1 Ako si Pablo ug ang akong kauban nga si Timoteo mga alagad ni Cristo Jesus. Nangumusta kami kaninyo diha sa Filipos, kamong mga katawhan sa Dios[a] nga anaa kang Cristo Jesus, uban usab sa mga nagadumala kaninyo ug sa ilang mga katabang sa buluhaton sa Dios.[b]
2 Hinaut nga madawat ninyo ang grasya ug kalinaw gikan sa Dios nga atong Amahan ug kang Ginoong Jesu-Cristo.
Ang Pag-ampo ni Pablo alang sa mga Taga-Filipos
3 Nagapasalamat ako sa Dios sa matag higayon nga maghandom ako kaninyo. 4 Malipayon ako matag ampo ko alang kaninyong tanan, 5 tungod kay kauban ko kamo sa pagpakaylap sa Maayong Balita gikan pa sa pagdawat ninyo sa akong gitudlo kaninyo hangtod karon. 6 Nasiguro ko nga ang maayong buhat nga gisugdan sa Dios diha kaninyo padayonon gayod niya hangtod sa adlaw nga mobalik si Cristo Jesus. 7 Angay lang nga ingon niini ang akong hunahuna ug pagbati alang kaninyong tanan tungod kay gihigugma ko gayod kamo. Nahimo ko kamong katabang sa buluhaton nga gihatag sa Dios kanako, bisan pa karon nga ania ako sa bilanggoan nga nagapamatuod ug molaban sa Maayong Balita batok sa mga nagasupak niini. 8 Makapamatuod ang Dios nga hilabihan ang akong kamingaw kaninyo; kay gihigugma ko gayod kamo sama sa paghigugma ni Cristo Jesus.
9 Nagaampo ako nga madugangan pa gayod ang inyong paghigugma sa usag usa inubanan sa hustong kaalam ug igong panabot, 10 aron makapili kamo kon unsa ang labing maayo ug aron mahimong hinlo ug walay ikasaway sa inyong kinabuhi hangtod sa pagbalik ni Cristo. 11 Hinaut nga pinaagi kang Jesu-Cristo mahimong matarong ang tanan ninyong buhaton aron madayeg ang Dios.
Si Cristo gayod ang Mahinungdanon
12 Mga igsoon ko kang Cristo, gusto kong masayran ninyo nga ang mga nahitabo kanako nakatabang gayod sa pagpakaylap sa Maayong Balita. 13 Kay nasayran na sa tanang mga guwardya sa palasyo ug sa uban pang mga tawo dinhi nga nabilanggo ako tungod kay ako sumusunod ni Cristo. 14 Ug tungod usab niining akong pagkabilanggo, misamot kalig-on ang pagtuo sa kadaghanan sa atong mga igsoon ngadto sa Ginoo. Busa misamot ang ilang kaisog sa pagsangyaw sa Maayong Balita. 15 Tinuod nga ang uban nagasangyaw lang bahin kang Cristo tungod kay nasina sila kanako ug gusto nila akong malabwan. Apan ang uban maayo ang ilang katuyoan. 16 Nagasangyaw sila tungod kay gihigugma nila ako ug gusto nila nga motabang kanako, kay nasayran nila nga gibutang ako dinhi aron sa pagpanalipod sa Maayong Balita. 17 Ang mga nasina kanako dili matinud-anon sa ilang pagwali bahin kang Cristo, kay ang ilang katuyoan alang lang sa ilang kaugalingon. Abi nila ug madugangan nila ang akong pag-antos dinhi sa bilanggoan pinaagi sa ilang gibuhat.
18 Apan wala kini sapayan kanako. Nalipay gihapon ako bisan unsa ang ilang katuyoan sa pagwali, maayo man o dili, basta giwali lang si Cristo. Magpadayon ang akong kalipay, 19 kay nasayod ako nga pinaagi sa inyong mga pag-ampo ug sa tabang sa Espiritu ni Jesu-Cristo makagawas ako dinhi. 20 Dako kaayo ang akong tinguha ug paglaom nga dili gayod ako maulawan, ug unta sama kaniadto, mag-padayon gihapon ako nga magmaisogon aron nga pinaagi sa akong kinabuhi, o sa akong kamatayon, madayeg si Cristo. 21-23 Alang kanako, ang akong kinabuhi alang gayod kang Cristo. Ug kon mamatay man ako, may kapuslanan gihapon, kay makig-uban na ako kaniya. Wala ako masayod kon asa sa duha ang akong pilion, tungod kay gusto ko na nga mouna kaninyo sa laing kinabuhi ug makig-uban kang Cristo, kay mao kini ang labing maayo alang kanako. Apan kon sa akong pagpabilin dinhi may mahimo pa ako, maayo usab kana. 24-25 Nasayran ko nga mahinungdanon alang kaninyo kon magpabilin akong buhi. Tungod niini, nasiguro ko nga dili pa ako mamatay aron matabangan ko kamong tanan, nga madugangan pa gayod ang inyong pagtuo ug kalipay, 26 ug aron kon makabalik na ako diha uban kaninyo, mosamot pa gayod kadako ang inyong hinungdan sa pagdayeg kang Cristo Jesus tungod kanako.
27 Makabisita man ako kaninyo o dili, ang mahinungdanon nga ang inyong paggawi pinasikad sa Maayong Balita mahitungod kang Cristo, aron madunggan ko nga lig-on kamong nagkahiusa sa inyong pagpakigbisog alang sa hustong pagtuo nga pinasikad sa Maayong Balita. 28 Ayaw gayod kamo kahadlok sa mga nagasupak kaninyo. Kay kini timailhan kanila nga sila silotan sa Dios ug kamo luwason. 29 Kay ang gihatag kaninyo dili lang pribilihiyo nga motuo kamo kang Cristo kondili pribilihiyo usab nga mag-antos kamo alang kaniya. 30 Karon kauban na kita nga nagaantos tungod sa Maayong Balita. Mao kini ang mga pag-antos nga inyong nakita nga akong naagian kaniadto, ug hangtod karon nadunggan ninyo nga nagaantos pa gihapon ako.

1 3 Having testified his godly and tender affection towards the Philippians, 12 he entreateth of himself and his bands: 22 And pricketh them forward by his own example, 27 and exhorteth them to unity, 28 and patience.
1 Paul [a]and Timothy the servants of JESUS CHRIST, to all the Saints in Christ Jesus, which are at Philippi, with the [b]Bishops, and Deacons:
2 Grace be with you, and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ:
3 I thank my God, having you in perfect memory,
4 (Always in all my prayers for all you, praying with gladness)
5 Because of the [c]fellowship which ye have in the Gospel, from the [d]first day unto now.
6 And I am persuaded of this same thing, that he that hath begun this good work in you, will perform it until the [e]day of Jesus Christ,
7 As it becometh me so to judge of you all, because I have you in remembrance, that both in my [f]bands, and in my defense, and confirmation of the Gospel you all were partakers of my [g]grace.
8 [h]For God is my record, how I long after you all from the very heart root in Jesus Christ.
9 [i]And this I pray that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge, and in all judgment,
10 That ye may allow those things which are best, that ye may be pure, and without offense, until the day of Christ,
11 Filled with the [j]fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ unto the glory and praise of God.
12 ¶ [k]I would ye understood, brethren, that the things which have come unto me, are turned rather to the furthering of the Gospel,
13 So that my bands [l]in Christ are famous throughout all the [m]judgment hall, and in all other places.
14 Insomuch that many of the brethren in the Lord are boldened through my bands, and dare more frankly speak the [n]Word.
15 Some preach Christ even through envy and strife, and some also of good will.
16 The one part preacheth Christ of contention, and not [o]purely, supposing to add more affliction to my bands.
17 But the others of love, knowing that I am set for the defense of the Gospel.
18 [p]What then: yet Christ is preached all manner ways, whether it be under a [q]pretence, or sincerely: and I therein joy: yea, and will joy.
19 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and by the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20 [r]As I fervently look for, and hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all confidence, as always, so now Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death.
21 For Christ is to me both in life and in death advantage.
22 [s]And whether to live in the [t]flesh were profitable for me, and what to choose I know not.
23 For I am distressed between both, desiring to be loosed and to be with Christ, which is best of all.
24 Nevertheless, to abide in the flesh, is more needful for you.
25 And this am I sure of, that I shall abide, and with you all continue, for your furtherance and joy of your faith,
26 That ye may more abundantly rejoice in JESUS CHRIST for me, by my coming to you again.
27 [u]Only let your conversation be as it becometh the Gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your matters, that ye [v]continue in one spirit, and in one mind, fighting together through the faith of the Gospel.
28 [w]And in nothing fear your adversaries, which is to them a token of perdition, and to you of salvation, and that of God.
29 [x]For unto you it is given for Christ, that not only ye should believe in him, but also suffer for his sake,
30 [y]Having the same fight, which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

- Philippians 1:1 The mark whereat he shooteth in this Epistle, is to confirm the Philippians by all means possible, not only not to faint, but also to go forward. And first of all, he commendeth their former doings, to exhort them to go forward: which thing he sayeth, he hopeth fully they will do, and that by the testimony of their lively charity, but in the mean season he referreth all things to the grace of God.

2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.(F)
Thanksgiving and Prayer
3 I thank my God every time I remember you.(G) 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray(H) with joy 5 because of your partnership(I) in the gospel from the first day(J) until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion(K) until the day of Christ Jesus.(L)
7 It is right(M) for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart(N) and, whether I am in chains(O) or defending(P) and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. 8 God can testify(Q) how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
9 And this is my prayer: that your love(R) may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,(S) 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,(T) 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness(U) that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
Paul’s Chains Advance the Gospel
12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters,[b] that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard[c] and to everyone else that I am in chains(V) for Christ. 14 And because of my chains,(W) most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.(X)
15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.(Y) 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition,(Z) not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.(AA) 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers(AB) and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ(AC) what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.[d](AD) 20 I eagerly expect(AE) and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage(AF) so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body,(AG) whether by life or by death.(AH) 21 For to me, to live is Christ(AI) and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart(AJ) and be with Christ,(AK) which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me.
Life Worthy of the Gospel
27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy(AL) of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm(AM) in the one Spirit,[e] striving together(AN) as one for the faith of the gospel 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. 29 For it has been granted to you(AO) on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer(AP) for him, 30 since you are going through the same struggle(AQ) you saw(AR) I had, and now hear(AS) that I still have.

22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.
25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;
26 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

Thankfulness and Prayer

Christ Is Preached

To Live Is Christ

Striving and Suffering for Christ
