Regocijaos en el Señor siempre

4 Así que, hermanos míos amados y deseados, gozo y corona mía, estad así firmes en el Señor, amados.

2 Ruego a Evodia y a Síntique, que sean de un mismo sentir en el Señor. 3 Asimismo te ruego también a ti, compañero fiel, que ayudes a estas que combatieron juntamente conmigo en el evangelio, con Clemente también y los demás colaboradores míos, cuyos nombres están en el libro de la vida.

4 Regocijaos en el Señor siempre. Otra vez digo: ¡Regocijaos! 5 Vuestra gentileza sea conocida de todos los hombres. El Señor está cerca. 6 Por nada estéis afanosos, sino sean conocidas vuestras peticiones delante de Dios en toda oración y ruego, con acción de gracias. 7 Y la paz de Dios, que sobrepasa todo entendimiento, guardará vuestros corazones y vuestros pensamientos en Cristo Jesús.

En esto pensad

8 Por lo demás, hermanos, todo lo que es verdadero, todo lo honesto, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo amable, todo lo que es de buen nombre; si hay virtud alguna, si algo digno de alabanza, en esto pensad. 9 Lo que aprendisteis y recibisteis y oísteis y visteis en mí, esto haced; y el Dios de paz estará con vosotros.

Dádivas de los filipenses

10 En gran manera me gocé en el Señor de que ya al fin habéis revivido vuestro cuidado de mí; de lo cual también estabais solícitos, pero os faltaba la oportunidad. 11 No lo digo porque tenga escasez, pues he aprendido a contentarme, cualquiera que sea mi situación. 12 Sé vivir humildemente, y sé tener abundancia; en todo y por todo estoy enseñado, así para estar saciado como para tener hambre, así para tener abundancia como para padecer necesidad. 13 Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece.

14 Sin embargo, bien hicisteis en participar conmigo en mi tribulación. 15 Y sabéis también vosotros, oh filipenses, que al principio de la predicación del evangelio, cuando partí de Macedonia, ninguna iglesia participó conmigo en razón de dar y recibir, sino vosotros solos; 16 pues aun a Tesalónica(A) me enviasteis una y otra vez para mis necesidades.(B) 17 No es que busque dádivas, sino que busco fruto que abunde en vuestra cuenta. 18 Pero todo lo he recibido, y tengo abundancia; estoy lleno, habiendo recibido de Epafrodito lo que enviasteis; olor fragante,(C) sacrificio acepto, agradable a Dios. 19 Mi Dios, pues, suplirá todo lo que os falta conforme a sus riquezas en gloria en Cristo Jesús. 20 Al Dios y Padre nuestro sea gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

How Christians should live

4 My dear Christian friends, I love you very much. I want very much to see you again. You make me very happy. You show that my work among you had good results. Please continue to live in a way that pleases the Lord. This is what I have taught you to do.

2 I say this to Euodia and to Syntyche: ‘You belong to the Lord, so please agree with each other. Stop arguing.’ 3 I ask you too, my true friend, please help these two women to agree together.[a] They have worked with me to tell people the good news. They have worked very hard to help me. They worked together with Clement, and with the other people who helped me in the work. All those workers' names are written in God's book of life.[b]

4 Always be happy because you belong to the Lord. I will say that again, ‘Be happy!’ 5 Be kind and patient in a way that everyone can see. Remember that the Lord is near. 6 Do not worry about anything. Instead, pray to God about everything. Ask him to help you with the things that you need. And thank him for his help. 7 If you do that, God will give you peace in your minds. That peace is so great that nobody can completely understand it. You will not worry or be afraid, because you belong to Christ Jesus.

8 Now my friends, I want to say this to you. Fill your minds with thoughts about good things. Think about things that are true, clean, right and lovely. Always think about things which people know are very good. 9 Remember what I have taught you. Remember the message that you heard from me. Remember what you saw when I lived among you. You also must do those same things. God is the one who gives us peace in our minds. He will be with you.

Paul thanks the believers at Philippi

10 I am very happy that you want to help me again. I praise the Lord for that. I know that you wanted to help me before. But you have not had a chance to do anything until now. 11 When I say that, it is not because I need anything. I have learned to be happy, whatever things may happen to me. 12 I know what it is like to need things. I also know what it is like to have more than enough. I have learned this secret. I know how to be happy whatever happens. I can be happy when I have enough food to eat, and also when I am hungry. I can be happy when I have plenty of things, and also when I have nothing. 13 I can do all these things because Christ makes me strong.

14 But certainly, you have been very kind to me. You have helped me now, when I am in trouble. 15 Also, you Christians in Philippi know that you already helped me earlier. That was the time when I started to tell people God's good news. When I left Macedonia, you were the only group of Christians who helped me. We were able to help one another, and no other group of Christians did that for me.[c] 16 Even when I was at Thessalonica, you helped me. More than once, you sent gifts to me because I needed things.[d]

17 It is not your gifts themselves that I want. But I want you to do good things so that God will bless you in return. 18 Epaphroditus has brought the gifts that you sent to me. I have received those gifts, so that I no longer need anything. You have sent me more than enough. Your gifts are like a sacrifice with a nice smell that you have offered to God. God accepts that kind of sacrifice. It makes him very happy. 19 My Lord God in heaven has plenty of good and valuable things. Because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will give to you everything that you need.

20 Our Father God is very great! It is right that everyone should praise him always and for ever! Amen. This is true.

Paul finishes his letter

21 Say ‘hello’ on my behalf to all of God's people there who belong to Christ Jesus. The believers who are here with me say ‘hello’ to you. 22 All God's people here say ‘hello’ to you. The Christians who live in the king's house say a special ‘hello’ to you.

23 We pray that the Lord Jesus Christ will continue to be kind to you, so that your spirits are strong.

  1. 4:3 Paul is speaking to someone who is his special friend. He does not say what his friend's name is. He may be a leader in the church at Philippi.
  2. 4:3 ‘God's book of life’ has the names of people who will live with God for ever.
  3. 4:15 Macedonia was the north part of the country called Greece now. Philippi was a city in Macedonia.
  4. 4:16 Thessalonica was also a city in Macedonia. Paul had taught the good news at Thessalonica too.

4 Bucuraţi-vă totdeauna în Domnul! Vă spun din nou: bucuraţi-vă! 5 Blândeţea voastră să fie cunoscută de toţi oamenii! Domnul este aproape. 6 Nu vă îngrijoraţi de nimic, ci, în orice lucru, prin rugăciune şi cerere, cu mulţumire, faceţi cunoscute cererile voastre înaintea lui Dumnezeu. 7 Iar pacea lui Dumnezeu, care depăşeşte orice înţelegere, vă va păzi inimile şi gândurile în Cristos Isus.

8 În cele din urmă, fraţilor, tot ce este adevărat, tot ce este nobil, tot ce este drept, tot ce este curat, tot ce este plăcut, tot ce este vrednic de admirat, orice faptă măreaţă, orice este vrednic de laudă, la acestea să vă gândiţi! 9 Ceea ce aţi învăţat, aţi primit, aţi auzit şi aţi văzut în mine, aceea să faceţi! Mulţumire pentru daruri

10 M-am bucurat mult în Domnul că acum, din nou, v-aţi gândit la mine. Într-adevăr, voi aţi fost preocupaţi de mine, însă n-aţi avut ocazia să arătaţi aceasta. 11 Nu din cauza unei nevoi vă spun aceasta, pentru că eu am învăţat să fiu mulţumit în orice împrejurare m-aş afla. 12 Ştiu ce înseamnă să fii sărac şi ştiu ce înseamnă să ai din belşug. Am învăţat secretul de a fi mulţumit în orice situaţie – fie sătul, fie flămând, fie în belşug, fie în nevoie. 13 Pot totul în Cristos, Care mă întăreşte. 14 Însă aţi făcut bine că aţi luat parte cu mine în necaz.

15 Voi ştiţi, filipenilor, că în primele zile ale predicării Evangheliei, când am plecat din Macedonia, nici o biserică n-a fost alături de mine în ce priveşte darea şi primirea, în afară de voi. 16 În Tesalonic mi-aţi trimis de mai multe ori ajutor pentru nevoile mele. 17 Nu că eu umblu după daruri, ci eu umblu după câştigul care este în folosul vostru. 18 Am primit de toate şi sunt în belșug. Sunt foarte mulţumit că am primit de la Epafrodit darurile pe care mi le-aţi trimis. Ele sunt o aromă plăcut mirositoare, o jertfă bine primită, plăcută lui Dumnezeu. 19 Dumnezeul meu va împlini toate nevoile voastre, potrivit cu bogăţia Lui slăvită, în Cristos Isus. 20 A Dumnezeului şi Tatălui nostru să fie slava, în vecii vecilor! Closing Appeal for Steadfastness and Unity

4 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for,(A) my joy and crown, stand firm(B) in the Lord in this way, dear friends!

2 I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind(C) in the Lord. 3 Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers,(D) whose names are in the book of life.(E)

Final Exhortations

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!(F) 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.(G) 6 Do not be anxious about anything,(H) but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.(I) 7 And the peace of God,(J) which transcends all understanding,(K) will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.(L) And the God of peace(M) will be with you.

Thanks for Their Gifts

10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me.(N) Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content(O) whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry,(P) whether living in plenty or in want.(Q) 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.(R)

14 Yet it was good of you to share(S) in my troubles. 15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days(T) of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia,(U) not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only;(V) 16 for even when I was in Thessalonica,(W) you sent me aid more than once when I was in need.(X) 17 Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account.(Y) 18 I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus(Z) the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant(AA) offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs(AB) according to the riches of his glory(AC) in Christ Jesus.

20 To our God and Father(AD) be glory for ever and ever. Amen.(AE)

Final Greetings

21 Greet all God’s people in Christ Jesus. The brothers and sisters who are with me(AF) send greetings. 22 All God’s people(AG) here send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar’s household.

23 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ(AH) be with your spirit.(AI) Amen.[a]

4 Therefore, my brothers, beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved.

2 I exhort Euodia, and I exhort Syntyche, to think the same way in the Lord. 3 Yes, I beg you also, true partner, help these women, for they labored with me in the Good News with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I will say, “Rejoice!” 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report: if there is any virtue and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 Do the things which you learned, received, heard, and saw in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

10 But I rejoice in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your thought for me; in which you did indeed take thought, but you lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I speak because of lack, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. 12 I know how to be humbled, and I also know how to abound. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. 14 However you did well that you shared in my affliction. 15 You yourselves also know, you Philippians, that in the beginning of the Good News, when I departed from Macedonia, no assembly shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you only. 16 For even in Thessalonica you sent once and again to my need. 17 Not that I seek for the gift, but I seek for the fruit that increases to your account. 18 But I have all things and abound. I am filled, having received from Epaphroditus the things that came from you, a sweet-smelling fragrance, an acceptable and well-pleasing sacrifice to God. 19 My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 20 Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever! Amen.

21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you. 22 All the saints greet you, especially those who are of Caesar’s household.

23 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
