Here is a list of the people of the province who had been exiled, carried off to Bavel by N’vukhadnetzar king of Bavel, but who later returned from exile and went up to Yerushalayim and Y’hudah, each to his own city; they went with Z’rubavel, Yeshua, Nechemyah, S’rayah, Re‘elyah, Mordekhai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rechum and Ba‘anah.

59 The following went up from Tel-Melach, Tel-Harsha, K’ruv, Adan and Immer; but they could not state which fathers’ clan they or their children belonged to, [so it was not clear] whether they were from Isra’el:

60 descendants of D’layah,
descendants of Toviyah, and
descendants of N’koda652

61 and of the descendants of the cohanim:

descendants of Havayah,
descendants of Hakotz, and
descendants of Barzillai, who took a wife from the
daughters of Barzillai the Gil‘adi and was named after them.

62 These tried to locate their genealogical records, but they weren’t found. Therefore they were considered defiled and were not allowed to serve as cohanim. 63 The Tirshata told them not to eat any of the especially holy food until a cohen appeared who could consult the urim and tumim.

64 The entire assembly numbered 42,360 — 65 not including their male and female slaves, of whom there were 7,337. They also had 200 male and female singers.

66 Their horses numbered 736; their mules, 245; 67 their camels, 435; and their donkeys, 6,720.

68 Some of the heads of fathers’ clans, when they came to the house of Adonai in Yerushalayim, made voluntary offerings for rebuilding the house of God on its site. 69 According to their means they gave into the treasury for the work 61,000 gold darkmonim [about two-thirds of a ton], 5,000 manim of silver [just over three tons], and a hundred tunics for the cohanim.

70 So the cohanim, the L’vi’im, some of the people, the singers, the gatekeepers and the temple servants lived in their towns and all Isra’el in their towns.

The Exiles Return

(A)Now these were the people of the province who came up out of the captivity of those exiles (B)whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried captive to Babylonia. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town. They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, (C)Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah.

55 (L)The sons of Solomon's servants: the sons of Sotai, the sons of Hassophereth, the sons of Peruda, 56 the sons of Jaalah, the sons of Darkon, the sons of Giddel, 57 the sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth-hazzebaim, and the sons of Ami.

58 All the temple servants and the sons of Solomon's servants were 392.

59 The following were those who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, (M)though they could not prove their fathers' houses or their descent, whether they belonged to Israel: 60 the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, and the sons of Nekoda, 652. 61 Also, of the sons of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Hakkoz, and the sons of (N)Barzillai (who had taken a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called by their name). 62 These sought their registration among those enrolled in the genealogies, but they were not found there, and (O)so they were excluded from the priesthood as unclean. 63 The (P)governor told them that they were not (Q)to partake of the most holy food, until there should be a priest to consult (R)Urim and Thummim.

64 (S)The whole assembly together was 42,360, 65 besides their male and female servants, of whom there were 7,337, and they had 200 male and female (T)singers. 66 Their horses were 736, their mules were 245, 67 their camels were 435, and their donkeys were 6,720.

58 Tempelträlarna och Salomos tjänares barn utgjorde tillsammans tre hundra nittiotvå.

59 Och dessa voro de som drogo åstad från Tel-Mela, Tel-Harsa, Kerub, Addan och Immer, men som icke kunde uppgiva sina familjer och sin släkt och huruvida de voro av Israel:

60 Delajas barn, Tobias barn, Nekodas barn, sex hundra femtiotvå.

61 Och av prästernas barn: Habajas barn, Hackos' barn, Barsillais barn, hans som tog en av gileaditen Barsillais döttrar till hustru och blev uppkallad efter deras namn.

62 Dessa sökte efter sina släktregister, men kunde icke finna dem; därför blevo de såsom ovärdiga uteslutna från prästadömet.

63 Och ståthållaren tillsade dem att de icke skulle få äta av det högheliga, förrän en präst uppstode med urim och tummim.

64 Hela församlingen utgjorde sammanräknad fyrtiotvå tusen tre hundra sextio,

65 förutom deras tjänare och tjänarinnor, som voro sju tusen tre hundra trettiosju. Och till dem hörde två hundra sångare och sångerskor.

66 De hade sju hundra trettiosex hästar, två hundra fyrtiofem mulåsnor,

67 fyra hundra trettiofem kameler och sex tusen sju hundra tjugu åsnor.

68 Och somliga av huvudmännen för familjerna gåvo, när de kommo till HERRENS hus i Jerusalem, frivilliga gåvor till Guds hus, för att det åter skulle byggas upp på samma plats.

69 De gåvo, efter som var och en förmådde, till arbetskassan i guld sextioett tusen dariker och i silver fem tusen minor, så ock ett hundra prästerliga livklädnader.

70 Och prästerna, leviterna, en del av meniga folket, sångarna, dörrvaktarna och tempelträlarna bosatte sig i sina städer: hela Israel i sina städer.
