² They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, ^(A)Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah.

The number of the men of the people of Israel:

⁶ The sons of Pahath-moab, namely the sons of Jeshua and Joab, 2,812.

³⁶ The priests: the ^(A)sons of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, 973.

⁴⁰ The Levites: the sons of ^(A)Jeshua and Kadmiel, of the sons of Hodaviah, 74.

² Then arose Jeshua the son of Jozadak, with his fellow priests, and ^(A)Zerubbabel the son of ^(B)Shealtiel with his kinsmen, and they built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, ^(C)as it is written in the Law of Moses the ^(D)man of God.

Rebuilding the Temple

⁸ Now in the second year after their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, ^(A)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and ^(B)Jeshua the son of Jozadak made a beginning, together with the rest of their kinsmen, the priests and the Levites and all who had come to Jerusalem from the captivity. They ^(C)appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to ^(D)supervise the work of the house of the Lord. ⁹ And ^(E)Jeshua with his sons and his brothers, and Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together ^(F)supervised the workmen in the house of God, along with the ^(G)sons of Henadad and the Levites, their sons and brothers.

³ But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers' houses in Israel said to them, ^(A)“You have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God; but we alone will build to the Lord, the God of Israel, ^(B)as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.”

³³ On the fourth day, within the house of our God, the silver and the gold and the vessels were ^(A)weighed into the hands of ^(B)Meremoth the priest, son of Uriah, and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas, and with them were the Levites, ^(C)Jozabad the son of Jeshua and Noadiah the son of ^(D)Binnui.

Those Guilty of Intermarriage

¹⁸ Now there were found some of the sons of the priests who had married foreign women: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah, some of the sons of ^(A)Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers.

¹⁹ Next to him Ezer the son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section opposite the ascent to the armory at ^(A)the buttress.^[a]
