Heads of Families Who Returned with Ezra

8 These are the heads of their fathers’ houses, and this is the genealogy of those who went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of King Artaxerxes:

^7 (A)Some of the children of Israel, the priests, ^(B)the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and ^(C)the Nethinim came up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

⁶² These sought their listing among those who were registered by genealogy, but they were not found; ^(A)therefore they were excluded from the priesthood as defiled.

⁵ Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and the Levites, with all whose spirits ^(A)God ^[a]had moved, arose to go up and build the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem.

¹² The total number of ^[a]chief officers of the mighty men of valor was two thousand six hundred.

³² And his brethren were two thousand seven hundred able men, heads of fathers’ houses, whom King David made officials over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God and the ^(A)affairs of the king.

³¹ These also cast lots just as their brothers the sons of Aaron did, in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and Levites. The chief fathers did just as their younger brethren.

³⁴ These heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites were heads throughout their generations. They dwelt at Jerusalem.
