2 Er ég kom til yðar, bræður, og boðaði yður leyndardóm Guðs, kom ég ekki með frábærri mælskusnilld eða speki.
2 Ég ásetti mér að vita ekkert á meðal yðar, nema Jesú Krist og hann krossfestan.
3 Og ég dvaldist á meðal yðar í veikleika, ótta og mikilli angist.
4 Orðræða mín og prédikun studdist ekki við sannfærandi vísdómsorð, heldur við sönnun anda og kraftar,
5 til þess að trú yðar væri eigi byggð á vísdómi manna, heldur á krafti Guðs.
6 Speki tölum vér meðal hinna fullkomnu, þó ekki speki þessarar aldar eða höfðingja þessarar aldar, sem að engu verða,
7 heldur tölum vér leynda speki Guðs, sem hulin hefur verið, en Guð hefur frá eilífð fyrirhugað oss til dýrðar.
8 Enginn af höfðingjum þessarar aldar þekkti hana, því að ef þeir hefðu þekkt hana, hefðu þeir ekki krossfest Drottin dýrðarinnar.
9 En það er eins og ritað er: Það sem auga sá ekki og eyra heyrði ekki og ekki kom upp í hjarta nokkurs manns, allt það sem Guð fyrirbjó þeim, er elska hann.
10 En oss hefur Guð opinberað hana fyrir andann, því að andinn rannsakar allt, jafnvel djúp Guðs.
11 Hver meðal manna veit hvað mannsins er, nema andi mannsins, sem í honum er? Þannig hefur heldur enginn komist að raun um, hvað Guðs er, nema Guðs andi.
12 En vér höfum ekki hlotið anda heimsins, heldur andann, sem er frá Guði, til þess að vér skulum vita, hvað oss er af Guði gefið.
13 Enda tölum vér það ekki með orðum, sem mannlegur vísdómur kennir, heldur með orðum, sem andinn kennir, og útlistum andleg efni á andlegan hátt.
14 Maðurinn án anda veitir ekki viðtöku því, sem Guðs anda er, því að honum er það heimska og hann getur ekki skilið það, af því að það dæmist andlega.
15 En hinn andlegi dæmir um allt, en um hann sjálfan verður ekki dæmt af neinum.
16 Því að hver hefur þekkt huga Drottins, að hann geti frætt hann? En vér höfum huga Krists.

2 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom(A) as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.[a] 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.(B) 3 I came to you(C) in weakness(D) with great fear and trembling.(E) 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words,(F) but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,(G) 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.(H)
God’s Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit
6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature,(I) but not the wisdom of this age(J) or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.(K) 7 No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery(L) that has been hidden(M) and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age(N) understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.(O) 9 However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”[b]—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—(P)
10 these are the things God has revealed(Q) to us by his Spirit.(R)
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts(S) except their own spirit(T) within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit(U) of the world,(V) but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom(W) but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[c] 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God(X) but considers them foolishness,(Y) and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit(Z) makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for,
But we have the mind of Christ.(AB)

Proclaiming Christ Crucified
2 And I, when I came to you, brothers,[a] (A)did not come proclaiming to you (B)the testimony[b] of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except (C)Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And (D)I was with you (E)in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of (F)the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men[c] but (G)in the power of God.
Wisdom from the Spirit
6 Yet among (H)the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not (I)a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, (J)who are doomed to pass away. 7 But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, (K)which God decreed before the ages for our glory. 8 None of (L)the rulers of this age understood this, for (M)if they had, they would not have crucified (N)the Lord of glory. 9 But, as it is written,
(O)“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has (P)prepared (Q)for those who love him”—
10 these things (R)God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even (S)the depths of God. 11 For who knows a person's thoughts (T)except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now (U)we have received not (V)the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this (W)in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, (X)interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.[d]
14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are (Y)folly to him, and (Z)he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The (AA)spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16 (AB)“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But (AC)we have the mind of Christ.
