monstruos marinos.
Creó todos los seres vivos
que se mueven en el agua,
y todas las aves del cielo.
Al ver Dios tal belleza,
22 les dio esta bendición:
«Quiero que los peces
se reproduzcan y llenen los mares;
quiero que las aves
se multipliquen sobre la tierra».
23 Y cayó la noche,
y llegó la mañana.
Ése fue el quinto día.
El sexto día de la creación
24 Dijo entonces Dios:
«Quiero que haya en la tierra
toda clase de seres vivos:
animales domésticos,
animales salvajes,
reptiles e insectos».
¡Y al instante se hizo así!
25 Dios hizo los animales salvajes,
los animales domésticos,
los reptiles y los insectos.
26 Al ver Dios tal belleza, dijo:
«Hagamos ahora al ser humano
tal y como somos nosotros.
Que domine a los peces del mar
y a las aves del cielo,
a todos los animales de la tierra,
y a todos los reptiles e insectos».
27 Fue así como Dios creó
al ser humano
tal y como es Dios.
Lo creó a su semejanza.
Creó al hombre y a la mujer,
28 y les dio esta bendición:
«Quiero que se reproduzcan,
quiero que se multipliquen,
quiero que llenen la tierra
y la pongan bajo su dominio.
Que dominen a los peces del mar
y a las aves del cielo,
y a todos los seres vivos
que se arrastran por el suelo».
29 También les dijo Dios:
«Hoy les entrego a ustedes
toda planta que da semilla
y todo árbol que da fruto.
Todo esto les servirá de alimento.
30 Pero la hierba verde
será para todos los animales».
¡Y al instante se hizo así!
31 Mientras Dios admiraba
la gran belleza de su creación,
cayó la noche,
y llegó la mañana.
Ése fue el sexto día.

1 En el principio(A) creó Dios(B) los cielos y la tierra(C). 2 Y la tierra estaba sin orden y vacía[a](D), y las tinieblas(E) cubrían la superficie[b] del abismo, y el Espíritu de Dios(F) se movía(G) sobre la superficie[c] de las aguas. 3 Entonces dijo Dios: Sea la luz(H). Y hubo luz. 4 Y vio Dios que la luz era buena(I); y separó Dios la luz de las tinieblas(J). 5 Y llamó Dios a la luz día, y a las tinieblas llamó noche(K). Y fue la tarde y fue la mañana(L): un día.
6 Entonces dijo Dios: Haya expansión[d](M) en medio de las aguas, y separe las aguas de las aguas. 7 E hizo Dios la expansión, y separó las aguas que estaban debajo de la expansión(N) de las aguas que estaban sobre la expansión(O). Y fue así. 8 Y llamó Dios a la expansión cielos. Y fue la tarde y fue la mañana: el segundo día.
9 Entonces dijo Dios: Júntense en un lugar las aguas que están debajo de los cielos(P), y que aparezca lo seco(Q). Y fue así. 10 Y llamó Dios a lo seco tierra, y al conjunto de las aguas llamó mares(R). Y vio Dios que era bueno. 11 Y dijo Dios: Produzca la tierra vegetación[e](S): hierbas[f] que den semilla, y árboles frutales que den fruto sobre la tierra según su género[g], con su semilla en él. Y fue así. 12 Y produjo la tierra vegetación[h]: hierbas[i] que dan semilla según su género, y árboles que dan fruto con su semilla en él, según su género. Y vio Dios que era bueno. 13 Y fue la tarde y fue la mañana: el tercer día.
14 Entonces dijo Dios: Haya lumbreras[j](T) en la expansión(U) de los cielos para separar el día de la noche, y sean para señales(V) y para estaciones(W) y para días y para años; 15 y sean por luminarias en la expansión de los cielos para alumbrar sobre la tierra. Y fue así. 16 E hizo Dios las dos grandes lumbreras[k], la lumbrera[l] mayor para dominio del día y la lumbrera[m] menor para dominio de la noche(X); hizo también las estrellas(Y). 17 Y Dios las puso en la expansión de los cielos para alumbrar sobre la tierra(Z), 18 y para dominar en el día y en la noche, y para separar la luz de las tinieblas(AA). Y vio Dios que era bueno. 19 Y fue la tarde y fue la mañana: el cuarto día.
20 Entonces dijo Dios: Llénense[n] las aguas de multitudes de seres vivientes, y vuelen las aves sobre la tierra en la abierta[o] expansión de los cielos. 21 Y creó Dios los grandes monstruos marinos y todo ser viviente que se mueve, de los cuales están llenas[p] las aguas según su género(AB), y toda ave[q] según su género. Y vio Dios que era bueno. 22 Y Dios los bendijo, diciendo: Sed fecundos y multiplicaos, y llenad las aguas en los mares, y multiplíquense las aves en la tierra. 23 Y fue la tarde y fue la mañana: el quinto día.
24 Entonces dijo Dios: Produzca la tierra seres vivientes(AC) según su género: ganados, reptiles y bestias de la tierra según su género. Y fue así. 25 E hizo Dios las bestias de la tierra según su género, y el ganado según su género, y todo lo que se arrastra sobre la tierra según su género(AD). Y vio Dios que era bueno.

26 Y dijo Dios: Hagamos(AE) al hombre a nuestra imagen, conforme a nuestra semejanza(AF); y ejerza[r] dominio sobre los peces del mar, sobre las aves del cielo, sobre los ganados, sobre toda la tierra, y sobre todo reptil que se arrastra sobre la tierra(AG). 27 Creó, pues, Dios al hombre a imagen suya, a imagen de Dios lo creó(AH); varón y hembra los creó(AI). 28 Y los bendijo Dios y les dijo[s]: Sed fecundos y multiplicaos, y llenad la tierra(AJ) y sojuzgadla; ejerced dominio sobre los peces del mar, sobre las aves del cielo y sobre todo ser viviente que se mueve[t] sobre la tierra. 29 Y dijo Dios: He aquí, yo os he dado toda planta que da semilla que hay en la superficie[u] de toda la tierra, y todo árbol que tiene fruto[v] que da semilla; esto os servirá de[w] alimento(AK). 30 Y a toda bestia de la tierra, a toda ave de los cielos y a todo lo que se mueve[x] sobre la tierra, y que tiene vida[y], les he dado toda planta verde para alimento(AL). Creation in Six Days
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [a] 2 Now the earth was chaos and waste, darkness was on the surface of the deep, and the Ruach Elohim was hovering upon the surface of the water.[b]
3 Then God said, “Let there be light!” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good. So God distinguished the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” So there was evening and there was morning—one day.
6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the water! Let it be for separating water from water.” 7 So God made the expanse and it separated the water that was below the expanse from the water that was over the expanse. And it happened so. 8 God called the expanse “sky.” So there was evening and there was morning—a second day. 9 Then God said, “Let the water below the sky be gathered to one place. Let the dry ground appear.” And it happened so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the collection of the water He called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, “Let the land sprout grass, green plants yielding seed, fruit trees making fruit, each according to its species with seed in it, upon the land.” And it happened so. 12 The land brought forth grass, green plants yielding seed, each according to its species, and trees making fruit with the seed in it, each according to its species. And God saw that it was good. 13 So there was evening and there was morning—a third day.
14 Then God said, “Let lights in the expanse of the sky be for separating the day from the night. They will be for signs and for seasons and for days and years. 15 They will be for lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the land.” And it happened so. 16 Then God made the two great lights—the greater light for dominion over the day, and the lesser light as well as the stars for dominion over the night. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to shine on the land 18 and to have dominion over the day and over the night and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 So there was evening and there was morning—a fourth day.
20 Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures! Let flying creatures fly above the land across the expanse of the sky.” 21 Then God created the large sea creatures and every living creature that crawls, with which the water swarms, according to their species, as well as every winged flying creature, according to their species. And God saw that it was good. 22 Then God blessed them by saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the water in the seas. Let the flying creatures multiply on the land.” 23 So there was evening and there was morning—a fifth day.
24 Then God said, “Let the land bring forth living creatures according to their species—livestock, crawling creatures and wild animals, according to their species.” And it happened so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their species, the livestock according to their species, and everything that crawls on the ground, each according to its species. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness! Let them rule over the fish of the sea, over the flying creatures of the sky, over the livestock, over the whole earth, and over every crawling creature that crawls on the land.” 27 God created humankind in His image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them. [c] 28 God blessed them and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the land, and conquer it. Rule over the fish of the sea, the flying creatures of the sky, and over every animal that crawls on the land.”
29 Then God said, “I have just given you every green plant yielding seed that is on the surface of the whole land, and every tree, which has the fruit of a tree yielding seed. They are to be food for you. 30 Also for every wild animal, every flying creature of the sky and every creature that crawls on the land which has life, every green plant is to be food.” And it happened so. 31 So God saw everything that He made, and behold it was very good.
So there was evening and there was morning—the sixth day.
