¹⁴ shall we break your commandments again and ^(A)intermarry with the peoples who practice these abominations? Would you not be angry with us ^(B)until you consumed us, so that there should be no ^(C)remnant, nor any to escape?

⁸ Even ^(A)at Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, and the Lord was so angry with you that he was ready to destroy you.

^2 (A)For they have taken some of their daughters to be wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the ^(B)holy race^[a] has ^(C)mixed itself with the peoples of the lands. And in this faithlessness the hand of the officials and chief men has been foremost.”

^14 (A)Let me alone, that I may destroy them and ^(B)blot out their name from under heaven. And ^(C)I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.’

²⁰ For if, ^(A)after they have escaped the defilements of the world ^(B)through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, ^(C)the last state has become worse for them than the first. ²¹ For ^(D)it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from ^(E)the holy commandment delivered to them.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

6 What shall we say then? ^(A)Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! ^(A)Sin no more, ^(B)that nothing worse may happen to you.”

^2 (A)and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ^(B)you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done?

^45 (A)“Get away from the midst of this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.” ^(B)And they fell on their faces.

^21 (A)“Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them ^(B)in a moment.”
