3 Then Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief fathers of Israel said unto them, It is not for you, but for us to build the house unto our God: [a]for we ourselves together will build it unto the Lord God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.
4 Wherefore the people of the land [b]discouraged the people of Judah, and troubled them in building.
5 And they [c]hired counselors against them, to hinder their devise all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

3 But Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the heads of the fathers’ houses of Israel said to them, (A)“You may do nothing with us to build a [a]house for our God; but we alone will build to the Lord God of Israel, as (B)King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.” 4 Then (C)the people of the land tried to discourage the people of Judah. They troubled them in building, 5 and hired counselors against them to frustrate their purpose all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of (D)Darius king of Persia.
