2 次に示すのは、ネブカデネザルによって捕らえられ、バビロンに移された人々の子孫の中で、エルサレムや他のユダの町々へ帰還した者の名簿です。
2 指導者――ゼルバベル（シェシュバツァル）、ヨシュア、ネヘミヤ、セラヤ、レエラヤ、モルデカイ、ビルシャン、ミスパル、ビグワイ、レフム、バアナ。

59 時を同じくして、ペルシヤのテル・メラフ、テル・ハルシャ、ケルブ、アダン、イメルなどからも、エルサレムに帰った人々がいました。ところが、系図をなくしてしまっていたので、彼らが生粋のイスラエル人かどうかは明らかではありませんでした。 60 その数は、デラヤ族、トビヤ族、ネコダ族など、総勢六五二名。
61 祭司の氏族のうち、ホバヤ氏族、コツ氏族、バルジライ氏族〔ギルアデ人バルジライの娘を妻に迎えたことから、この名で呼ばれた〕も帰還しましたが、 62-63 この人々も系図を紛失していたので、祭司職を差し止められました。それで、ウリムとトンミム（神意を伺う一種のくじ）で調べ、実際に祭司の子孫かどうかが判明するまでは、いけにえのうち祭司の食糧となる分も与えられませんでした。
64-65 こうして、総勢四万二、三六〇名がユダへ帰りました。このほか、男女の奴隷七、三三七名と、男女の聖歌隊員二〇〇名もいっしょでした。 66-67 また、馬七三六頭、らば二四五頭、らくだ四三五頭、ろば六、七二〇頭もいました。
68 指導者たちは神殿再建のため、率先してささげ物をささげました。 69 それぞれの力に応じてささげられた金品は、金六万一千ダリク（五一八キログラム）、銀五千ミナ（二、八五〇キログラム）、祭司の長服百着でした。
70 このようにして、祭司やレビ人をはじめ一部の民はエルサレムおよび周辺の村々に住みつき、歌い手、門衛、神殿奉仕者たちは、ほかの人々とともに故郷の町へと帰って行ったのです。

64 The whole company numbered 42,360, 65 besides their 7,337 male and female slaves; and they also had 200 male and female singers.(AC) 66 They had 736 horses,(AD) 245 mules, 67 435 camels and 6,720 donkeys.
68 When they arrived at the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families(AE) gave freewill offerings toward the rebuilding of the house of God on its site. 69 According to their ability they gave to the treasury for this work 61,000 darics[b] of gold, 5,000 minas[c] of silver and 100 priestly garments.
70 The priests, the Levites, the musicians, the gatekeepers and the temple servants settled in their own towns, along with some of the other people, and the rest of the Israelites settled in their towns.(AF)

祭壇の再建
3 1-2 第七の月（ユダヤ歴による。太陽暦では九月）になると、帰還者たちはめいめいの故郷から、エルサレムに集まって来ました。エホツァダクの子ヨシュアは、仲間の祭司やシェアルティエルの子ゼルバベル、およびその氏族の者とともに、神の人モーセの律法に記されているとおり焼き尽くすいけにえをささげるために、イスラエルの神の祭壇を築きました。 3 祭壇を元の位置にすえ、さっそく、朝ごと夕ごとに焼き尽くすいけにえをささげました。人々は周囲の国々からの攻撃を恐れていたからです。
4 彼らはモーセの律法どおり仮庵の祭りを守り、祭りの間は毎日、定められた焼き尽くすいけにえをささげました。 5 このほか、安息日、新月の祝い、種々の例祭のため、それぞれ定められた品々をささげました。また、人々の自発的なささげ物もささげられました。 6 祭司が主にいけにえをささげ始めたのは、第七の月の一日でした。まだ神殿の土台が築かれる前のことです。
神殿再建の開始
7 次いで彼らは、石工や大工を雇い、ツロやシドンからは杉材を買いつけ、食料品、ぶどう酒、オリーブ油などを代金にあてました。レバノン山から切り出された杉材は、クロス王の許可を得て、地中海沿岸を海路ヨッパまで運ばれました。
8 実際に神殿再建が開始されたのは、エルサレムに帰還した翌年の第二の月のことでした。すべての帰還者たちはゼルバベル、ヨシュア、およびその仲間の祭司やレビ人の指揮のもとで働き続けました。二十歳以上のレビ人は現場監督にあたり、 9 この大事業の総責任は、ヨシュア、カデミエル、ヘナダデはじめ、その子や親族が負うことになりました。みな、レビ人でした。
10 神殿の土台が完成した時、ダビデ王の定めた様式にのっとって、祭司は祭服を着てラッパを吹き鳴らし、アサフの子孫はシンバルを打ち鳴らして、主を賛美しました。 11 彼らは神をたたえ、感謝する歌を歌いました。「主はすばらしい。その愛と恵みは、とこしえまでもイスラエルに。」これを受けて、民はみなが大声で賛美し、土台の完成を喜びました。
12 しかし、ソロモン時代の壮麗な神殿を知っている祭司、レビ人、指導者など多くの年長者は、声を上げて泣きました。 13 歓喜とも悲嘆ともつかない叫び声が遠くまでとどろき渡りました。

Rebuilding the Altar
3 When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns,(A) the people assembled(B) together as one in Jerusalem. 2 Then Joshua(C) son of Jozadak(D) and his fellow priests and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel(E) and his associates began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, in accordance with what is written in the Law of Moses(F) the man of God. 3 Despite their fear(G) of the peoples around them, they built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the Lord, both the morning and evening sacrifices.(H) 4 Then in accordance with what is written, they celebrated the Festival of Tabernacles(I) with the required number of burnt offerings prescribed for each day. 5 After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings, the New Moon(J) sacrifices and the sacrifices for all the appointed sacred festivals of the Lord,(K) as well as those brought as freewill offerings to the Lord. 6 On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord, though the foundation of the Lord’s temple had not yet been laid.
Rebuilding the Temple
7 Then they gave money to the masons and carpenters,(L) and gave food and drink and olive oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so that they would bring cedar logs(M) by sea from Lebanon(N) to Joppa, as authorized by Cyrus(O) king of Persia.
8 In the second month(P) of the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel(Q) son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak and the rest of the people (the priests and the Levites and all who had returned from the captivity to Jerusalem) began the work. They appointed Levites twenty(R) years old and older to supervise the building of the house of the Lord. 9 Joshua(S) and his sons and brothers and Kadmiel and his sons (descendants of Hodaviah[a]) and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers—all Levites—joined together in supervising those working on the house of God.
10 When the builders laid(T) the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets,(U) and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise(V) the Lord, as prescribed by David(W) king of Israel.(X) 11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord:
“He is good;
his love toward Israel endures forever.”(Y)
And all the people gave a great shout(Z) of praise to the Lord, because the foundation(AA) of the house of the Lord was laid. 12 But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple,(AB) wept(AC) aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. 13 No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy(AD) from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.

8 その後しばらくして、イエスはガリラヤの町や村を回り、神の福音を伝え始められました。十二人の弟子も同行しました。 2 イエスに悪霊を追い出してもらったり、病気を治してもらったりした女たちもいっしょでした。この中には、七つの悪霊を追い出してもらったマグダラのマリヤや、 3 ヘロデ王の執事クーザの妻ヨハンナ、スザンナをはじめ、自分の財をもって、イエスや弟子たちの世話をする大ぜいの女性がいました。
4 ある日、話を聞こうと、大ぜいの群衆が町々村々から押しかけたので、イエスはこんなたとえ話をなさいました。 5 「農夫が、種まきをしようと畑に出かけました。種をまいているうちに、ある種は道ばたに落ちて、踏みつけられ、そのうち鳥が来て食べてしまいました。 6 土の浅い石地に落ちた種もありました。それは芽を出したのですが、水分が足りないので、すぐ枯れてしまいました。 7 いばらの中に落ちた種もありましたが、いばらがいっしょに生え出て、結局、成長できませんでした。 8 しかし、中には良い土壌に落ちた種もありました。それはぐんぐん育ち、百倍もの実を結びました。」イエスは話しながら、「聞く耳のある人はよく聞きなさい」と、みんなの注意をうながされました。
9 「そのたとえはどういう意味ですか。」弟子たちに質問されて、 10 イエスはお答えになりました。「あなたがたには神の国の奥深い真理を理解することが許されていますが、群衆はそうではありません。だから、たとえで話すのです。彼らは見たり聞いたりしても、少しも理解しようとしません。 11 さて、このたとえの意味を説明しましょう。種とは神の教えのことです。 12 ある種が落ちた道ばたとは、神のことばを聞いても、受け入れない頑固な心を表します。やがて悪魔が来て、それを持ち去り、信じて救われるのをじゃまするのです。 13 次に、土の浅い石地とは、喜んで教えは聞くものの、ほんとうの意味で心に根を張らない状態のことです。教えられたことはいちいちもっともだと納得し、しばらくの間は信じているのですが、迫害の嵐がやってくると、すぐにぐらついてしまうのです。 14 いばらの中の種とは、聞いて信じても、その後、いろいろな心配事や金銭欲、また人生のさまざまな重荷や快楽などに、信仰を妨げられてしまう人のことです。これでは、せっかく教えを聞いても、実を結びません。 15 良い土壌とは、素直で正直な心の人を表します。こういう人は、神のことばを聞くと、それをしっかり守り、実を結びます。」
16 また、次のようなたとえも話されました。「ランプをつけてから、すっぽりおおいをかけ、光をさえぎる人がいるでしょうか。ランプはあたりを照らすように台の上に置くものです。 17 これは、いつの日か、すべてのことが明るみに出されることを示しています。 18 だから、神のことばをどのように聞いたらよいか、よく注意しなさい。持っている者はさらにたくさん与えられ、持っていない者は、持っているつもりの物までも取り上げられてしまうからです。」
19 ある時、イエスの母と弟たちがイエスに会いに来ました。ところが、イエスが教えておられた家は黒山の人だかりで、とても中へは入れません。 20 だれかが、「先生。お母様と弟さんがたがお見えですよ」と知らせると、 21 イエスはみんなを見回し、「わたしの母、わたしの兄弟たちとは、神のことばを聞いて、それを守る人たちのことです」とお答えになりました。
イエス、嵐を静める
22 そのころのことです。ある日、イエスは弟子たちと舟に乗り込み、「さあ、湖の向こう岸に渡ろう」と言われました。 23 途中、イエスが横になり、眠っておられると、風が出てきました。風はだんだん強くなります。恐ろしい嵐になり、舟は水をかぶって、今にも沈みそうになりました。もう一刻の猶予もありません。 24 弟子たちはあわててイエスを揺り起こし、「先生、先生。舟が沈みそうです！」と叫びました。そこで、イエスはゆっくり起き上がると、「静まれ！」と嵐に命じました。すると、たちまち風も波もおさまり、何事もなかったかのように静かになりました。 25 イエスはおっしゃいました。「ああ、あなたがたの信仰はどこにあるのですか。」弟子たちは驚くやら恐ろしいやらで、「なんてすごいお方だろう。風や波までが言うことを聞くとは」とささやき合いました。
26 こうして一行は、無事、ガリラヤの対岸にあるゲラサ人の地方に着きました。 27 彼らが舟から上がると、この町に住む男が一人、イエスに会いに来ました。長年、悪霊につかれ、家もなく、裸のまま墓場をねぐらにしている男でした。 28 男はイエスを見るやいなや、恐ろしい叫び声をあげて、その場に倒れました。「おれをどうしようというんだ！ いと高き神の子イエスよ。お願いだから苦しめないでくれ！」 29 こう叫んだのは、イエスが悪霊に、出て行けとお命じになったからです。今までは、悪霊が何度も男に取りつくので、鎖でしっかり縛りつけておいたのですが、どんなに太い鎖でも、男はいつもそれを引きちぎり、荒野へ逃げてしまうのでした。 30 「あなたの名前は？」とイエスが尋ねると、悪霊は、「レギオン（ローマ軍の一軍団で多数を意味する）だ」と答えました。男には何千という悪霊が入り込んでいたからです。 31 悪霊どもは、底なしの穴に行かせることだけはしないでほしいと、必死に願いました。 32 ちょうど近くの山の中腹で、豚の群れがえさをあさっていました。そこで悪霊どもは、その豚の中に入らせてくれと頼みました。イエスがお許しになると、 33 悪霊どもはすぐさまその男から出て、豚の中に入りました。すると、豚の群れはいっせいにがけを駆け降り、湖に飛び込んで、おぼれ死んでしまいました。
34 びっくりした豚飼いたちは近くの町や村に逃げ込み、この出来事を言いふらしました。 35 まもなく、大ぜいの者が、自分の目で確かめようと集まって来ました。と、どうでしょう。今まで悪霊につかれていた男が、きちんと服を着て、すっかり正気に戻って、イエスの前に座っているではありませんか。みんなは、あっけにとられてしまいました。 36 初めから一部始終を目撃していた人たちが、事細かにその時の状況を説明しました。 37 それを聞くと、人々はますます恐ろしくなり、イエスに、ここから立ちのいて、もうこれ以上かかわり合わないでほしいと頼み始めました。
それで、イエスは舟に戻り、また向こう岸へ帰って行かれました。 38 悪霊の去った男がお伴を願い出ましたが、イエスはお許しになりませんでした。 39 「家族のところへ帰りなさい。神がどんなにすばらしいことをしてくださったかを、話してあげるのです。」こう言われて、男は町中の人に、イエスのすばらしい奇跡を話して回りました。
娘が生き返る
40 ガリラヤに帰ると、イエスは心からの歓迎を受けました。人々はイエスを待ちわびていたのです。 41 その時、ユダヤの会堂管理人で、ヤイロという名の人が来て、イエスの足もとにひれ伏し、家に来ていただきたいと願いました。 42 十二歳になる一人娘が、危篤状態だったからです。熱心な頼みに、イエスは人垣をかき分けるようにして、ヤイロの家に向かわれました。
43-44 けれども途中で、一人の女が、いやされたい一心で、うしろからイエスにさわりました。十二年もの間、出血の止まらない病気に悩まされ、どんなことをしても治らなかったのです。ところが、イエスの着物のふさにさわったとたん、出血が止まりました。 45 イエスは、「わたしにさわったのはだれですか」とお尋ねになりました。みなが自分ではないと答えたので、ペテロは言いました。「先生。わかるわけがありません。回りにはこんなにたくさんの人がひしめき合っているんですよ。」 46 「いや、だれかがさわりました。力が出て行くのを感じたのですから。」 47 女は、イエスがすべてをご存じなので、わなわなと震えだしました。とても隠しきれないと知って、イエスの前にひれ伏し、さわった訳とすっかりよくなったこととを、包み隠さず打ち明けました。 48 イエスは女に、「あなたの信仰があなたを治したのです。さあ、安心してお帰りなさい」と言われました。
49 まだイエスが話し終えないうちに、ヤイロの家から使いの者が駆けつけ、主人にこう言いました。「だんな様！ お嬢様は、たった今お亡くなりになりました。先生にわざわざおいでいただいても、手遅れでございます。」 50 これを聞いて、イエスはヤイロに言われました。「恐れないで、わたしを信じていなさい。娘さんは必ずよくなりますから。」
51 家に着くと、イエスはペテロ、ヨハネ、ヤコブの三人の弟子と、両親のほかはだれも、中へ入らないように言われました。 52 家の中では、みな泣き悲しんでいました。「もう泣くのはやめなさい。娘さんは死んだのではありません。ただ眠っているだけです。」 53 娘が死んだことをよく知っていた人々は、このイエスのことばをあざ笑いました。 54 しかしイエスが手を取り、「さあ、起きなさい」と呼びかけると、 55 その瞬間、娘は生き返り、すぐに起き上がったのです。イエスは何か食べさせるようにと言いつけられました。 56 あまりのことに、両親が驚いていると、イエスはこのことをだれにも話さないように堅く口止めなさいました。

The Parable of the Sower(A)
8 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.(B) The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene)(C) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s(D) household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(E)
9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you,(F) but to others I speak in parables, so that,
11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.(H) 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.(I) 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches(J) and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
A Lamp on a Stand
16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.(K) 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.(L) 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”(M)
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(N)
19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers(O) are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”(P)
Jesus Calms the Storm(Q)(R)
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master,(S) we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked(T) the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.(U) 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(V)(W)
26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes,[b] which is across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(X) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(Y) I beg you, don’t torture me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.(Z)
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake(AA) and was drowned.
34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, 35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet,(AB) dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed(AC) man had been cured. 37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them,(AD) because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(AE)
40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader,(AF) came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(AG) for twelve years,[c] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak,(AH) and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master,(AI) the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me;(AJ) I know that power has gone out from me.”(AK)
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(AL) Go in peace.”(AM)
49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(AN) “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James,(AO) and the child’s father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning(AP) for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”(AQ)
53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!”(AR) 55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.(AS)
