²¹ Then the children of Israel who had returned from the captivity ate together with all who had separated themselves from the ^(A)filth^[a] of the nations of the land in order to seek the Lord God of Israel.

¹¹ which You commanded by Your servants the prophets, saying, ‘The land which you are entering to possess is an unclean land, with the ^(A)uncleanness of the peoples of the lands, with their abominations which have filled it from one end to another with their impurity.

The Corinthians’ Repentance

7 Therefore,^(A) having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

² Then ^(A)those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and ^(B)confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.

Intermarriage with Pagans

9 When these things were done, the leaders came to me, saying, “The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not ^(A)separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, ^(B)with respect to the abominations of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

^47 (A)All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. ⁴⁸ And ^(B)when a stranger ^[a]dwells with you and wants to keep the Passover to the Lord, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as a native of the land. For no uncircumcised person shall eat it. ^49 (C)One law shall be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you.”

¹⁷ Therefore

^25 (A)Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you ^(B)from all your filthiness and from all your idols.
