⁸ Cyrus king of Persia brought these out in the charge of ^(A)Mithredath the treasurer, who counted them out to ^(B)Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah.

^14 (A)And the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple that was in Jerusalem and brought into the temple of Babylon, these Cyrus the king took out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered to one whose name was ^(B)Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;

⁶ Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to ^(A)Zerubbabel: ^(B)Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. ⁷ Who are you, ^(C)O great mountain? Before ^(D)Zerubbabel ^(E)you shall become a plain. And he shall bring forward ^(F)the top stone amid shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’”

⁸ Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ^9 (G)“The hands of ^(H)Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also ^(I)complete it. ^(J)Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. ^10 (K)For whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice, and shall see ^(L)the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.

^(M)“These seven ^(N)are the eyes of the Lord, ^(O)which range through the whole earth.”

² “Speak now to ^(A)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to ^(B)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, and say, ^3 (C)‘Who is left among you who saw this house ^(D)in its former glory? How do you see it now? ^(E)Is it not as nothing in your eyes? ⁴ Yet now ^(F)be strong, O ^(G)Zerubbabel, declares the Lord. ^(H)Be strong, O ^(I)Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. ^(J)Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the Lord. ^(K)Work, for ^(L)I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts,

¹⁴ And ^(A)the Lord stirred up the spirit of ^(B)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of ^(C)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all ^(D)the remnant of the people. And they came and ^(E)worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,

The Command to Rebuild the Temple

1 ^(A)In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet to ^(B)Zerubbabel the son of ^(C)Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to ^(D)Joshua the son of ^(E)Jehozadak, the high priest:

¹⁶ Then this ^(A)Sheshbazzar came and ^(B)laid the foundations of the house of God that is in Jerusalem, and from that time until now it has been in building, and it is ^(C)not yet finished.’

¹¹ all the vessels of gold and of silver were 5,400. All these did Sheshbazzar bring up, when the exiles were brought up from Babylonia to Jerusalem.
