Rebuilding the Altar
3 (X)When the seventh month came, and the children of Israel were in the towns, the people gathered as one man to Jerusalem. 2 Then arose Jeshua the son of Jozadak, with his fellow priests, and (Y)Zerubbabel the son of (Z)Shealtiel with his kinsmen, and they built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, (AA)as it is written in the Law of Moses the (AB)man of God. 3 They set the altar in its place, (AC)for fear was on them because of the peoples of the lands, and (AD)they offered burnt offerings on it to the Lord, burnt offerings morning and evening. 4 (AE)And they kept the Feast of Booths, (AF)as it is written, (AG)and offered the daily burnt offerings by number according to the rule, as each day required, 5 and after that the regular burnt (AH)offerings, the offerings at the new moon (AI)and at all the appointed feasts of the Lord, and the offerings of everyone who made a freewill offering to the Lord. 6 From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord. But the foundation of the temple of the Lord was not yet laid. 7 So they gave money to the masons and the carpenters, (AJ)and food, drink, and oil to the Sidonians and the Tyrians (AK)to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, (AL)according to the grant that they had from Cyrus king of Persia.
Rebuilding the Temple
8 Now in the second year after their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, (AM)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and (AN)Jeshua the son of Jozadak made a beginning, together with the rest of their kinsmen, the priests and the Levites and all who had come to Jerusalem from the captivity. They (AO)appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to (AP)supervise the work of the house of the Lord. 9 And (AQ)Jeshua with his sons and his brothers, and Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together (AR)supervised the workmen in the house of God, along with the (AS)sons of Henadad and the Levites, their sons and brothers.
10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments came forward with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, (AT)according to the directions of David king of Israel. 11 And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord,
(AU)“For he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever toward Israel.”
And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. 12 But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers' houses, (AV)old men who had seen the first house, wept with a loud voice when they saw the foundation of this house being laid, though many shouted aloud for joy, 13 so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shout from the sound of the people's weeping, for the people shouted with a great shout, and the sound was heard far away.

70 The priests, the Levites, the musicians, the gatekeepers and the temple servants settled in their own towns, along with some of the other people, and the rest of the Israelites settled in their towns.(AF)
Rebuilding the Altar
3 When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns,(AG) the people assembled(AH) together as one in Jerusalem. 2 Then Joshua(AI) son of Jozadak(AJ) and his fellow priests and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel(AK) and his associates began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, in accordance with what is written in the Law of Moses(AL) the man of God. 3 Despite their fear(AM) of the peoples around them, they built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the Lord, both the morning and evening sacrifices.(AN) 4 Then in accordance with what is written, they celebrated the Festival of Tabernacles(AO) with the required number of burnt offerings prescribed for each day. 5 After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings, the New Moon(AP) sacrifices and the sacrifices for all the appointed sacred festivals of the Lord,(AQ) as well as those brought as freewill offerings to the Lord. 6 On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord, though the foundation of the Lord’s temple had not yet been laid.
Rebuilding the Temple
7 Then they gave money to the masons and carpenters,(AR) and gave food and drink and olive oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so that they would bring cedar logs(AS) by sea from Lebanon(AT) to Joppa, as authorized by Cyrus(AU) king of Persia.
8 In the second month(AV) of the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel(AW) son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak and the rest of the people (the priests and the Levites and all who had returned from the captivity to Jerusalem) began the work. They appointed Levites twenty(AX) years old and older to supervise the building of the house of the Lord. 9 Joshua(AY) and his sons and brothers and Kadmiel and his sons (descendants of Hodaviah[d]) and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers—all Levites—joined together in supervising those working on the house of God.
10 When the builders laid(AZ) the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets,(BA) and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise(BB) the Lord, as prescribed by David(BC) king of Israel.(BD) 11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord:
“He is good;
his love toward Israel endures forever.”(BE)
And all the people gave a great shout(BF) of praise to the Lord, because the foundation(BG) of the house of the Lord was laid. 12 But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple,(BH) wept(BI) aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy. 13 No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy(BJ) from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.
